Many people have endured exactly that heartbreaking experience and still have serious, principled concerns about this legislation.
Lib Dems leader Ed Davey is one. Read his moving piece below.
He said: “I was nine when my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and 12 when they found secondary breast cancer in her bones… it’s precisely because of those years spent caring for Mum that I will be voting against it.
“As a liberal, I of course believe people should be free to make their own decisions about their lives. But I don’t think for many people that’s what we’d get under this new law. Instead, our focus should be on fixing the whole health and care crisis. So people get the care and control they deserve.”
