Firas Qudeih stands devastated beside the body of his brother Mohammad “Hammouda” Qudeih, killed along with five relatives in an Israeli artillery strike on their home’s rooftop in Abasan Town, east of Khan Younis. Their family had evacuated to a UN school but returned briefly to retrieve essential belongings before being shelled by Israel. Among the dead is their mother Suad. The home, belonging to displaced Palestinians, was targeted as they tried to resume a sliver of normalcy. “I swear I’m working day and night so you can travel, I swear!” Firas cries, mourning a brother he tried desperately to get out of Gaza. The funeral procession carried six bodies, and with them, another chapter in the Qudeih family’s long history of loss.

Satellite images obtained by Sanad News Verification Agency, part of Al Jazeera Network, show that Israeli forces surrounded five ambulances belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent and Civil Defense in Tal al-Sultan, Rafah on March 23, 2025. The vehicles were transporting 15 paramedics and rescue workers responding to the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike. The mission had been pre-coordinated with Israeli forces through the Red Cross. According to the latest statement by Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal, the vehicles were found bombed and completely destroyed during an inspection visit coordinated with UN's OCHA to the area on Friday, March 28. So far, only the body of Civil Defense chief Anwar Al-Attar has been recovered, while the other 14 personnel remain missing.
