South Rus were like Russians/Ukrainians, North Rus had Finnic affinities. Germanic ancestry was limited.

people have always questioned whether the Rus were reflective of Scandinavian norms. The funeral scene in Ibn Faldlan’s Risala is undeniably supported by Scandinavian archaeological finds. The tattoos could be a slavic thing.

Worth pointing out though that pure Irish people were norse gaels with a Scandinavian material culture in ireland and that there were pure blooded British vikings living in Sweden so evidently Norse culture transmitted without blood, at times.

It was called wolfsmaand (wolves month) in Middle Dutch; this is often when wolves leave their natal pack to find a mate, a time of renewal all around. ᛉ

I went for a night walk in the woods then came home to blot at the hearth
