Madhav Sheth to help HONOR re-enter smartphone market in India

In March 2023, Madhav Seth stepped down as Realme India CEO and a Chinese National now heads Realme India.
Madhav Sheth was promoted to Realme Global VP (Vice President) for Business and Corporate Strategy

A Report now suggests that Madhav Sheth would RESIGN from Realme Global within a week and would join its rival HONOR to launch its smartphones in August

Honor does NOT sells its products directly amid geopolitical tension b/w India and China.
Instead they sells it through its partner which is PSAV Global in India having 5000 retailers and 100 distributors across India

Honor already sells in Laptops and wearables in India through PSAV Global. Now it will start selling smartphones with the help of Madhav Sheth

ED issues Show-cause Notices to Xiaomi India for Foreign Exchange violation of Rs.5,551 crores

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) of India has issued " Show-Cause notices" to Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India Director and Chief Financial Officer along with 3 Foreign banks — Citi Bank, HSBC Bank and Duetsche Bank AG for foreign exchange violation.

A show-cause notice is issued after the completion of the ED investigation and once it is settled, an accused is required to pay "penalty".

Last Year, ED seized Rs 5,551 crores (682 Million US$) as it has been transferred out of India by Xiaomi India in an "unauthorized manner" and is held outside India by passing them off as "royalty" payments.

It is highest amount frozen yet in India and ED sent it for approval from competent authority

The authority confirmed it as they observed that payment of royalty is nothing but a tool to transfer the foreign exchange out of India

Xiaomi India might pay maximum of Rs. 16,653 crores as penalty

Samsung Electronics Employee stole chip technology to Copy-Cat it in China

An ex-Samsung Electronics employee has been charged for stealing Samsung’s semiconductor chip-related technology and then tried to build Copy-Cat chip factory in China.

The employee even formerly worked at SK Hynix (another South Korean chip manufacturing company) for 28 years and even served as its Vice President

After illegally acquiring Samsung Data, he tried to build rival factory in 2018-19 within only 1.5Km away from a Samsung chip manufacturing facility in Xian, China.
However, the attempt failed due to funding-related issues

Samsung faced around $23 million worth of losses due to this information leak.

The court trial has yet to be begin.
6 more people have also been charged by prosecutors including an "inspection" company employee accused of leaking the architectural plan of Samsung's semiconductor factory.

A guy purchased Vivo Y22 which is a 200$ smartphone on 28th April and after just 40 days it exploded

The fire caused due to explosion was so devastated that the fire burnt down his room only

His LED TV and other stuff lying in his room are all burnt as shown in the video

Luckily nobody was hurt.
The smartphone has insurance but no step has been taken yet

Google Deprecated AOSP Dialer and Messages apps

The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) ships with a variety of open-source apps by Google but it has now deprecated support for the Dialer and Messages apps

Google notes:
"This app is not actively supported and the source is only available as a reference. This project will be removed from the source manifest sometime in the future"

This won't affect many OEMs as they ship their own Dialer & Messages apps or use Google variants instead of AOSP.

This could affect Custom ROMs as they will need to ship Google Dialer and Messages apps or develop their own apps.

Madhav Sheth, Realme Vice President and President of Realme's International Business Group, has quit Realme after 5 years.
He was also the former Realme India CEO

It was already known that Sheth will exit Realme within a week and he did.
Now might join HONOR to help them launch their smartphones in India

Honor is entirely separate company from Huawei and does NOT uses Kirin SoC nor EMUI.
They uses it own MagicUI that comes with Google apps

Its kinda great to have HONOR smartphones return in India as currently the "quality" of smartphone provided by all chinese brands are garbage as full with Motherboard, camera, SystemUI, display issues

Honor R&D is pretty solid even. Expect a good competition to Xiaomi and Realme in mid-range segment.

Honor will launch its 1st smartphone in August in India

YouTube Lowered the Monetization Requirements for Creators

The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) allows creators to monetize their content. But now YouTube has eases it more.

New Requirements:
• 500 subscribers reached
• 3000 watch hours OR 3 Million short views

Old Requirements:
• 1000 subscribers
• 4000 watch hours OR 10 Million short views

New requirements will first roll out in USA, UK, Canada, Taiwan and South Korea.

Note: For creators, main part of Monetization "Long Videos or Shorts Video feed Ad revenue"
For this feature, creators needs to meet Old requirements only

Google Domains has been sold to Squarespace for $180 million

Squarespace has announced today its acquisition of Google Domains in a $180 million deal, which include the approximately 10 million hosted domains.

With the help of Google, Squarespace will provide a seamless transition for all Google Domains customers to their platform. They will also honor all existing domain renewal prices for at least 12 months after the acquisition which is expected to close in Q3 2023.

As part of the agreement, Squarespace will become the exclusive domains provider for any customer purchasing a domain along with their Workspace subnoscription from Google directly for a minimum of three years.
