What Search Engine Should I Use: You Don't Really Have To Choose
Many people are now talking about moving search engines now that DuckDuckGo is censoring Russian sites.
The obvious choice (for me) is a meta-search engine like Searx. This is because you can configure it to search whatever search engine you want. Here's a screenshot of the Above Privacy Suite Searx Instance being configured. Your chosen search engine other options all get saved locally!
There are a bunch of public Searx instances available as well:
https://searx.space/
And lastly, there's a browser extension that'll redirect searches to a randomized Searx instance (makes it harder to tie you to one instance):

Reprogram Your Destiny: Tech Strategy for Parallel Systems - Ramiro Romani (The Greater Reset 3: Integration)
On January 29, 2022, Ramiro Romani spoke at The Greater Reset 3: Integration on Day 4: Take Back Our Tech.
Ramiro Romani is a technologist, activist, educator, and entrepreneur who dropped his corporate career to work on meaningful social movements. He is a core member of the Freedom Cell Network, and co-producer of The Greater Reset. He’s helped grow both of these movements to tens and thousands of people while protecting the privacy of their users. Since then he has began educating and assisting others through his own projects. #TakeBackOurTech is an educational initiative that releases free content on how individuals can increase their privacy and security by using friendly technologies. He’s also launched his own company, Above Agency which recently released Above Phone – a complete privacy phone solution that combines secure hardware, open-source operating systems, and cutting-edge privacy services.

Finally - after half-dozen attempts, clean sweep/wipe, install/reinstall, I got Linux Mint running on the Lenovo laptop. It''s a thin & light model so will be using that on the road.
I got the HP workhorse laptop working 2 weeks earlier, and it will stay on the desktop

Working with USBs In The Field

Hey fam! Long time no see, I've been on-site at a construction project for the past week and will be for the next 3 weeks. What are we building?
A hemp house! 🏡
I'm there to record the entire process from start to finish which will eventually be released as a course. I'm using a DSLR camera and capturing plenty of footage, leading up to 40GBs of data a day.
I needed to use USBs to share the footage with my team in the field, not all of whom were using Linux!
Here are some lessons that were refreshed for me when working with USBs:
- Many USBs use a FAT32 filesystem by default, which works across all OSs, but cannot store files larger than 4 GB. (good luck copying large video files)
- There is no file system that covers all OS platforms while still having large file sizes (chart), but the closest would be NTFS, which Windows & Linux can read natively, and macOS can read with use of with ntfs-3g
- You can use GParted to format a drive's partition to a new file system, allowing you to have a cross-compatible USB.
- Lastly, it became painful to copy over files to USB due to the slow write speeds, it was a good reminder that USBs will not even come close to having the write speeds of external HDDs or SSDs.
I hope you use these lessons to setup your external storage before going out into the field, so you can be ready to exchange energy in the form of data!

Hey 🐝 devs! Beechat Gateway test network is up and live!
Beechat Gateway will allow your radio messages to reach other continents over Internet connected anonymous Gateways that take your radio signal and broadcast it over Kademlia.
To install:
Head on over to the Gateway Repo (https://github.com/BeechatNetworkSystemsLtd/BeechatGateway). Download the repo as a .zip file.
The install.sh file in the main folder will install Kademlia and Lokinet. (Tested on Ubuntu and Debian)
To run a Gateway node:
Make sure Lokinet is up and running. Then, navigate to /support_node and run node.py within your terminal.

mr.penguin: The exFAT file system is supported out of the box in any distribution with a 5.4 or newer kernel which included Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Linux Mint 20, Trisquel 10, Arch, Manjaro, and other rolling release distributions, but also Fedora 32+, among many other distributions and releases. Most distributions should basically have support out of the box at this point.

Thanks for all the work you do on the tech end, everyone has an important role. I'm not a techie, but have been able to really transform by moving to above phone, linux, and get off google services all in just a few months with help of you, your team, and #TBOT website. It's allowing me to focus on spreading my passions in non tech things like teaching different mindfullness and meditation practices to others and learning more about plant identification, foraging, permaculture, and food. Love, Brian.

I know you're very busy, but hoping you will do me a solid and get these pinned for me today if you run any IPFS nodes. Going live later today with store and products. T H A N K Y O U S I R !
Ok, I have got the final release images ready, uploaded and pinned on IPFS. Please pin them as soon as you can. I will be updating the websites next and announcing later today. I was hoping to have a day prior to announce to get maximum pins on as many sites as I could, but that would require announcing tomorrow and I'm already 2 days past when I wanted to get this done.

Nigeria Ties All Sim Cards to National ID System
Nigerians whose SIM cards are not linked to their National Identity Number (NIN), a mandatory digital ID system, won’t be able to make phone calls, starting this week. The partial block is a tone down from the previous threat of a total block.
The National Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) released a joint statement saying they were not going to postpone the deadline again. Initially, the deadline was December 31, 2020; it has been postponed ten times since then, with the latest postponed deadline being March 31, 2022.
“Outgoing calls will subsequently be barred for telephone lines that have not complied with the NIN-SIM linkage Policy from the 4th of April, 2022. Subscribers of such lines are hereby advised to link their SIMs to their NINs before the Telcos can lift the restriction on their lines.
“Affected individuals are hereby advised to register for their NINs at designated centers and thereafter link the NINs to their SIMs through the channels provided by NIMC and the Telcos, including the NIMC mobile App.”
