Friends,
If you have seen my recent interview with Ramiro Romani then you know that I have recently purchased the "Above Phone" from Above Agency. This is a degoogled phone loaded with open source, decentralized app alternatives to the google, apple, microsoft versions most of us are accustomed to.
The best part of using this phone - besides greatly reducing my digital footprint and data leaking - is that Miriam and I are doing this entire tour of the United States without using google maps!
In the coming weeks I will be releasing a review of 3 privacy phones - the Above Phone, the Clear Phone, and the Purism Librem 5. I coincidentally ended up with 3 privacy phones at once so I am going to review them, choose the one I like the most and give away the other 2 to volunteers and attendees of The Activation Tour.
Stay tuned, thanks for the support!

#TakeBackOurTech: Saturday Tinkering
Official Community | Telegram Channel |Telegram Chat Odysee | Hive | Minds
Since its hard to find time during the week, Saturdays are the best days for tinkering.
I was just reading through the survival toolkit article and thinking about how each program could be used together to create full solutions:
https://takebackourtech.org/survival-toolkit/
So my question to you is, since you've installed Linux on your machine, what solutions have you put together?
- An independent browser enhanced with privacy plugins?
- A P2P cloud storage mechanism for your passwords and notes?
- An organized library of music / videos?
- A workflow for recording and producing content?
Or maybe you're already on something that's not on the survival toolkit list. Drop that knowledge on us in @takebackourtech_chat

Back Dat Data Up
Official Community | Telegram Channel |Telegram Chat Odysee | Hive | Minds
This morning I had a mini heart attack, my computer's power toggled last night, causing my main external SSD to remain unrecognized. It holds the majority of all my data and it would have been BAD to lose it.
Luckily a simple `fsck` fixed the issue so that I could remount my drive, but the lesson remains - don't put all your data into one basket.
I'll be copying my more general data onto my other machines, and creating encrypted archives for the more sensitive data.
What would happen if your drives failed today?

A tip:
SSD drives and other memory based storage are not a good medium for backups
A disk with physical platters actually writes to the material (physical) - memory based can not be recovered when dead
CDs and DVDs are made to degrade over time - they lose their 'film' - proper storage will extend their life
Best Medium, a good HD which is used only for backups and stored appropriately - have a few levels of redundancy

I came upon this app called syncthing about two months ago and really couldn't figure out how to use it so I just removed the app. :/
Fast-forward to today thanks to the help of @ramiroro , I atleast got an indication of the power it holds. Took time to set it up and looked up they wiki for some additional configuration and lol, all my files in all the directories are in perfect sync condition. Now I really won't have to send stuff manually with apps like KDE Connect (although I like it for quickly sharing a link to pc, control media playback for the other device and remote control).
Thanks a lot 🤟

@takebackourtech
Finished up with work for the day (yeah, right) and put on Nuclear to listen to some music.
Some amazing features:
- Choose your own invidious instance (maybe i'll run my own soon)
- Autoradio adds similar tracks when your playlist is finishing
- Built in visualizer
I mean look at this thing. Its crazy what JavaScript can do.

TBOT PREVIEW: Who Can We Call On? How Our Phones Are Tracked By Big Tech, Telecom, and Government: Pt 1
Official Community | Telegram Channel |Telegram Chat Odysee | Hive | Minds
I have been researching and writing for over a month now on this massive 5,000 word article as a comprehensive resource for anyone wanting to understand how our phones are tracked. Throughout this process, my understanding has deepened and my viewpoint on viable phone privacy strategies has changed even more. As I point out in the excerpt below, you only need to understand the problem. The solutions come naturally.
THE INTRODUCTION OF THE WHO CAN WE CALL ON ARTICLE
Our mobile phones are the single most important communication device we have. Their function is built ontop of billions of dollars of hardware, software, research, and infrastructure. And this results in the fastest most impressive digital experience the world has ever known. Is this all for our benefit? Do we know the full price we pay?
We all have a gut feeling that data collection exists, but can't point to exactly what is happening. This series is designed to give people a comprehensive overview of how data collection occurs at every layer of the mobile ecosystem, by pointing to real world studies and investigative research.
What you will find is haunting. There are highly coordinated efforts between major corporations both tech, telecom, and government agencies to perform massive dragnet and targetted surveillance of every citizen. This is one of the biggest threats, if not the biggest threat we face today we individuals, families, and communities who value their privacy and freedom.
This article is not meant to incite fear, but we cannot understand the solutions without knowing the problems, and so we must start with the most observable threats to our mobile privacy. By understanding how the tracking works, the solutions are immediately obvious - you will intuitively figure out the solutions yourselves before the end of this article, before the solutions are even presented.
Who can we call on? There's only one person I have in mind. You!

Friends,
It really has been a wonderful experience to be on the road the last 3 weeks. We are meeting so many powerful people who are focused on solutions for themselves and their families. These talks and connections are fueling me up to continue the fight long into the future.
I know many people feel discouraged or doubtful about what we are facing. Without a doubt we are facing monumental obstacles, but we are also fully capable of making it through. I know we can continue to survive and thrive. I know it. I have seen it.
However, it's going to take time, effort, money, and pushing past your discomfort or fears. We have to step up to the plate right now. This IS our moment to shine. Either we step up and protect the coming generations and honor the work our ancestors did to get us here - or, we fail and allow the Predator Class to take control of the future of humanity.
I refuse to accept this and I hope you do as well.
What we need now, more than ever, is to make a personal commitment to our selves, our family, our Creator, and make sure we do everything and anything we need to do to stop the Technocracy from swallowing us all whole. Personally, I do not believe we can stop it, but I know we can survive and thrive OUTSIDE of their systems.
Together we are laying the foundation for the next stage of humanity. It won't be easy, but it is our task. Let's build something beautiful!

You Are Infinite Potential
@neo_network | @neo_network_chat
You never know what you're capable of until you do it.
This thought popped into my head today after the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) that arises naturally after thinking of a new idea.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this. The feeling of starting your own farm, community, changing up your technologies, or cleaning up your room (my personal favorite).
Worrying about your plans is more difficult than sitting there and making them happen. So don't worry. Make it happen.
