Here are my first impressions of the new ROG Phone 8 Pro:
* It feels so much lighter, thinner, and better in hand than the previous models!
* The bezels are also much smaller, and the back has this nice textured layer that you can see but not feel underneath the glass.
* The corners are not nearly as sharp anymore! Holding the phone on a corner no longer hurts my palms.
* There's a neat AI wallpaper feature like on the Pixel 8 series. Like Google's version, you can choose from a few preset topics and also edit the prompt a bit (change the background, tone, and "inspiration"). Unlike Google's version, ASUS' AI wallpaper generator runs on-device using a Stable Diffusion model on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Here's a video demo.
* Another neat use of AI on the ROG Phone 8 is semantic search. This also runs on-device and helps you search through your photos, settings, and apps. Here's a video demo.
* If you aren't a fan of the AOD but still like getting subtle notification alerts, the new "custom effect" option is for you. This displays notification icons on the AOD in the top left when the phone is charging. The ROG Phone 8 doesn't have a notification LED anymore, so this is useful if you don't want to use the full AOD.
* Contrary to some rumors, the AirTriggers feature hasn't been removed.

Day-light Detailed Results of Blind Smartphone Camera Test
MKBHD finally made a video about winners of the Blind Smartphone Camera Test revealing all the 20 smartphones which were nominated for tests and the ranking they got from people's voting
The pictures were clicked just by opening the camera in the default configs & without manual focus even, leaving everything to the autofocus capabilities of the camera like how 90% of people on Earth clicks
The day-light pic involves sitting by a window-side wherein the strongest light is from inside the room.
But then the window light is actually a good test of dynamic range & there's also a variety of colors like orange chair, blue pillow, MKBHD's skin tone, etc such that NO individual variable can dominate this test
Winners:
🥇Pixel 7a
🥈Pixel Fold
🥉OnePlus Open
4th: OnePlus 11
iPhone 15 got the LOWEST ranking (20th) in the day-light results and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra secured the 19th position

Low-light Detailed Results of Blind Smartphone Camera Test
The night-sight photography involves clicking pictures within very low-light areas and it is more challenging than day-light photography. Computational photography plays the main role here
The pic above involves a rooftop environment where the ONLY light source was from a building which was situated 40 feet away from MKBHD
Winners:
🥇iPhone 15 Pro
🥈Pixel 8 Pro
🥉Pixel 7A
4th: iPhone 15
S23 Ultra got 5th position but it produced a too-bright image with even little HDR halo effects around MKBHD's head
Oppo Find X6 Pro got the LOWEST position (20th) as it went nuts 💀
Pic from Find X6 pro looked like it painted over MKBHD sloppily and dragged the exposure LMFAO

Portrait Mode Detailed Results
Different smartphone cameras do 2x, 3x, or even 1.5x while using portrait mode in their camera apps
So to offer a fair test, the team moved their feet back and forward such as to match the focal length
Winners:
🥇Pixel 8 Pro
🥈Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
🥉iPhone 15 Pro
4th: Pixel 7A
Surprisingly, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel managed to defeat the iPhone
However, iPhone 15 pro still produced the most natural-looking blur out of all
Sony Xperia 1V got the LOWEST position (20th)
The portrait image was so weird that the team clicked the pic again after cleaning the lens and then also Xperia 1V produced the same result
It's already known that Xperias are pretty bad in auto images & you need to be a professional photographer to be able to utilize the powerful camera hardware of Xperia smartphones
Xiaomi 13 Ultra secured 2nd position from the bottom (19th)

Overall Winners and Losers of Blind Smartphone Camera Test
Averaging the ELO rating scores received in the 3 categories provides the overall winners & losers
Winners:
🥇Pixel 7A
🥈Pixel 8 Pro
🥉Pixel Fold
So ALL Google Pixels nominated sweep the blind smartphone camera test
Sony Xperia 1V got the LOWEST ranking which was expected
OnePlus Open got 4th position indicating that its Hasselblad partnership with a $150 Million investment is now paying off after 3yrs 👍🏻
Galaxy S23 secured 5th position & considering Samsung doesn't partner with any camera brand like Zeiss/ Leica, this is a good improvement 👍🏻
However, the S23 Ultra secured 16th rank indicating typical Scamsung Moment
Xiaomi 13 Ultra got 19th position
Xiaomi pays a royalty to Leica and Leica in return does its tuning, computational photography & sensor calibration.
Still, Xiaomi got 2nd position but from the 'bottom' XD
Congratulations Xiaomi for living up to my expectation of being the worst brand ever

The rumors were true: Google is rebranding Nearby Share to “Quick Share” to better align with Samsung’s P2P file sharing service of the same name. Google collaborated with Samsung to integrate the experiences and bring “the best of [their] sharing solutions together into a singular cross-Android solution under the Quick Share name”.
The updated Quick Share branding will start rolling out to current Nearby Share-enabled devices next month.
The blog post is a bit vague, but my understanding is that Samsung’s existing Quick Share client now runs Google’s Nearby SDK in addition to their own. This would allow Nearby Share-enabled devices to appear in Samsung’s Quick Share menu, while also retaining support for sharing with existing Quick Share-compatible devices like Samsung PCs.
Speaking of PCs, Google says they’re working with OEMs like LG to bundle Google’s Quick Share Windows client.

Gorilla Glass Victus on Redmi Note 13 Pro+ scratches at just level 4!
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus comes with an AMOLED Display with a so-called 12-bit color depth and a Corning Gorilla Victus Glass 1 for protection
In the durability test by an Indian reviewer, Redmi Note 13 pro+ gets scratches at level 4 only!
Although, it's NOT the Victus 2, BUT the other smartphones that got Victus 1 scratches at level 6 with deeper groves at level 7
FunFact: Even the Gorilla Glass 3 scratches at Level 6 with deeper grooves at Level 7
Another Indian reviewer, Geeky Ranjit confirmed in his review that the glass on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ scratches easily too
This is the quality of the product Xiaomi offers for cheap as some people say they buy Xiaomi just for custom ROMs and good hardware 🤓
Remember: If something is cheap, quality is cheap as well which CANNOT be fixed by flashing custom ROMs!
