90% lower subscriber loss sounds great… until you realise the rest of Vodafone Idea’s Q1 FY26 report is a red sea of problems.


1. CEO Akshaya Moondra says Vi’s subscriber loss was 90% lower compared to Q2 & Q3 last year.


2. Vodafone Idea Loss widens:

Q1 FY26 loss = ₹6,608 crore.
Last quarter = ₹6,432 crore.

Despite:
- Higher ARPU
- More 4G/5G subscribers

EBITDA margin slipped from 42.3% → 41.8%.
Revenue? Flat at ₹11,022 crore

3. ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) went from ₹175 → ₹177 QoQ.

But here’s the problem — for three quarters, ARPU has barely moved (₹173–₹177 range).

4. 4G/5G subscribers went from 126.4M → 127.4M.

Coverage improved from 82.7% → 84.1%.
Decent, yes. But not enough.

To meaningfully grow ARPU, Vi needs way more 4G/5G users — and that’s just not happening fast enough.

5. Blended churn stayed at 4.1%.

Translation: The subscriber loss rate hasn’t improved, even with better networks.

Average data usage is rising, but that’s probably due to free 5G & unlimited 4G data — not because more people are joining or staying.

6. Another red flag — Vodafone Idea's Active user base fell from 175.3M → 172.7M.

Total subscribers are now below 200M (197.7M) and still falling.

With funding troubles, catching up to Airtel/Jio’s network experience looks near impossible right now.

7. One small win for Vodafone Idea:

Postpaid users rose from 25.6M → 26.6M.
But that’s not enough to offset the bigger declines

8. AGR dues.

Deferred payments will soon be payable, and without a miracle (or fresh govt help), Vi’s runway looks painfully short.

9. So what’s the real problem?

- Is it just the network?
- Or is it the market’s lack of trust in Vi?
= Or a mix of everything — churn, slow growth, money troubles?

Right now, it feels like all of the above.

10. Vi’s updates about network improvements are regular and solid. But sentiment… sentiment is hard to fix once it’s broken.

Unless there’s a big turnaround — fast — Q1 FY26 might just be another step down a very slippery slope for Vodafone Idea.
