PWM Dimming explained

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is a display dimming technology that varies the light pulse to alter screen brightness

In short, smartphone brightness is adjusted by altering the ON-time & OFF-time

Higher brightness means High ON time (Lower OFF Time) and vice versa with Lower brightness.

For eg: 100% brightness means 100% ON time & 50% brightness means ON for 50% and OFF for 50% of time
This means OLED screen will TOGGLE b/w these modes at a VERY high Frequency

Now, when using at Extreme LOW brightness like at night, it will be Higher OFF Time compared to ON time creating a flickering affect.
So High frequency PWM Frequency means LESS flickering affect

S23 Ultra uses 240Hz PWM dimming which is VERY low that can cause eye strain, headache etc as it causes multiple contractions and expansions of the pupils due to Low frequency. It will affect ALL users at low brightness

Pixel Watch 2 will be launched alongside Google Pixel 8 series in October Fall event.
It will be powered by LATEST "Snapdragon W5" chipset Likely to be Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 ditching the Samsung Exynos chip.

Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 watch SoC is built on 4nm process featuring 4x A53 cores at 1.7GHz with Dual Adreno 702 GPUs at 1GHz.
In comparison, the original Pixel Watch’s Exynos 9110 is built on a 10nm process with 2x Cortex-A53s only

For battery, Pixel Watch 2 might be easily able to get 1 day battery life with AOD Enabled.
So 2 days battery life on Pixel Watch with AOD disabled

Pixel Watch 2 will be powered by Latest WearOS 4 by Google featuring “several updates and optimizations"

Coming to Sensor, Pixel Watch 2 will have similar sensor to Fitbit. So sensors for tracking all-day stress management, Skin temperature sensor, etc

Fingerprint Authentication on Android smartphones can be unlocked for just 15$

Security researchers have developed a new attack named as "BrutePrint" that uses 15$ hardware to exploit vulnerabilities to unlock fingerprint biometrics in Android smartphones

Phones were connected to 15$ circuit board. It uses Database of fingerprints to attempt to unlock the phone unlimited times using the available fingerprint data

It was tested on 10 smartphones:
Mi 11 Ultra, Vivo X60 Pro, OnePlus 7 Pro, OPPO Reno Ace, Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, OnePlus 5T, HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G, HUAWEI P40, Apple iPhone SE, and Apple iPhone 7.

The amount of time to unlock each phone was different as it depends on various factors such as security framework, no. of fingerprints stored etc.
In this "Specific" case, Galaxy S10 Plus took least time (45 minutes - 3hrs) while Mi 11 Ultra took max time (3 hrs - 14hrs)
iPhones were immune to the attack

RIP Windows Cortana

Microsoft announced that it is ending support for Cortana in Windows 10 and 11 later this year

Although, Microsoft notes that "This change only impacts Cortana in Windows, and Cortana will continue to be available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms."

Bing ChatAI and Windows Copilot will be replacing Cortana on Windows as they are more useful and powerful too

Microsoft first launched Cortana to Windows 10 in 2015, allowing you to set reminders, open applications, and ask questions using voice commands.

After Cortana was launched, its been since declining since forever.
In March 2021, the Cortana mobile app was shut down entirely. Now its been dead on Windows too
