TikTok is basically the cigarette of the attention world.
You don’t even have to smoke it yourself just be near someone puffing out a cloud of random trends, sounds, and
“Did you know…?” facts, and boom… your brain inhales it.
Next thing you know, you’re like:
"Wait, I don’t use TikTok… so why do I know this dance, this meme sound, and this oddly specific shark fact??"
That’s passive scrolling where you’re not even the one scrolling, but your mind still gets hit with quick bursts of dopamine-packed content. It feels harmless, but here’s the catch: your brain starts remembering fragments without context. You know a thing… but not why you know it, and definitely not how accurate it is.
It’s like mental junk food tasty in the moment, but if you snack on it too much (even secondhand), it leaves less room for deep thinking and intentional learning.
It’s fun in the moment, but over time it steals space from deeper, intentional thinking. So yeah… sometimes protecting your brain means not just putting your phone down, but also stepping out of the secondhand content cloud. 🧠
