A temporary migrant detention center, nicknamed Alligator Alcatraz, will open at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, 45 miles west of Miami, in the Florida Everglades.

It will house up to 5,000 detainees starting early July 2025 as part of the Trump administration’s deportation efforts. Located in a remote swamp surrounded by alligators and pythons, the facility uses tents and trailers, with the natural environment serving as a security barrier.
