OnePlus India Offers Upgrade Vouchers to Customers Affected by Green Line Issue OnePlus India has announced new vouchers to upgrade their phones for those affected by green lines issues on previous OnePlus models OnePlus 7 series and below: ₹12,000 (~150$)…
OnePlus Silently Changes its Green Lines Issues Policy

OnePlus recently announced vouchers for affected green lines users of OnePlus 8 and 9 series users. For example users can grab a OnePlus 11R for just 50$ by exchanging a OnePlus 9R affected with green lines

Recently, Samsung also announced display replacement for FREE for green lines issues on Galaxy S20 and S21 series (including Note and FE models) but on a condition that the device should NOT be more than 3yrs old from the date of purchase. Unlike Samsung which already clarified to users about the device age, OnePlus did it quietly. OnePlus is now denying users of vouchers if their device is more than 3yrs old

Many users with their 9R affected with green lines were denied a voucher for 11R just because their device was more than 3 years old even if its just 10 days. So the only option is now screen replacement with around Rs. 500 (~6$) labor charge fee

This Windows Registry Hack Can Extend uBlock Origin Support

uBlock Origin will NOT work on Chrome or Edge as Google fully migrates to Manifest v3 soon. Although, uBlock Origin Lite works on manifest v3, however, it is NOT as effective in blocking ads like uBlock Origin. Now, a reddit user has discovered a hack to continue using uBlock Origin unless it patches out.

STEPS:
1. Open the “Registry Editor”.
2. Go to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
3. On the right side of the screen in a BLANK SPOT, RIGHT CLICK -> New/DWORD (32-Bit Value).

4. Name it ExtensionManifestV2Availability & press enter.
5. Right-click it, select "Modify," set the value to 2 (Hexadecimal), and click OK.
6.Open Chrome, go to chrome://policy in the URL bar & check if ExtensionManifestV2Availability is set to 2. If not, click "Reload Policies.

SIMPLER WAY:
Open CMD as admin and type:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome" /f /v ExtensionManifestV2Availability /t REG_DWORD /d 2

USA Considers Breaking Up Google

A federal judge ruled in favour of US's Department of Justice (DoJ) that Google violated US antitrust law by maintaining a monopoly in the search and advertising markets. The judge's decision was historic, as it was the first time an American company was found guilty by an American court in the past 40 years.

Thus, acc to Bloomberg, the DoJ plans to separate Android and Chrome from Google, and maybe forcing Google to sell AdWords platform. These are the worst propositions discussed, but there are less severe measures to prevent Google from gaining a monopoly, including forcing the company to share more data with competitors and measures to prevent it from gaining an unfair advantage in AI products & abusing its position.

The US authorities tried something similar with Microsoft two decades ago and failed, and now time will tell if it will succeed in pushing Google to divest Chrome, Android, and AdWords, its most lucrative businesses.

What will Happen to Mozilla Firefox?

Google has been declared monopolistic in the search and advertising markets. The US Justice and states had sued Google, accusing it of illegally cementing its dominance, in part, by paying other companies, like Apple and Samsung, billions of dollars a year to have Google automatically handle search queries on their smartphones and web browsers.

Since the US federal court ruled in favour of states, thus, the DoJ is planning to break Google apart by taking measures to even separate Chrome and Android & the DoJ may also consider forcing Google to sell their AdWords Platform.

However, Google's deal with Mozilla Firefox makes up 81% of their revenue. According to the Mozilla Foundation's 2021–2022 financial statement, which is the most recent one published, $510 million out of its $593 million in revenue came courtesy of Google's search payments.
So if Google STOPS paying Mozilla, will the Firefox survive?

The most important thing you thought you knew about Qi2 is wrong: Qi2 charging doesn't mean magnetic charging!

Today I learned that there are products that support Qi2 wireless charging but which DON'T have magnets. You likely thought magnetic charging was a requirement of Qi2, but that's definitely not the case!

According to the Wireless Power Consortium, while most registered products certified to the Qi2 spec include magnets, some do not. These non-magnetic Qi2 products may use other methods for aligning chargers and receivers that differ from Qi2 products with magnets.

To differentiate between magnetic (Qi v2.0 MPP) and non-magnetic (Qi v2.0 EPP) products, the WPC requires a different logo and specific verbiage to be included on the package: “This product is built using the latest Qi2 standard but may not include all available Qi2 features."

The WPC actually mentioned this fact in a press release back in November, though they said at the time that Qi v2.0 EPP products will use the old Qi logo; sometime after, they changed the requirement for Qi v2.0 EPP products to use the new logo shown above instead.

From my digging through the WPC database, the vast majority of Qi2 products support MPP, though there are some that do not. Keep an eye out, and don't assume that Qi2 support = magnetic charging/MagSafe compatible!
