Samsung vs TSMC: Race to 2nm heats up as Samsung doubles its US production capacity

- Samsung to upgrade its entire production line at the Taylor, Texas fab from the planned 4nm process to 2nm
- The initial mass production target has went up from 20,000 to 50,000 wafers per month, matching TSMC's planned initial 2nm capacity in Taiwan
- Samsung has also signed a massive $16.5B deal with Tesla to manufacture their next-gen "AI6" autonomous driving processors
- The Korean giant aims to reach a capacity of 100,000 wafers per month by 2027
- Full-scale operations are set to begin in March 2026, with the first wafer deliveries expected in Q2 2026

Former Samsung engineer who allegedly leaked DRAM manufacturing to ChangXin Memory Technologies allegedly took notes of over 600 complex manufacturing steps over 5 years.

Samsung invested $1.1 Billion in the 10nm tech that was allegedly leaked.

ChangXin advanced from 17nm to 10nm manufacturing in just a year.
