Collective response of oscillating neuronal population to the applied perturbation: a computational framework

Abstract: Brain oscillations are hypothesized to modulate the inter-cortical communication and control the integration of information. The signal exchange in such processes relies on the response of the networks to the incoming inputs. Characterizing the network’s response with respect to the timing of input’s arrival, though, is crucial to assess the mechanism of cortical communication. In this study, we introduce a computational framework to investigate the collective response of a network regarding the perturbation phase at which it is received.

Instantaneous Modulation of Gamma Rhythm by Syaptic Time Constants of EI Neurons
In this computational study, we simulated a network of excitatory and inhibitory neurons which generates rhythmic activities in a range of slow oscillations (1-20 Hz) as well as a faster oscillation in the range (30-100 Hz). We verified a noticeable correlation between synaptic decay time constant and amplitude-frequency correlation in cycle-by-cycle population activity. Our results showed that the greater the difference of time decay of inhibitory synapses compared to that of excitatory synapses, the stronger the amplitude-frequency correlation of population activity....

GIN-tonic: collaboration in research made easy
Abstract: Computer scientists have seen their collaboration highly facilitated by the use of GitHub-like platforms. Their work could not be done without the use of issues, pull requests and merges, not any more. However, we have been waiting for a "GitHub for science" tool for a decade. Indeed, the technology needed to deal with research data specificities makes the repository administration very complex and time consuming, and requires relatively high computer skills.

Synchronization of adaptive networks of Sakaguchi-Kuramoto oscillators
Abstract: Sakaguchi-Kuramoto model is a generalization of the well-known Kuramoto model including a phase-lag or frustration parameter. In this work we study the structure and synchronization dynamics of adaptive networks of Sakaguchi-Kuramoto oscillators based on Hebbian and anti-Hebbian learning rules. We show that following anti-Hebbian learning the structure of network is gradually evolved such that the global synchronization is enhanced. On the other hand, Hebbian learning leads to the local synchronization and clustering structure of the network...

NEUROTECH Education Programme
Within the NEUROTECH framework there is an educational initiative on neuromorphic engineering. As the "Neuromorphic engineering" field is receiving increasing importance worldwide, the interest in learning about the field is rising rapidly. However, there is little information and educational material available online. Our aim is to fill this gap with a series of virtual colloquia, each revolving around a specific aspect of the neuromorphic engineering field. In each colloquium, a small number of experts on neuromorphic engineering will answer a specific “question of the day” with a short pitch, followed by a live discussion on the topic, with a moderator and questions from the audience.
