Xiaomi and Vivo's Surprise: Chrome Homepage Switcheroo!
Twitter
Picture this: You use Google Chrome in your smartphones when suddenly, Xiaomi steps in and decides,
"Hey, let's change your default homepage to our very own website!"
Without any fanfare or announcement, Xiaomi is secretly been changing the default homepage of Google Chrome browser in its MIUI.
It redirects to mintnav.com, Xiaomi's navigation site.
This change is happening under the radar, no announcements, no permissions asked by Xiaomi
Many users on Reddit reported that Its happening mostly after updating to MIUI 14.
You can check by going in Homepage option under Chrome's Setting
The reason is, Vendors (Xiaomi) can actually push a default homepage in Chrome Android
Thats why you can see same thing even on Custom ROMs since Chrome would sync it
I don't think so who gonna love when their Chrome browser redirects to Xiaomi Navigation site at start
Prolly that's why some users love Xiaomi and even their MIUI over Custom ROMs
Vivo and iQOO also does same thing as other chinese brands

Woman bites through security wire to steal iPhone 14 Plus in China
Source
A woman in China was caught "chewing" through the Apple store's anti-theft cord to steal the iPhone 14 Plus worth around 7,000 CNY (960 US$ or ₹79,750)
She got successful in completely biting off the cable, then put the iPhone 14 Plus in her bag and left the store.
Nobody suspected her because she pretended like she is scrolling through the phone like a normal customer
The theft alarm was reportedly set OFF during the theft, said the store manager
After the manager showed CCTV evidence to the police, they caught her in just 30mins
The thief told police that "she planned to buy a new device at the store after losing her phone, but when she saw the prices she decided to steal one."

TRICK: Utilize Windows Bugs to your Advantage
Twitter
Everybody knows Windows File Explorer is pretty slow and even says "working on it" when you search something
So here's a trick using which you can utilize a Windows bug to speed up your Windows File Explorer
Trick: Open the File Explorer and then switch in to Full screen mode by pressing F11 or Fn+F11
After that immediately switch out to normal by pressing F11 again
You will notice this bug noticeably improves load times!
This F11 trick also improves directory loading performance OR drastically lowers the "Working on it..." time on production Windows 11 builds where there is no XAML navigation bar yet
Yeah, I have tested it and this trick works 100% lmfaoooo
A guy has even developed a AutoHotKey noscript to automate this process XD
Check it out on GitHub

Facebook, Microsoft & Amazon join hands to challenge Apple & Google Maps
Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and the mapping company TomTom formed the Overture Maps Foundation in 2022 and now has released its first open map dataset.
With this data, 3rd-party developers can create global mapping or navigation products of their own, allowing them to go head-to-head with Google Maps and Apple Maps
According to Overture, the release includes 59 Million places of interest, along with data on buildings, restaurant, transportation networks, and administrative boundaries etc
The data layers have been formatted so developers can “ingest and use map data in a standard, documented way and will be interoperable"

Get Ready to pay to Spotify for Lyrics now
Spotify added lyrics features back in 2021 which is FREE to both non-subscribers as well as premium users
But now, Spotify is restricting access to premium subscribers for lyrics, ditching it for free tier users
Since I use Apple music & Youtube Music, I downloaded Spotify to confirm the rumour and found out lyrics are still available
Even in Spotify latest beta version, lyrics is still a FREE feature for me
So, Spotify is basically testing "lyrics as Premium Excluisve feature" and some unlucky users have got it in their experiment
Only time will tell, if Spotify will keep lyrics for premium tier or for both

Apple MacBooks will be affordable
Source
Apple is developing a low-cost MacBook series to compete with Chromebook models in the education sector
A new product line will be launched by apple for its low-cost MacBook series
Low-cost MacBook would still retain metal build quality but it would be made of different material
The unit price of the mechanical components will be lower, allowing for a more affordable price similar to Chromebooks.
Compared with the rapid growth of Chromebooks due to Covid-19, Apple's iPad is falling behind in the education sector.
In Q2 2023, Apple saw iPad revenue fall 20% on year. Apple estimated it will continue to fall in Q3 2023 as well
Industry Observers noted that iPads CANNOT compete with Chromebooks because:
1) iPads are not that easy to use as Chromebooks
2) Chromebook are more affordable
Low-cost Apple Macbooks will launch in second-half of 2024

The September 2023 Android Feature Drop is here! The Android Feature Drop is a roundup of new features in Google apps. The latest drop brings an updated At a Glance widget, new Android Auto apps, and improvements to Lookout, Wallet, and Routines. Here's a 🧵 about what's new:
Because this ALWAYS causes confusion, no, this is NOT the same thing as the Pixel Feature Drop. The Pixel Feature Drop is for new Pixel-exclusive features, while the Android Feature Drop is for new features in Google apps that are available to all Android devices.
1) The Google App's At a Glance widget is getting a visual revamp and new features. The widget will surface helpful information like weather alerts, travel updates, and event reminders. (Note: this is not the same At a Glance widget found on Pixel devices.)
2) With image Q&A, now out of closed beta, the Lookout app can automatically generate denoscriptions from images that have low quality captions or that don't have alt text at all. Users can then use their voice or type to ask questions about the image.
Lookout also now supports 11 new languages, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, bringing the total number of supported languages to 34.
3) Google Wallet now supports Pass photo import, letting you digitize any pass that has a barcode or QR code. You can, for example, upload an image of your gym or library card to store a digital version of it in Google Wallet.
4) Apps for Zoom and Webex by Cisco are coming to Android Auto, letting you join conference calls by audio and browse your meeting schedules right from your car display.
5) You can now get Assistant to automatically read out your activity and sleep data (from Fitbit or Google Fit) through a new action in personal Routines. For example, you can add the "get wellness info" action to the "Hey Google, good morning" routine.
