Lava and HMD are set to launch D2M (Direct-to-Mobile) services in collaboration with FreeStream Technologies and other D2M partners. With D2M, phones will offer live TV streaming without an active data connection or Wi-Fi network. HMD has also collaborated with IIT Kanpur and Tejas Networks to support the D2M service.
The HMD D2M phone will be showcased at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai on May 1.
Sinclair Inc., an American telecommunications company, has confirmed that these phones will use ATSC 3.0—the next-generation digital terrestrial television broadcast standard. Sinclair is also working on B2X (Broadcast-to-Everything) technology, with a focus on future 6G requirements.
Device highlights:
- HMD D2M mobile will feature the SL-3000 chipset (developed by Saankhya Labs).
- Lava D2M mobile will feature a MediaTek MT6261 SoC with an integrated SL-3000, a 2,200 mAh battery, and a UHF antenna for TV reception.
