i'm surprised to see the narrative managers catching up with me on this, but perhaps now vegans won't assume i'm trolling when i tell them their lifestyle isn't cruelty-free because plants are conscious too. news flash: if you are so delusional as to think you can exist "cruelty-free" in a world where you're probably reading this on a smartphone made with rare earth minerals harvested by Congolese slave labor, i'm afraid reality is going to hurt when it slams into your face at 60 miles per hour.
(this is not an excuse to abandon efforts to MINIMIZE the harm you cause to the planet & its other inhabitants. however, sanctimonious lectures directed at meat eaters, or passive-aggressive stickers slapped on oblivious old ladies' fur coats, are manifestations of snitch culture masquerading as virtue.
today's sushi-shamers are tomorrow's carbon crusaders, & should learn to redirect these impulses constructively before it's too late. with net zero, the carbon you eliminate may be your own.
