We now have universal artificial blood 🩸. This was created by Japanese Researchers from National Defense Medical College . This blood type can be infused into any patient without the need for blood-type matching . This artificial blood type can be stored for a year unlike human blood that has short shelf life and must match recipients . This innovative idea will serve as alternative to help in emergency cases of trauma or pandemic situations .

We now have universal artificial blood 🩸. This was created by Japanese Researchers from National Defense Medical College . This blood type can be infused into any patient without the need for blood-type matching . This artificial blood type can be stored for…
🚨 NO MORE BLOOD TYPES: JAPAN’S LAB TESTS ALL-COMPATIBLE ARTIFICIAL BLOOD. 😯
This new synthetic blood could end emergency transfusion shortages.
→ Japan’s Nara Medical University has developed a synthetic blood that works across all blood types and lasts 24 months — compared to the current 1-month shelf life of donated blood. This bypasses the blood-matching logistics that limit current transfusion systems.
→ The artificial blood is made from hemoglobin extracted from expired donations, encapsulated in a virus-proof shell. This recycles waste while making the product safer and universally usable.
→ It’s purple due to its formulation, a byproduct of stabilizing hemoglobin without relying on typical red-cell architecture.
→ Clinical trials are active, with subjects receiving 100–400 mL doses. If successful, rollout in Japan is expected by 2030.
→ Professor Hiromi Sakai leads the project; Professor Teruyuki Komatsu from Chuo University contributed by creating albumin-based oxygen carriers to stabilize blood pressure in critical care.
→ Major use-cases: trauma, surgeries, stroke care, and emergency hemorrhage management — all without needing matched donations. The tech also opens up battlefield, remote-area, and disaster-relief usage where blood shortages are common.
→ Regulatory approval will depend on ongoing safety and efficacy results from current clinical trials.
