A recent article by MIT technology review mentions that "Energy-hungry data centers are quietly moving into cities" — into the heart of major population centers.

That in itself is troublesome enough, but what is even worse these data centers are largely powered by coal. In fact, according to the article, data centers account for about 1.5% of all electricity use, and 2/3rds of that is coal-generated.
