I used to think only cleverer people can truly introspect or ‘self-analyse’ (that is to stop and assess the reasons for and validity of their own ideas & feelings).
Yet in politics you can really hamstring yourself through introspection, since you’ll typically be up against self-righteous arrogance, brooding resentment and radical ethnocentrism.
People like that never pause to reflect they just relentlessly plough on forward, utterly convinced of their own righteousness or victimhood.
So how clever is it really to stop and introspect when your enemy only ever pauses to sharpen its spears?
