The Information Dynamics Toolkit xl (IDTxl) is a comprehensive software package for efficient inference of networks and their node dynamics from multivariate time series data using information theory. IDTxl provides functionality to estimate the following measures:
For network inference:
🌱multivariate transfer entropy (TE)/Granger causality (GC)
🌱 multivariate mutual information (MI)
🌱 bivariate TE/GC
🌱 bivariate MI
For analysis of node dynamics:
🌱 active information storage (AIS)
🌱partial information decomposition (PID)

Statistical Consequences of Fat Tails: Real World Preasymptotics, Epistemology, and Applications
Nassim Nicholas Taleb
https://www.researchers.one/article/2020-01-21.
The book investigates the misapplication of conventional statistical techniques to fat tailed distributions and looks for remedies, when possible.
Switching from thin tailed to fat tailed distributions requires more than "changing the color of the dress". Traditional asymptotics deal mainly with either n=1 or n=∞, and the real world is in between, under of the "laws of the medium numbers" --which vary widely across specific distributions. Both the law of large numbers and the generalized central limit mechanisms operate in highly idiosyncratic ways outside the standard Gaussian or Levy-Stable basins of convergence.

Workshop on Critical Transitions in Complex Systems 2020 (online)
29th - 31st July 2020
Complex systems research has been at the forefront of scientific priorities for some time and many very interesting phenomena have been identified and explored in the context of a wide variety of applications. This workshop is part of a series, reflecting on an emerging movement to develop a mathematical theory for sudden changes in the dynamical behaviour of complex systems, so-called critical transitions. The prospect to develop reliable early-warning signals for such critical transitions is potentially far-reaching since these could lead to better control strategies to avoid or diminish the effect of catastrophes.
🔗 The workshop will be conducted via zoom. The registration is free but compulsory via the zoom link here.

Did you buy your mother flowers yesterday? While those sweet-smelling roses may bring a smile to your mother’s face, unless you cut them from your own backyard, those flowers are not making the environment smile. The floriculture industry, which thrives off of days of celebration like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day and birthdays, in fact has huge impacts on the environment through water usage, pollution, land degradation, and fossil fuel transportation emissions. Some estimates account that one hectare of a flower farm consumes over 900 cubic meters of water per month!

CCS2020 Conference on Complex Systems 2020, online 7-12 December.
CCS2020 is the flagship conference promoted by the Complex Systems Society. It brings under one umbrella a wide variety of leading researchers, practitioners and stakeholders with a direct interest…
The last years have seen many exciting new developments to train spiking neural networks to perform complex information processing. This online workshop brings together researchers in the field to present their work and discuss ways of translating these findings into a better understanding of neural circuits. Topics include artificial and biologically plausible learning algorithms and the dissection of trained spiking circuits toward understanding neural processing. We have a manageable number of talks with ample time for discussions.
The workshop is being organised by Dan Goodman and Friedemann Zenke.
