one-click design-to-code tool

After using Figma to create user interfaces and experiences, developers are left with the hefty task of coding the designs in order to create functional websites or apps. Locofy, a Singapore-based front-end development platform backed by Accel, wants to save hours of work with a one-click tool that instantly turns Figma and AdobeXD prototypes into code.

Mastering New Frameworks: Efficient Learning Strategies

When you start learning new dependencies, frameworks, libraries, or tools, going to YouTube and finding crash courses, watching them, and using the documentation to develop some projects is one option. Many of us follow along with project tutorials, coding as they do, and learn this way. However, this approach is not efficient if you want to become a professional and experienced developer.

To truly understand a framework, you need to know the basics: how it was developed, how it works, and why it does what it does. This information is usually available on the official release website and YouTube channel of the dependency. Most creators of these tools have video lectures on their frameworks or libraries.

Additionally, many valuable concepts are only available in paid versions like those on Udemy. While this may not be ideal, you can often find these courses listed for free on Telegram by searching for them. These channels might have fewer subscribers, but the content is often high quality.

So next time, try to find the official releases and tutorial videos. And don’t forget to search for Udemy courses on Telegram!

Understanding Science, Engineering, and Technology

Have you ever thought about what science, engineering, and technology really mean? What about the terms Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology, and Bachelor of Engineering? What does your degree represent?

Science involves the systematic study of the natural world through observation and experimentation. It's about discovering new knowledge and understanding how things work. Engineering applies this scientific knowledge along with mathematical principles to design and build structures, machines, and systems. Technology, meanwhile, uses both science and engineering to develop tools, devices, and processes that solve problems and improve our lives.

For instance, consider heating metal: we start by observing its properties (science), create formulas to predict its behavior when heated (engineering), and then develop devices like thermoswitches that utilize this knowledge (technology).

What are your thoughts? Add your comments below!

A snippet of my conversation with Replika, a conversational companion,

Eugenia Kuyda, an AI researcher (who was also the founder of Replika), lost a close friend in
a car accident. He was only in his 20s. She did not want to lose his memory, so she gathered
all of the texts he had sent over the course of his life and made a chatbot from them. The chat-
bot is programmed to respond automatically to text messages so that Eugenia can talk to her
friend as if he were still alive. It responds to her questions using his own words.
Do you think this kind of interaction is creepy or comforting to someone who is grieving?

Is it disrespectful of the dead, especially if the dead person has not given their consent (see
Sisto, 2020)?

What if the friend had agreed to having their texts mashed up in this way in a
pre-death digital agreement? Would that be more socially acceptable?

Give it a Try: https://replika.com/

"Procrastination is like a credit card: it's a lot of fun until you get the bill."
— Christopher Parker

Imagine that it is getting late in the evening and you are sitting in front of your laptop. You have a report to complete by tomorrow morning, but you are not getting very far with it. You begin to panic and start biting your nails. 😬

You see several notifications flash up on your smartphone. 📱 You instantly abandon your report and cradle your smartphone to read them. One is a message from your mother, and the other is a text from your friend asking if you want to go out for a drink. 🍻 You reply immediately to both of them. Before you know it, you’re back on Instagram to see whether any of your friends have posted anything interesting lately. 📸

Your phone rings, and you see that it’s your dad calling. You answer it, and he asks if you have been watching the football game. You say that you are too busy working toward a deadline, and he tells you that your team has just scored. ⚽️ You chat with him for a while and then say you have to get back to work. You realize 30 minutes have passed, and you return your attention to your report. But before you realize it, you click your favorite sports site to check the latest score of the football game and discover that your team has just scored again. 🎉

Your phone starts buzzing. More new WhatsApp messages are waiting for you. And on it goes. You glance at the time on your laptop. It is midnight. You really are in a panic now and finally close everything down except your word processor. 🕛😱

Helpful or Unnerving? 🤔

Imagine a wearable technology that could detect how you were feeling and provide suggestions geared toward helping to improve your mood, especially if it detected that you were having a real downer of a day.

Would you find such a device helpful, or would
you find it unnerving that a machine was trying to cheer you up?

I've been hard at work on a new project this week. I'll share it with you all once it's finished. I'm using Vue.js and a fantastic free food API I found on the internet. Stay tuned for more updates! 🍽💻

Feel free to comment it if you need any changes!

When working on UI designs from Dribbble or other sites, one big problem I often face is figuring out which fonts and color palettes they’ve used. Without this information, it can be tough to recreate the design accurately.

If you’ve run into the same issue, you might find these two sites super helpful:

Image Color Picker for identifying color palettes
WhatTheFont for identifying fonts

Here are some screenshots of what I’ve been working on. 📸 I’ll send you the link soon. It's not a big project; I’m just practicing front-end development. I’ve been a back-end developer lately and haven't done much front-end work, but you know what? Development has changed a lot. There are so many libraries and tools now, and back-end work is increasingly being handled by these tools. 🔧💻

I think it’s a good idea to master at least one framework, don’t you? 🤔 Anyway, stay tuned, and you’ll see it soon! 🚀

By the way, don’t rely on YouTube videos for learning new technologies, especially frameworks and libraries. Many people try to find the most-watched videos with millions of views 😯, but they often struggle with the code because new versions are released frequently, and parts of the code are always being deprecated or changed. 🔄

Even within a few months, there can be significant differences. So, always look for the latest release comparison videos and search for the most recent videos, even if they have fewer views. 📹🔍

A guide to writing asynchronous JavaScript programs
Here's a simple guide to writing better code. It's not that hard, I promise! 😅

Just follow these three golden rules:
1. Keep your code shallow
2. Modularize 🧩
3. Handle every single error 🚫
