Microsoft has released their new Terminal application to GitHub, marketing it as another demonstration of their commitment to "open source". While the project is MIT licensed, did you know it is inextricably linked and dependent upon numerous proprietary SDK tools, headers, and the Visual C++ ATL.

Do not be fooled, see through the mirage of feigned support to undermine and sabotage the original ethics of the free software movement! This is your chance to educate yourself and others about the ethical concerns about rebranding something critical for the purpose of easy corporate adoption.

Free software works for you, at its core!

Open source works for convenience, and does not care about your freedoms. Big companies expediently utilize unpaid contributor labor to satisfy market goals for their shareholders.

Contribute to projects that respect your freedoms!

This week GNU Guix has reached its first stable 1.0 release! Guix is a package manager that you can use on your own distribution, or you can use the full system configuration as a complete distribution of the GNU operating system! GNU Guix is completely free software, and introspectable and hackable in the Guile implementation of Scheme. Among other incredible features include the GNU Shepherd PID-1 and service manager, containerization, functionally-oriented packages, rollbacks, incremental upgrades, declarative configuration, bootstrappability, reproducibility all-the-way down, and freedom!
