Proton is going non-profit!
Remember one of the best open-source password manager, VPN, e-mail and storage services by Proton? Yep, they're going non-profit now. They have adopted the swiss non-profit structure which blocks any takeovers and sets a lot of trustees which help in keeping Proton's original mission intact.
Proton-AG itself will continue to remain for-profit, however, rest assured, we can sleep peacefully knowing our beloved Proton services are safe.

Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring to Mac, and SharePlay Screen Sharing won’t be available in the EU
Apple announced that 3 major features -- Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, and SharePlay Screen Sharing will not be available in the European Union, when iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia ship later this year due to regulatory concerns relating to compliance with the Digital Markets Act
Apple said in a statement it would compromise “privacy and security" because of EU's DMA Act
Apple also did NOT explain which part of the DMA is getting affected.
Since Apple Intelligence uses AI, it's understandable that it might violate some GDPR or the DMA rules. But what does iPhone mirroring and Share Play has to do with DMA ????
So, it seems like Apple is intentionally restriction features as they are mad over DMA and it's Apple's way to say "F*CK YOU" to the EU

Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring to Mac, and SharePlay Screen Sharing won’t be available in the EU Apple announced that 3 major features -- Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, and SharePlay Screen Sharing will not be available in the…
Here's why iPhone Mirroring Won't be Available in the EU
Apple announced that Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, and SharePlay Screen Sharing will not be available in the EU due to compromises on “privacy and security" because of the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA)
However, the real reason is that, the EU will force Apple to open the API that they use for iPhone mirroring
Releasing the API would open up the Apple eco-system & it would also be beneficial for both consumers and developers since it will open the possibility for Windows PC OEMs to make an iPhone mirroring client as well
Apple also excused "security" concerns when in 2022, EU accused Apple of thwarting competition since ONLY Apple Pay supports Tap to Function using NFC
But now Apple has agreed to provide 3rd-party developers (in the EU only) with open access to the iPhone's NFC & even defaulting of preferred payment apps, access to authentication features such as FaceID.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite Processor and Pricing
It was rumored that the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite will get a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, an update over the Snapdragon 695
Now it's been confirmed by a tipster that Nord CE 4 Lite will once again feature Snapdragon 695 only
Snapdragon 695 5G (SM-6375) was launched in 2021.
Nord CE 2 Lite: Snapdragon 695
Nord CE 3 Lite: Snapdragon 695
Nord CE 4 Lite: Snapdragon 695
So OnePlus has done ZERO upgrades in the SoC of the Nord CE Lite series over the past 3 years.
Nord CE 4 Lite is basically a rebranded version of Oppo K12x in China. However, the global Nord CE 4 Lite (except India and China) will get 5110mAh battery capacity instead of 5500mAh.
List Price: Rs 19,999 (~250$) for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage
Colors: Mega Blue and Super Silver
(WTF are these color names 💀)
Also, the Mega Blue color of the Nord CE 4 Lite was supposed to be available with OnePlus Nord 3 already but it got canceled at the last moment

Apple secretly held a meeting with TSMC to secure all of its 2nm capacity
Apple's Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams reportedly visited TSMC in Taiwan and had a secret meeting with TSMC President Wei Zhejia. This meeting is said to have focused on the development of AI chips and a contract to secure TSMC’s first batch of 2nm production capacity.
Some rumors suggested that TSMC may be forced to delay full-scale mass production of its 2nm process until 2026 due to technical challenges associated with the first-time application of Gate-All-Around (GAA) technology. These rumors were dispelled by TSMC's Vice President, who then claimed that "the yield when applying GAA has reached 90% of the target"
This isn’t the first time Apple has made such a move. When TSMC first started producing its 3nm process, Apple swooped in to contract that first batch of 3nm production as well.
Apple’s A17 Pro chip uses 3nm tech and the company’s M4 chip uses an advanced version of this 3nm technology.

RTranslator: The world's first open source, offline, real-time translation app
It offers three modes:
• Conversation mode: For simultaneous translation between multiple users/devices (between more than two people or devices and in any combination)
• WalkieTalkie mode: For quick, turn-based translations.
• Text translation mode: Just a classic text translator
It uses Meta's NLLB for translation and OpenAI's Whisper for speech recognition, and hence it ensures privacy and works without internet. The app requires a device with at least 6GB RAM and a fast CPU for optimal performance.
RTranslator works even in the background, with the phone on standby or when using other apps (only when you use Conversation or WalkieTalkie modes)

Saving a Text File makes the file No Longer Available in Microsoft Windows
Source
In Microsoft Windows, if you try to save a text file (.txt file) with the following text: "This content is no longer available.", this ironically trips up the Windows defender
Microsoft Defender notes that this text file contains "TROJAN Malware" — "Win32/Casdet!rfn", with the security level mentioned as "Severe" and it will then try to "quarantine" the file automatically.
You CANNOT even open the text file then as the Windows Notepad notes:
"Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software"
The exact reason is unknown but it's likely the case of someone uploading that exact same text file to a malware database. The match is only a few bytes long and all checksums coincide lmao
Microsoft still has NOT patched it yet and it still works.

MacOS Sequoia Developer Beta 1 Can Decrease Your SSD Lifespan
MacOS Sequoia Developer Beta 1 appears to be affected by a bug that's causing the Spotlight feature to write SHOCKING amounts of data to the disk.
A Reddit user, with the help of Activity Monitor app in macOS, reported that overnight, about 26TB of writes had occured to the disk. After a reboot & within 2 minutes of startup, a total of 143GB of data was written to the disk.
The culprit was found to be the spotlight feature — 'corespotlightd' in macOS Sequoia Developer Beta 1.
So if you are running macOS Sequoia Beta, please disable the Spotlight until this is fixed to preserve your SSD's lifespan.
Run the following commands to delete indexing & disable Spotlight from the terminal:
# disable Spotlight
# delete existing index
To re-enable spotlight once Apple fixes it hopefully in the next beta:

Google no longer developing Material Web Components
MWC offered a library of Material 3 components — Button, FAB, Icon button, Checkbox, Chips, Dialog, Divider, Elevation, Focus ring, List, Menu, Progress indicators, Radio, Ripple, Select, Slider, Switch, Tabs, and Text field — that developers could use on websites.
Earlier this month, the team announced (h/t Artem Russakovskii) that MWC has entered maintenance mode and will no longer see updates with all future plans abandoned.
The original team is “investigating ways to continue development of new features and components, including identifying new maintainers.”
