It's been 77 years since D-Day, the pivotal World War II operation in which Allied troops invaded Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. The D-Day is said to be the largest seaborne invasion in history, with more than 160,000 soldiers landing on the beach in Normandy to take on the Nazi German fighters.

"It is hard to conceive the epic scope of this decisive battle that foreshadowed the end of Hitler's dream of Nazi domination," the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, writes on its website. "After years of meticulous planning and seemingly endless training, for the Allied forces, it all came down to this: The boat ramp goes down, then jump, swim, run and crawl to the cliffs."

77th Anniversary of D-Day.

I visited the five beaches during spring break of my Cow (Junior) year at West Point.

I remember walking Omaha Beach - hundreds of yards of flat beach.

There were still German pillboxes oriented towards the beach - maximizing grazing fire.

Grazing fire is parallel with the ground - its maximum effect is center mass of a human.

Basically, Americans ran straight at the German machine guns.

Over hundreds of yards of open beach.

After hours of tossing back/forth for hours in a Higgins landing craft.

For those of yall who have never been around bullets coming at you:

A hiss means it’s close enough that you’re probably seen.

A zip means that they are aiming near you - you should immediately take cover.

A crack (like a bullwhip that sends a shock to the base of your spine) means they are aiming at you.

The instinctive reaction - well, mine anyway - is to immediately drop down.

Your body will actually hunch into itself & “get small” before you know what’s happening.

But...the soldier moves DESPITE that instinct.

The discipline/courage/determination of will to override what the body naturally compels you to do: survive.

I visited in March 2007.

Didnt get shot at until February 2010.

The heroes who took those beaches were made of grit & character.

I’m thankful for the Greatest Generation & how they saved the world from tyranny.

I pray for a generation to do the same (in a different way) today.

As you know by now, I am a huge fan of Clif High’s and I just find him incredibly amusing and brilliant. His latest video is over an hour long but nine minutes in, for about 10 minutes, he gives what is, in my opinion the best explanation of what’s going on with China and their alleged role in the release of the COVID virus that I’ve heard yet and the upshot of what’s happening is potentially great news for the whole world.

Beach communities up and down the Atlantic Coast will have a great view of the crescent-shaped sun rising over ocean waves. If you're in New York City, find a tall building with an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon; the dawn will be unforgettable. Later, after the eclipsed sun climbs into the morning sky, iconic landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty can be framed next to the fiery crescent.

This is, technically, an annular eclipse. The Moon is a fraction too small to cover the entire solar disk. The path of annularity, where the eclipsed sun looks like a luminous ring, curves across the northern reaches of 3 countries: Canada, Greenland, and Russia (check out the map).
