Apple rolls out Emergency SOS via satellite to iPhone 14 users
source
The feature is live in the US and Canada as of now but it will come to France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK in December with it being free for 2 years.
Apple developed the service in partnership with Globalstar with an investment of $450 million to provide the “critical infrastructure” for the new feature.
When an iPhone user makes an Emergency SOS via satellite request, the message is received by one of the 24 satellites in low-earth orbit traveling at speeds of approximately 16,000 mph. The satellite then sends the message down to custom ground stations located at key points all over the world.
How it works:
• When dialing 911 with no signal, a green SOS message appears with “No connection, try emergency vext via vatellite." text
• After pressing the button, you will anwser a couple of questions about the accident with preset options, and have an option to contact your emergency contacts
• Then you will move in different directions to align with the satellite (preferably outdoors with a clear view of the sky). As soon as you’re connected, the iPhone sends your location with your questionnaire answers.
If local responders can’t receive text messages, the message goes to an Apple relay center, where they will contact local responders to get you help. In either case, a dispatcher may ask some additional questions via text

Qualcomm announced Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 for AR glasses
Source
It is the first purpose-built 4nm AR chip.
Developed using “multi-chip distributed processing architecture” so that AR processor & connectivity are on the 2 stems, the AR coprocessor in the bridge.
Compared to the XR2, the AR2 uses 50% less power.
Features:
•Concurrent cameras with an “Engine for Visual Analytics” tasked with object detection.
•Latency-sensitive perception data is processed directly on the glasses.
• Drive display output with a “Reprojection Engine” so that visual overlays remain anchored as you move.
•Iris authentication support, as the chip has its own CPU, memory, and hardware for camera/sensor aggregation, computer vision, security.
•Wi-Fi 7 support for under 2 ms latency
The AR coprocessor combines camera and sensor data.
Lenovo, LG, Niantic, Nreal, OPPO, Pico, QONOQ, Rokid, Sharp, TCL, Tencent, Vuzix, and Xiaomi will be adopting this chip in their AR glasses.
