I just starting using this tool to schedule meetings, its open-source and self-hosted - and there is plenty more to learn about the organization behind it. Some damn good software tho

Heard from another user today that the Above Agency website is getting flagged by Bitdefender for 'loading intrusive software'. The intrusive software it's referring to is Ackee, an open-source private by design analytics tool.
We run this software on our own servers, using it to measure basic page visits (and that's literally all its used for). It collects no user information, and because of that, it technically doesn't need to be mentioned. Still, because we value transparency and our visitors privacy, it is outlined in our privacy policy.
From the policy:
Usage Data: This site uses an open-source privacy-focused analytics solution (Ackee). We run the solution on our own servers, and it does not gather IP addresses or other personally identifiable information. We use it to get general statistics on page views.
Ackee works by anonymizing the IP/user-agent client side and creating a hash, this hash is what is used to count it as a unique visit - no personal information is gathered.
This is far more private than traditional analytics software which will log IPs, user agents, and use cookies to uniquely identify a visitor and their browsing patterns. Many analytics solutions (like Google Analytics) use a third party service and will share this information with them.
Its quite ironic and hypocritical that they have labeled Ackee 'instrusive software'.
Normally, I really wouldn't care but the issue is that Bitdefender doesn't apply their rules consistently. They side with and protect big tech analytics solutions. If they really want to stand against intrusive software, I suggest they blacklist every site using Google Analytics as well as Ackee.
I've reported the false positive to Bitdefender, let's see what happens.
Closing thoughts:
1. If you manage a website, avoid using cloud based analytics tools or Google Analytics.
2. Don't expect Big Tech security tools like BitDefender to be fair, you should be using a self-managed noscript blocker like UMatrix.

YouTube Just Announced It’ll Be Hiding Dislike Counts on Videos Across Its Site Starting Today
📡@G3News: YouTube has just announced that it’ll be hiding public dislike counts on videos across its site, starting today (Nov. 10).
The company says the change is to keep smaller creators from being targeted by dislike attacks or harassment, and to promote “respectful interactions between viewers and creators.”
The dislike button will still be there, but it’ll be for private feedback, rather than public shaming.

@takebackourtech
#TakeBackOurTech is propagating off the internet into the real world. Our partners in the UK are holding a workshop with some revolutionary practices. Attendees can get Linux installed, mitigate EMF, and buy degoogled phones. The technologists running the event get to help others while make their event sustainable.
How cool. Are you a technologist that wants to do this in your town?
Let us know.

Finally finished recording the XMPP video. One thing about demoing a technology is that you always learn new things. For instance I found out you could send end to end encrypted video messages to each other in the Conversations XMPP client on Android.

A friend sent this over this video on Van Eck Phreaking the other day, a great reminder how all electromagnetic signatures can be collected from quite a distance away of a target machine and recreated to get the information off the screen.

This video took place 36 years ago! A modern demonstration of Tempest could lead to a much higher fidelity screen capture at a longer ranges across smaller devices.
There are things you could do to mitigate 'TEMPEST' based attacks such as using a faraday cage (or paint) to ground the room, using a hardened OS like Tinfoil Hat Linux that generates additional noise by encrypting random data to hide your activity.
Don't worry though, an attack like this is highly unlikely on your everyday person - just think this phenomena is cool.

↖️ Two Big Uploads This Week & A New Mini-Series ↗️

Good morning my nodes,
This is a huge week for #TBOT, we'll be releasing the following content:
Tomorrow 11/16 - XMPP: A 20 Year Old Messaging Protocol That Is More Private and Decentralized Than Telegram - full length article and video
Friday 11/19 - above.phone Launch Video & Tech Demo
That means first you're going to learn how to communicate securely and privately on your computer or phone - without needing cell service! (through WiFi networks)
Next, the above.phone launch video will show you an experience that isn't just a privacy & security friendly, but superior in functionality and usability to modern day phones.
But wait - there's more: I'm working on a new type of content mini-series. I went back and looked at my work and found it was always super long in length. This is cool if you want to go in-depth, but my goal is to get people doing - and doing now.
#TBOT: Bytes will be videos under 2 minutes in length showing real world technology strategies. By the end of each video you will absolutely improve your technical abilities using new tools.
If you haven't already - sign up for our mailing list to be the first to see #TBOT: Bytes - I have made it easier to signup on our site.
https://takebackourtech.org
And as always, share this post with your friends and family. #TBOT will always be free, forever. We do it because we believe that technology can help save the world. Let's explore that together.

Hey folks,
I have neglected the macOS users wanting to switch to Linux simply because I didn't have a mac, but wanted to provide y'all a resource you can use to switch to Linux - here it is:
—
https://linuxnewbieguide.org/how-to-install-linux-on-a-macintosh-computer/
Take note of this section:
Unfortunately, from 2018, Apple decided to add a new ‘secure boot’ T2 chip into their mac hardware. This basically means that you can’t use anything other than macOS on Apple hardware, however it is possible to switch off secure boot. See the image to the right to show you how to find out if your machine has the T2 chip.
To find out if you have the T2 chip:
1. press and hold the Option key while choosing Apple () menu > System Information.
2. In the sidebar, select either Controller or iBridge, depending on the version of macOS in use.
3. If you see “Apple T2 chip” on the right, your Mac has the Apple T2 Security Chip.
If you have said T2 chip, then you’ll need to disable the secure boot option in order to install Linux on your mac. Note that I haven’t tested this (I don’t have a new mac), so please let me know in the comments if it works for you.

Are any macOS users down to make the switch to a better operating system today? Shout me if ya do.
