Anyone remember the boundless tech optimism of the late nineties? Connect the world! We can exchange ideas and culture and all grow as humans!
Well, i get to enjoy watching Americans discuss how a knife is enough to defend yourself against your methhead family, and thats almost as good

Erin is moving more quickly westward (22mph) & should continue to strengthen, it’s still over a week out from any landfall. many of the models see the system bending significantly north after the weekend, potentially missing everyone 🌀

Last night I drove by a pretty bad car accident in the middle of an intersection and I realised there’s two different kinds of people.
The first kind are people who, when a traffic light is green just drive forward, focused entirely on themselves and wherever it is they’re going.
Green means go, they trust the system. Their mind is set on their destination and their next consumption, and the signs will lead the way. Variables in between don’t exist or cannot be processed.
The other kind are those who despite the light being green turn their heads as they proceed, to make sure drivers at other points of the intersection have actually stopped.
This may not seem that profound but it really is, because that second group is probably 5% of the population or less.
They don’t ‘trust the signs’ because they don’t need to. They rely instead on their intuitive grasp on how retarded everyone is, coupled with an ability to consider varying possibilities.
And you can’t ‘educate’ people into the second group, for reasons I don’t fully understand you’re either born into it or you’re a member of the herd.
