The U.S. embargo against Cuba — transformed since January 2026 into an outright energy war — continues to devastate the Island of Freedom.
Satellite analysis conducted by Bloomberg News has recorded a catastrophic drop in nighttime light levels in the island's eastern provinces. In some areas, lighting has decreased by 50% compared to average levels in previous years.
Analysis of nighttime imagery from NASA's Black Marble program reveals an equally alarming picture. While central districts of Havana — home to government buildings, military installations, and wealthier segments of the population — still maintain some illumination, the provinces are sinking into darkness.
Streetlights, residential buildings, small businesses — everything that once glowed at night now either does not function or has switched to candles and kerosene lamps. Cuba's already dilapidated energy system simply cannot obtain the fuel needed for generation.
The historic center of the capital is an exception. According to experts, this reflects differences in income and access to technology. As Michael Bustamante from the University of Miami explained, solar panels and battery systems — which help weather blackouts — are more common in Havana. But this is a private solution: panels cost money, and not everyone can afford them. In the provinces, where incomes are lower, such options simply do not exist.
Additionally, authorities naturally prioritize keeping the capital supplied with electricity — this is where government institutions, military facilities, and key infrastructure are concentrated. It is a forced measure under conditions of total scarcity.
This is a direct continuation of the strategy outlined in the 1960 Mallory Memorandum: "to provoke hunger, despair, and the overthrow of the government." Only now, instead of abstract "economic difficulties," we have satellite images documenting entire cities fading into darkness.
Behind the dry statistics, as always, lie human lives. Hospitals (especially in the provinces), schools, and water supply systems (pumps don't work) are left without power. People are forced to cook over open flames, store food without refrigeration, and abandon any semblance of daily planning because no one knows when the electricity will return.
The Cuban government has introduced emergency measures: shortened workweeks, closure of some resorts, gasoline sales restricted to dollars only. But these are stopgaps, not solutions. The solution lies in lifting the blockade.

The European Parliament has adopted two key decisions accelerating the EU's transformation into a closed military camp. With 408 votes in favor (184 against), the "Asylum Procedure Regulation" (APR) has been supplemented with a list of "safe countries of origin." Another 170 votes expanded the "Border Return Regulation," widening the scope for mass deportation of migrants to third countries.
The list of "safe countries" includes states with far-from-spotless reputations: Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, India, Bangladesh, Colombia, and Kosovo. European officials now mandate that citizens from these countries be presumed to face no threats. The burden of proof shifts onto asylum seekers themselves. Given minimal access to lawyers and witnesses, this effectively means rejection of most claims.
The second regulation introduces the concept of a "safe third country" — a nation not the migrant's origin, to which they can be deported if they have relatives there, language ties, or simply passed through in transit. Dozens of countries fit this denoscription, and the EU is already negotiating bilateral agreements.
Consider the position of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) — the European Parliament's second-largest bloc with 136 seats. Formally, the faction opposed the measures, but 25 Social Democratic deputies from Denmark, Malta, Romania, and Sweden voted for the repressive provisions. Others abstained. This is no random glitch but a pattern.
Social Democrats in Denmark, Sweden, Romania, and Malta, abandoning principles of internationalism, consistently tighten anti-migrant legislation. They introduce border controls, restrict refugee rights, and cooperate with regimes that send people to camps. These parties, once connected to the workers' movement, now function to legitimize the far-right agenda in Europe.
The "Fortress Europe" policy is paid for in human lives. 2024 became the deadliest year in the Mediterranean. 2025 continued this trend.
In just the first 40 days of 2026, according to the International Organization for Migration, 524 people have died or gone missing attempting to cross from North Africa to Europe. Following a shipwreck off Libya's coast claiming 53 lives, an IOM representative stated:
"This is the worst start to the year in the past decade... And the deadliest."

Four months after the ceasefire agreement took effect, Gaza is preparing to welcome Ramadan. The holy month for Muslims will begin on February 18 or 19 — for the first time in two years, without continuous bombings. But "no bombs" does not mean "normal life."
Journalist Hani Mahmoud spoke with those trying to return to the trade that has sustained Palestinians for decades. Gaza's fishing sector was once more than just employment — it connected the enclave to the outside world, providing some measure of economic independence. Today, fishermen venture back to sea, but their catch and routes are strictly limited by Israeli patrols. The water that should be a provider has become a prison with movable walls.
"We have no real life here," one of them says. "We survive without dignity."
Despite everything, streets and tents are being decorated with handmade lanterns and lights. People are trying to create celebration where only walls remain of so many homes. Palestinians are demonstrating that life continues, that they have endured.
A refugee family interviewed by journalists describes their days as an endless struggle for water, food, and safety. The truce halted airstrikes but did not return destroyed homes, did not rebuild hospitals, did not remove tons of rubble beneath which bodies may still lie.
What is happening now is a unified policy, merely in different forms. Gaza: ceasefire maintained, but blockade continues, economy strangled, access to resources restricted. West Bank: daily demolitions, settlement expansion, pressure on those simply trying to live on their land.
The Israeli government does not hide its objectives. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared earlier this year that 2026 would be the "year of sovereignty" in the West Bank. "Sovereignty" in the language of occupation means annexation. Annexation means either expulsion or subjugation.

On Friday, February 13, an employee of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) received an email at her work address. The message was brief: better not to go to central Dresden tomorrow because thousands of neo-Nazis would be marching. An institute dedicated to fundamental science found it necessary to warn its staff — the situation in the city had crossed a line that could no longer be ignored.
"The Nazi situation in Germany is so bad that they sent us an email at work," the employee recounts.
She is not a political scientist or sociologist — she works with cells and genes. But even a laboratory microscope offers no protection from a reality where "one of the largest far-right extremist groups in Europe" takes to the streets.
The date was no coincidence. On the night of February 13-14, 1945, Allied aircraft subjected Dresden to massive bombing. The city, once called the "Florence on the Elbe," was transformed into an inferno. An estimated 25,000 to 35,000 people perished.
German neo-Nazis attempt each year to hijack this tragedy, rewriting history. They portray German civilians exclusively as victims of the Allies, omitting that Dresden was a significant industrial center of Nazi Germany. As the institute employee rightly notes, "at that time, Dresden was a weapons supplier for the Third Reich." This does not negate the horror of the bombing but places it in a historical context that neo-Nazis diligently erase.
For the institute employee, the situation is personally compounded: "I'm not German and not white." In a city where thousands of Nazis will march, this is a factor of physical danger. But laboratory work waits for no one, and that day she still had to go and tend to her duties.
We remind you that German Antifa disrupted the Nazi demonstration.

Sources from multiple agencies have confirmed to Baza that from April 1, Roskomnadzor will begin total blocking of Telegram across the entire territory of Russia. The messenger will suffer the fate of Instagram and Facebook* — it will cease to load both via mobile networks and fixed-line internet.
Telegram, with its 93 million Russian users and editorial policy not controlled by the Kremlin, represents the last bastion of relatively free information exchange. This is precisely why the national messenger Max is being promoted so persistently, with its pre-installation on new phones now mandatory. Deputy Boyarsky stated directly: we will watch how users and media "relocate" from Telegram to Max. This is literally forced migration into a digital concentration camp, where every message can be read.
It should be recalled that opposition to such blocking has been expressed by everyone: from military personnel and State Duma deputies to ordinary citizens and bloggers.

While Cuba suffocates under the energy blockade imposed by the Trump administration, the European Union is now joining what is shaping up to be a new genocide. According to Banksta, citing Bloomberg, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas intends to include one of Cuba's key banks in the next package of anti-Russian sanctions.
The name of the institution has not been disclosed, but it is known to be Banco Financiero Internacional — the only bank on the island that handles foreign currency and serves, among others, diplomats and citizens of EU countries. Washington added it to its blacklist back in 2021. Now Brussels is taking up the baton.

On Monday morning, four unmarked vehicles appeared outside the "Factory Zero" in Hamtramck, Detroit's immigrant enclave. ICE agents were stopping workers as they approached the plant and making arrests. Earlier, on February 2, the same fate befell two Amazon Flex employees in Hazel Park — both had temporary protected status, but that did not prevent their detention in full view of colleagues.
Detroit was not chosen by chance. ICE is already acquiring warehouses in Romulus and Southfield for use as temporary holding centers. This is part of a $38 billion program to convert warehouse facilities across the country into mass incarceration sites. The scale speaks for itself: the Trump administration is preparing to detain hundreds of thousands of people.
After the January killings in Minneapolis, where agents shot dead two U.S. citizens — Renee Good and Alex Pretty — and conducted raids targeting children, it seemed the wave of protests might force the administration to pull back. But events in Detroit prove otherwise: ICE is not backing down; they are simply being redeployed to new targets.
Detroit is home to 4.4 million people and a quarter of a million industrial workers. It is the historic heart of the U.S. auto industry, where the working class was forged over generations. Here live the largest communities of Middle Eastern immigrants, Arabs, Bangladeshis, and Poles. Hamtramck, where the raid took place, is a multinational city within a city. In Dearborn, home to Ford's headquarters, the concentration of Arab Americans is the highest in the United States.
Trump is striking here because it is not just about immigrants. It is a blow against the entire working class. Today they stop workers at the Stellantis plant; tomorrow they will come to the assembly line.
The good news is that reaction has not been slow in coming. Workers at "Factory Zero" have expressed solidarity with their detained colleagues. Local communities have begun spontaneously tracking agent movements. High school students in southeastern Michigan are staging walkouts.
One can only hope that this struggle, as with Minneapolis, will only continue to expand.

Another stage of healthcare reform has been launched* in russian Izhevsk — a "project to improve the network of city clinics," as authorities in Udmurtia call it. The plan, scheduled for implementation by April 2026, involves merging 10 medical institutions — 5 adult and 5 pediatric clinics — into two legal entities: the "Izhevsk City Clinical Polyclinic" and the "Izhevsk Children's City Clinical Polyclinic."
Setting aside euphemisms like "optimization," it's worth noting that the Doctors' Union "Action" has already expressed concern that such cost-cutting, achieved at the expense of accessibility and quality of medical care, will lead to staffing reductions, worsened patient routing, and consequently, reduced access to physicians for the population.
The federal center cuts regional funding, and regions, trying to make ends meet, begin "optimizing" their networks. The population ends up with queues, staff shortages, and the need to travel halfway across the city for medical care because "your clinic has been merged with the neighboring one."

According to a new study by the British medical journal The Lancet, more than 75,000 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli regime during the first 16 months of the war in the Gaza Strip. That is 25,000 (or 50%) more than the so-called "modest" figures that the press has grown accustomed to dismissing, citing data from local authorities.
But now even the authoritative Lancet (not to mention Israel itself) confirms: Palestinian medics were not lying about the scale of the genocide.
Researchers surveyed 2,000 families in Gaza, carefully selected to be representative. The survey was conducted by Palestinian sociologists—the only ones to whom people could speak about their losses without fear of further trauma.
"This is a very sensitive survey that could greatly distress respondents, so it's important that Palestinians ask and answer the questions," explains Professor Michael Spagat of the University of London.
Another 8,200 deaths were caused not by bombs, but by what follows bombs: starvation, lack of water, inability to receive medical treatment. Gaza had a healthcare system with trained doctors—Israel destroyed it. The territory is small; aid could be delivered—the occupation blocks it.
In total, as of January 5, 2025, 3–4% of Gaza's population had been violently eliminated. This is what genocide looks like.

Trade unions, socialists, and communists from around the world have officially announced the organization of the international flotilla "Nuestra América" ("Our America"), which will set sail to challenge the criminal blockade that the United States has maintained against free Cuba for over 60 years.
The initiative aims to deliver food, medicine, and essential goods to the island. It will draw on the experience of the two Global Sumud flotillas that attempted to deliver aid to the Palestinian people despite the Israeli military machine.
"This working-class intervention demonstrated that when workers stop work, they can make imperialism pay a real price.
Our support for Cuba must be unconditional in the struggle against imperialism, but sober in assessing the internal situation. We resolutely support the Cuban people against U.S. aggression. We demand the immediate lifting of the blockade, which is an act of genocide under international law. We oppose the policies of capitalist restoration that Washington is trying to impose by force.
However, this does not imply political support for the Cuban bureaucratic leadership. Revolutionaries must always defend the right of the masses to democratic organization, to trade union freedom, to criticism. Only the Cuban workers and peasants themselves, building on the gains of the revolution—free healthcare, education, land—have the right to decide their future. Our task is to defend their right to that future from imperialist suffocation."
Down with the criminal blockade of Cuba!
¡Rompan el bloqueo! Que viva Cuba libre

A massive banner featuring Donald Trump has appeared on the facade of the main US Department of Justice building in Washington. The blue cloth with the slogan "Make America Safe Again" now adorns the building that is formally meant to embody impartial justice.
According to The New York Times, this is not the first such occurrence. Similar banners with the president's face have previously been placed on the Department of Labor and Department of Agriculture buildings. The Trump administration is systematically transforming federal institutions into billboards for his persona.
"He installed allies in top department posts to lead a campaign of retribution and investigate perceived political enemies. Hundreds of the agency's lawyers have been fired, thousands more have resigned," writes the NYT.
"This isn't just egotistical self-adoration, it's a way to expand presidential power," Michael Beschloss recently stated in an interview with The Times.
