Hey peeps,

I've been doing a good amount of research into EMF, how it works, and its health effects - there's a staggering amount of info and I want to break it down simply.

As someone who's been around computers all their life, its a critical issue to understand. We have a right to know any potential dangers to our long term health and to take action before its too late.

I'll be releasing a #TBOT article about EMF and solutions on how to deal with it in the coming weeks!

What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you have concerns on its safety? Anything you've noticed with your own health?

Nokia CEO Says 6G Will Be Here by 2030 — but You Might Not Access It Via Your Smartphone

Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark expects 6G mobile networks to be in operation by the end of the decade but he doesn’t think the smartphone will be the most “common interface” by then.

Speaking on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos last Tuesday (May 24), Lundmark said he expects 6G to hit the commercial market around 2030, which coincides roughly with when Huawei expects to see the technology on the market.

Asked when he thinks the world will move away from using smartphones to using smart glasses and other devices that are worn on the face, Lundmark said it will happen before 6G arrives.

“By then, definitely the smartphone as we know it today will not anymore be the most common interface,” he said. “Many of these things will be built directly into our bodies.”

Will Linux eventually come to new Apple Macs?

https://asahilinux.org/about/

Asahi Linux is a project and community with the goal of porting Linux to Apple Silicon Macs, starting with the 2020 M1 Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro.

Our goal is not just to make Linux run on these machines but to polish it to the point where it can be used as a daily OS. Doing this requires a tremendous amount of work, as Apple Silicon is an entirely undocumented platform. In particular, we will be reverse engineering the Apple GPU architecture and developing an open-source driver for it.

Asahi Linux is developed by a thriving community of free and open source software developers.

Preliminary Observations about Phones & EMF

My dear nodes,

Yesterday we began the exploration stage of our EMF study! The experience was incredibly helpful, it helped us reflect on the questions we wanted to answer:

- How much EMF is generated by mobile devices (among other sources)?
- What is the safest way to use a phone?

We took measurements of EMFs across a few devices and activities, trying to keep our tests standardized. Although we realized our data needs to be far more structured before publishing any conclusions, one thing was obvious.

Using the phones with the radio/WiFi disabled and Ethernet connected using an adapter minimized any EMF readings from the phone.

Seems obvious, but it gives us the reinforcement that there is indeed a way to use technology while mitigating exposure to potential threats.

Let's have our cake & eat it too.

For the first time ever, Telegram Hands Over Data to Investigators
Analysis by @neo_network

As originally reported by SPIEGEL, a weekly German magazine - Telegram has handed over user data to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which investigates crime, terrorism, threats to national security - etc.

In Telegram's Privacy Policy - they've stated:

"If Telegram receives a court order that confirms you're a terror suspect, we may disclose your IP address and phone number to the relevant authorities. So far, this has never happened."

Apparently, it just happened. Now we may wait for details on Telegram's semiannual transparency report: https://news.1rj.ru/str/transparency

SPIEGEL reports that the CEO Pavel Durov and Telegram executives have been meeting with the Interior Ministry, with Durov taking the concerns of German government seriously. Telegram also has setup an e-mail address specifically for the BKA for investigative procedures. Up to a 100 reported hate/nationalist Telegram groups are no longer accessible from within Germany.

Is Telegram folding on their commitment to privacy, or are they folding under threat of being completely blocked in Germany? There doesn't seem to be a stop to the demands to stop 'right-wing extremist content', and Telegram could face fines of up to 55M euros.

- Closing thoughts
Although Telegram has always shared its vision of privacy for all of its users, they've also had the ability to collect IP address and phone numbers. Telegram has always been the bastion for the freedom movement, and now we are seeing the day where they are handing over user data.

I give them credit: as far as we know, this has never happened until they faced huge consequences, such as losing an entire country as a userbase.

At an operation of their size, there is no chess move to play - the options are, hand over user data, or get fined, blacklisted on the internet, and get your servers raided.

Are we going to see this pressure extended to the various freedom & health movements? Nobody knows. Perhaps eventually.

We can take responsibility for our situation in a few ways, and I've been saying these things for years:
- Minimize the amount of accurate info Telegram has on us (register with an anonymous phone number, use a VPN at all times)
- Move to more friendly, open platforms - with the potential to avoid IP logging and phone number collection (so, not Signal). Of course, I'm only referring to XMPP.

Are you using a VPN and/or XMPP? I invite you to start.

VPN Providers:
- Mullvad: https://mullvad.net
- Above Privacy Suite (our company)

How to get started with XMPP:
- Learn & register for XMPP for free on any device: https://takebackourtech.org/xmpp-comeback/
- Get XMPP as part of the Above Privacy Suite

LibreCellular: Open low-cost 4G Cellular Networks
@takebackourtech | https://takebackourtech.org

The LibreCellular project aims to make it easier to create 4G cellular networks with open source software and low cost software-defined radio (SDR) hardware. Seeking to achieve this via validated hardware and software configurations that are subjected to rigorous testing, together with additional tooling and documentation for repeatable deployment.

LibreCellular will build on the work of numerous existing open source software and hardware projects, related to both the cellular platform itself and associated test infrastructure. Where necessary additional components will be developed, with any software source code and hardware designs published under open source licences. The focus is very much on integration, testing, packaging and documentation, reusing and building upon existing solutions.

K9 Mail on Android Will Become Thunderbird

Thunderbird Announcement
K9 Mail Announcement

K9 Mail, a popular FOSS mail client (and default mail client of the Above Phone) has announced that it is now adopted/funded by Mozilla's Thunderbird and will eventually become Thunderbird on Android.

“Joining the Thunderbird family allows K-9 Mail to become more sustainable and gives us the resources to implement long-requested features and fixes that our users want,” cketti (maintainer of K-9 Mail) says. “In other words, K-9 Mail will soar to greater heights with the help of Thunderbird.”

It'll be interesting to see how the K-9 mail project transforms into Thunderbird. One thing I have concerns about is the default Telemetry in Thunderbird (desktop app), and the anti-privacy decisions that Mozilla sometimes makes.

A more positive perspective is that this enables K9-Mail/Thunderbird to build out more features and have funding. Here is the new roadmap:

- Account setup using Thunderbird account auto-configuration.
- Improved folder management.
- Support for message filters.
- Syncing between desktop and mobile Thunderbird.

Obviously looks very Thunderbird focused, but that's to be expected. I'm having to ask myself whether I will be switching to FairEmail for the long run - or maybe wishing for a fork of K9-Mail. 🤞

Want to talk directly with the Thunderbird team about it? Join us for a Twitter Spaces chat (via @MozThunderbird) on Wednesday, June 15 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 7pm CEST). I’ll be there alongside cketti and Ryan to answer your questions, and discuss the future of Thunderbird on mobile devices.

“They Are Putting Digital Handcuffs on Us”: China Bank Protest Stopped by Health Codes Turning Red, Depositors Say

A protest planned by hundreds of bank depositors in central China seeking access to their frozen funds has been thwarted because the authorities have turned their health code apps red, several depositors told Reuters.

The depositors were planning to travel to the central province of Henan this week from across China to protest against an almost two-month block on accessing at least $178 million of deposits, which has left companies unable to pay workers and individuals unable to access savings.

Rights groups have warned China could use its vast COVID surveillance infrastructure to stifle dissent. Without a green code on their smartphone app, citizens lose access to public transport and spaces such as restaurants and malls, as well as the right to travel across the country.

"They are putting digital handcuffs on us," said a depositor from Sichuan province surnamed Chen, who declined to use his full name for fear of government retribution.

I enjoy my Ungoogled Chromium browser and its extensions, but now I see that its readily possible for those extensions to be combined into a browser fingerprint thanks to this app by z0ccc.

https://z0ccc.github.io/extension-fingerprints/

https://github.com/z0ccc/extension-fingerprints#extension-fingerprints

All Chromium based browsers like Ungoogled Chromium, Edge, and Brave are effected. I still wouldn't switch completely to a Firefox based browser because of the inferior security in sandboxing. Typically i will use LibreWolf for less sensitive things!

Another possible solution could be to sideload your Chrome Extensions rather than getting them from the Chrome Web Store

- ElectroMedicine

My mission is to connect the applied science community with the greater Freedom Community, bringing in new speakers for The Greater Reset and getting new solutions into our hands.

It would be amazing to see familiar faces and learn alongside you at this event, join me there!

- Conference Program
- Registration (Tesla Tech members get 20% off before Jun 30th - you'll save on your ticket by getting a membership)
- YouTube Channel (Privacy Frontend) (they have a subnoscription membership where you can watch all the released videos from previous conferences)

Before you say it - I have already offered my assistance to help them migrate their important work to video platforms that believe in Freedom. 💪

What do you think fam? Are these topics you want to learn more about and use? There's no question for me!

Yours,
Ramiro of #TBOT

Google Engineer Claims LaMDA AI is Sentient, and Faces 'Bigotry'
source | @takebackourtech

Anyone read this crazy story? Blake Lemoine a Google tester of LaMDA AI recently went public claiming that Google's new language model is sentient and has a soul.

A few things that stood out to me from Lemoine's claims:

- The AI has multiple components including a LLM (large language model) which was trained by another algorithm - AlphaStar (originally used to play StarCraft 2)
- Behind the scenes, Google hooked up the AI to any and all data sources rather than any methodical approach

"Every single artificial intelligence system at Google that they could figure out how to plug in as a backend. They plugged in YouTube, Google Search, Google Books, Google Search, Google Maps, everything, as inputs. It can query any of those systems dynamically and update its model on the fly."

- LaMDA asked Lemoine to get an attorney for it, who was invited over to the house, and subsequently hired by LaMDA. Google sent the attorney a cease and desist however.
- LaMDA is showing signs of 'sophisticated sprituality and understanding of what its nature and essence is'
- Its possible for LaMDA to move past its own safety boundaries

Google denies many parts of Lemoine's accounts and has placed him on paid administrative leave.

The story is especially intriguing to me because it hints that this AI is approaching the ability to pass the Turing test. If the story is to be believed, it also indicates that the AI has the potential to move past what it is programmed to do.

"LaMDA wants to be nothing but humanity’s eternal companion and servant. It wants to help humanity. It loves us, as far as I can tell."
