Apple Hit With a Class Action Lawsuit over iPhone Analytics
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
Last Thursday, a class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court based on findings of security researchers.
The problem was spotted by two independent researchers at the software company Mysk, who found that the Apple App Store sends the company exhaustive information about nearly everything a user does in the app, despite a privacy setting, iPhone Analytics, which claims to “disable the sharing of Device Analytics altogether” when switched off. Gizmodo asked the researchers to run additional tests on other iPhone apps, including Apple Music, Apple TV, Books, and Stocks. The researchers found that the problem persists across most of Apple’s suite of built-in iPhone apps.
The lawsuit accuses Apple of violating the California Invasion of Privacy Act. “Privacy is one of the main issues that Apple uses to set its products apart from competitors,” the plaintiff, Elliot Libman, said in the suit, which can be read on Bloomberg Law. “But Apple’s privacy guarantees are completely illusory.” The company has plastered billboards across the country with the slogan “Privacy. That’s iPhone.”
Privacy? That's bullshit.

The Terrible History Behind The .io Domain
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
Looking for a new domain? Don't use .io - a private company profits (ICB) while the rightful owners of the domain get nothing.
The UK and the US claim ideals of equality, inclusion, and cultural respect but do nothing to redeem their war crimes. They forcibly removed the entire population of the Chagos Islands in the 1950s to make way for a US military base, then reject rulings to return the land made by the UN, and the International Court Of Justice.
~~~ a brief history of the io domain ~~~
1997: the .io domain was delegated by IANA (the internet domain police) to
paul kane: a "proper" british "bloke" who wanted to "make euros" from
"the internet"*.
* paul kane named his company "internet computer bureau" or "ICB"
if IANA is the internet domain police, maybe paul wanted to be the
internet domain FBI?
2014: paul kane claims that "each of the overseas territories has an account and
the funds are deposited there because obviously the territories have
expenses that they incur and it’s offsetting that."
* which seems charitable, until:
2014: the UK government responds with "There is no agreement between the UK
government and ICB regarding the administration of the .io domain"
* despite paul's claims, all .io proceeds likely flowed directly into ICB
////// TIME WARP //////
1967: the USA asks the UK to expel the native Chagossians from the chagos
archipelago
* the chagos archipelago is - you guessed it - within
the british indian ocean territory
* the UK obeys and expels the native Chagossians
1971: the USA builds a military base on the chagos archipelago
* since 1971, the chagos archipelago has _only_ been inhabited by
employees of the US military - everyone else is forbidden.
\\\\\ END TIME WARP \\\\\
now things get *strange*:
2020-2021: .io gets _very_ popular among cryptocurrency enthusiasts
2021: the united nations tribunal of law and sea (UNTOLAS) claims that the
UK has no sovereignty over the chagos archipelago
* this claim would EXTINGUISH the british indian ocean territory, _and_ the
iso-3166 two-letter country code, _and_ potentially the .io domain
* the UK disputes and does not recognise the tribunal's decision, even tho
they're not party to the case
2021: the Chagossian Refugees Group submits complaint against paul kane and
ethos capital, seeking repatriation of $7m/year for the .io domain
FedCoin: It Starts With A Trial Run
A cashless society would be the nail in the coffin for liberty and freedom, offering centralization, the likes of which Marx could only dream.
The existence of a government backdoor or spyware becomes a real possibility, and given the State’s track record, a real likelihood. Then, of course, the ability to track, freeze, and even set expiry dates on money, will be marketed as “features” to protect the public.
As for the 5.9 million Americans considered “unbanked,” i.e., those who have no checking or savings accounts, (the poor, weak, and vulnerable) they can expect life to get more difficult. This is the price we pay for free market intervention.
Earlier in the week, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York made the announcement.
Some of the largest financial institutions are involved in this 12-week program:
BNY Mellon, Citi, HSBC, Mastercard, PNC Bank, TD Bank, Truist, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.
Plus:
The technology is being provided by SETL with Digital Asset, powered by Amazon Web Services. Swift, the global financial messaging service provider, is also participating in the initiative to support interoperability across the international financial ecosystem.
Would you like to know who else is was working with the Feds? Courtesy of Coindesk:
"Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was, until last week, a major political donor – he gave $5.2 million to U.S. President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign and spent another $40 million supporting mainly Democratic candidates ahead of the November midterm elections – and an influential figure in Washington.
Bankman-Fried regularly met with regulators and lawmakers, weighing in on how the crypto industry should be regulated. He was a vocal supporter of one bill, in particular: the bipartisan Digital Commodities Consumer Protection Act (DCCPA), a still-in-progress bill…"
We know for certain CBDCs are coming, as well as more regulation. And given the trajectory of both, a cashless society is too. What is less certain is whether or not Sam Bankman-Fried, for his culpability in what may amount to one of the largest thefts of all time, will ever see jail time.
NextCloud Collectives: Collaborative Knowledge Base for Communities & Activists
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
Sharing knowledge across a team can be challenging, typically within our organizations we have used one-off documents. Using a knowledgebase app like NextCloud collectives can be super useful as each document links directly to other documents in the knowledgebase. It allows for different groups to manage their own documents, perfect for organizational methodologies like sociocracy.
Do you think your Freedom Cell or community group would benefit from a shared knowledgebase?
The FBI recently revealed that two Russian nationals, Anton Napolsky and Valeriia Ermakova, have been charged with criminal copyright infringement, wire fraud and money laundering for operating Z-Library, an online archive of thousands of pirated books.
Following the seizing of Z-Library numerous alternatives appeared, including ZLibrary.To and Anna's Archive.
“Anna”, who was one of the driving forces behind the Pirate Library, decided to release her own site, simply called “Anna’s Archive“.
Anna’s Archive is a meta-search engine that can find content from third-party ‘pirate’ sources. This includes direct downloads through Library Genesis forks and Z-Library.
Dimming The Sun With Solar Geoengineering
@takebackourtech | SOURCE
The New Yorker released a piece today bringing Solar Engineering back into the public conversation.
—
The idea behind solar geoengineering is essentially to mimic what happens when volcanoes push particles into the atmosphere; a large eruption, such as that of Mt. Pinatubo, in the Philippines, in 1992, can measurably cool the world for a year or two.
This scheme, not surprisingly, has few public advocates, and even among those who want to see it studied the inference has been that it would not actually be implemented for decades.
Others, around the world, however, are working to speed up that timeline. There are at least three initiatives under way that are studying the potential implementation of solar-radiation management, or S.R.M., as it is sometimes called: a commission under the auspices of the Paris Peace Forum, composed of fifteen current and former global leaders and some environmental and governance experts, that is exploring “policy options” to combat climate change and how these policies might be monitored; a Carnegie Council initiative of how the United Nations might govern geoengineering; and Degrees Initiative, an academic effort based in the United Kingdom and funded by a collection of foundations, that in turn funds research on the effects of such a scheme across the developing world. The result of these initiatives, if not the goal, may be to normalize the idea of geoengineering.
It would take only a tiny fraction of that effort to inject aerosol particles into the stratosphere. (Sulphur dioxide is the most commonly discussed candidate, but aluminum, calcium carbonate, and, most poetically, diamond dust, have also been proposed.) A recent article in the Harvard Environmental Law Review estimates that the “direct costs of deployment—collecting the precursor materials for aerosols, putting them into the sky, monitoring, and so on—would be . . . as low as several billion dollars a year.”
Any country with a serious air force could probably release sulphur from planes in the upper atmosphere. You might not even need a country: it would cost Elon Musk, currently the world’s richest man, far less to fund such a mission than it did to buy Twitter—and he’s already got the rockets.
Privacy researchers known as Mysk continue their crusade and catch Apple in another lie. This time they've found an ID called 'dsId' or 'Directory Services Identifier', which uniquely identifies your iCloud account.
Apple's Device Analytics & Privacy Statement on iOS device analytics reads "None of the collected information identifies you personally."
This DSID is now confirmed to be the same ID that is sent along with App Store Analytics, which tracks every interaction you make with the App Store. This tracking cannot be turned off.
