Apple Confirms that it shut down Beeper Mini’s iMessage for Android Beeper Cloud provides iMessage for Android by routing iMessage through a Mac So, Beeper Mini was introduced by “Reverse-Engineering” the iMessage protocol & since Beeper Mini connects directly…
Beeper Mini is working again!

Beeper made iMessage possible natively on Android while having end-to-end encryption by "Reverse Engineering" iMessage Protocol.

But Apple then tried to cut off its access, which made Beeper Mini failing to send/receive iMessages on Android

Apple argued that techniques exploit "fake credentials" & it cannot verify these "faux-iMessages” sent through Beeper are end-to-end encrypted

Beeper now responds that:
Apple's statement is 1984-esque doublespeak & is completely FUD 😂😂😂

Also, If Apple doubts the security & privacy of Beeper Mini, they can share the entire source code with a mutually agreed upon 3rd party security research firm

Additionally, Beeper Mini has REMOVED the Subnoscription of 2$ per month and the app is now completely FREE to use

However, Phone number registration is NOT working yet & Apple ID is mandatory to log in to Beeper Mini
iMessage will be sent/received through your email address rather than your phone number

First look at Android's Private Space
Source

Google is adding Private Space in Android likely inspired by Samsung's Secure Folder, starting with Android 15

Your smartphone contains a lot of private information, photos, etc & some situations might occur when you have to hand your phone over to someone else

That's where Private Space will come in as it will allow you to hide your apps & your private data in it

Private Space creates a new Android profile of type “android.os.usertype.profile.PRIVATE”, which is tied to the primary user.

A benefit of Private Space being built into Android itself is that the apps will not solely disappear from the launcher
Private Space apps will NOT appear in Android's own permission manager, privacy dashboard & other settings when Private Space is locked

Notifications from apps in Private Space are hidden when it’s locked, further protecting your privacy.

You can set up different pin/passwords than your device's to unlock your private space

Is it possible to run powerful AI features locally on the device?

Google introduced Generative AI wallpaper but it works over the cloud for generating walls rather than on-device.
Since its an Android feature, any OEM can ship it

Qualcomm showcased Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip capable of running Stable Diffusion locally on-device

Pixel 8 Pro with Tensor G3 SoC boasts Video Boost feature which adjusts colors, lighting, stabilization & graininess to the videos but this post-processing also happens over Google data centers

Well, it depends upon how big is the AI model

Video Boost model weighs atleast 50GB & Generative AI Wallpapers is of atleast 160GB in size
So out of a 256GB storage device, OEM's Wallpaper app only will take 70% storage.

And If OEM ships them through an OTA update, then imagine how big will be the system size and future fastboot & OTA images

So are you gonna sacrifice 100s of GB of storage just for some AI features because you want it to run "locally on-device" ?

iPhone 16 Early Prototype Design
Source

These designs are based on early pre-production units of iPhone 16.
Apple engineers refer to the iPhone 16 as DeLorean internally

iPhone 16 will have vertically aligned rear cameras & Apple is considering two different camera bump designs:

‌iPhone‌ 12-style design, with two camera lenses located one above the other
‌iPhone‌ X-type design, with a singular pill-shaped enclosure

Apple is also experimenting with an all-new capacitive Capture Button, developed internally under the codename Project Nova.
This button will feature a force sensor in addition to "tact-switching" functionality, although it is still unclear what the latter entails.

mmWave antenna has been moved to the left side of the device due to the capacitive Capture button placement

Vanilla iPhone 16 will also have an action button similar to the iPhone 15 pro models along with dynamic island

First Look at OnePlus 12 Dead Mosquito Edition

OnePlus 12 is IP65 rated & it's Quality Control is pretty bad

Several OnePlus 12 owners have reported gaps b/w the OnePlus 12 camera housing & it's body.
Few users have reported an excess amount of glue around the camera housing.

A user OnePlus 12 unit even has a "dead mosquito" inside & on the other side, there’s also a "hair" stuck under the glass.

OnePlus China's president claimed that it is NOT a design or quality issue & even the IP65 rating won't be affected

"Devices are built with certain tolerance in mind & due to the different thermal expansion & contraction coefficients of different materials in mass production requirements, they might fail sometimes"

RIP Google Podcasts

Google Podcasts will stop working in the US “as early as April 2024,” in favor of YouTube Music

" In YouTube Music, you will be able to listen to your podcasts just like you did on Google Podcasts, NO paid subnoscription required."

Google Podcasts will get an online tool soon to “Export subnoscriptions” to YouTube Music
There will be an option to export Google Podcasts subnoscriptions as an OPML file if you want to switch to a 3rd-party app.

For podcasts that aren’t currently available on YouTube, listeners will be able to add shows directly to their YouTube Music library via the podcast’s RSS feed

" We’ll share more about Google Podcasts’ availability and the release of this migration tool for other countries soon."

Apple launched AirPods Pro USB-C case for lightning port case users

Back in September, Apple introduced a new version of the ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2nd gen with USB-C Charging Case priced at 250$

It is basically the SAME as Airpods Pro 2nd Gen but comes with an IP54 rating & USB-C case instead of a lightning port.

It even features Apple's Lossless Audio codec with ultra-low latency, BUT the codec only works with Apple Vision Pro XR Headset which costs 3500$ LOL

Now, for users having lighting port Airpods Pro 2nd Gen, Apple has launched a USB-C case for the same priced at 100$

Good for users who want to have Type-C charging for their lightning port Airpods & at the same time also good for Apple to make more money.
However, Mother Nature will be upset now (iykyk)

AI is Scary!

Researchers from the Alibaba Group, have unveiled character animation technology ‘Animate Anyone’, which can transform still images into dynamic character videos.

The model works by extracting details such as patterns, facial features, poses, etc. Based on these details, a series of images is created where the details are mapped onto various poses.
These are later motion-captured or extracted from another video.

With the previous image-to-video models, hallucination was one of the major problems, as the model was expected to create minute details of how a sleeve or hair might move when a person turns.

Animate Anyone has improved a lot on this problem, although it's still not perfect

This is good and scary at the same because just by using someone's high-quality image, you could make an animated video of the person with facial expressions & voice

A lot of deep-fake videos might emerge now on TikTok, Instagram, XXX sites, etc after the model gets deployed successfully

Forwarded from Nothing Fuckups
After two failed repairs on a 3 month old device, Nothing finally agreed to give a phone replacement 4 days before a legal complaint being filed.

This resolution came after 55 days of denying a replacement, but came with two clauses which are unacceptable:
1. Remove all posts about Nothing on Twitter
2. Withdraw the legal claim sent to India's National Consumer Helpline which was sent 41 days earlier

Nothing is extorting unsatisfied consumers with an ultimatum that prevents other buyers from knowing flaws in products they want to purchase.

I know this is India where consumer rights aren't as good as in the EU/US, but is this really a company worth buying from?

Google will allow users to remove At A Glance from homescreen on Pixel Launcher
Source

Google's Pixel launcher features Smartspace, which is a container in Android for displaying information.
Smartspace is similar to a widget, but it integrates with installed apps & has access to system-level permissions.

One of the Smartspaces introduced in Android 12 is "At a Glance" which shows information like Time, Date, Weather, etc on the lockscreen, AOD, or homescreen of the device

Now, Pixel Launcher is finally getting a toggle that will let users HIDE the At a Glance widget from the home screen.
After the widget is hidden, ANY widget can be placed over that space as well

Additionally, the Pixel launcher will also allow users to move the At a Glance widget around on the homescreen and even rearrange it!

Now, NO need to use Magisk modules to remove at a glance or custom launchers
These changes are spotted in QPR 2 Beta
