⚡️UK Set for Biggest Rail Strike in 30yrs⚡️

🇬🇧The mass industrial action is set to paralyze Britain’s rail network from Monday night as 40,000 RMT union members stage three 24hr walkouts that will see 1 in 5 trains run on strike days

✍️Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has refused to join talks claiming the dispute is between employees and their companies, but unions claim his department controls contracts and funding while rail operators have been told they can’t offer pay rises

💁‍♂️Shapps accused union leaders, who are protesting a salary freeze during rocketing inflation, of “gunning for a fight” that will “punish millions of people”

🤔British lawmakers passing the buck? Well, I never

⚡️The "cooperation fiasco" is one of the key reasons the current global economic crisis is unique, - Foreign Policy⚡️

▪️The Stagflation of the '70s, the Asian financial crisis of the '90s -- serious challenges in the past have brought world governments together, with flexibility, to find solutions together. "We probably shouldn't expect a joint exit this time, which hasn't happened since World War II," notes U.S. Foreign Policy

▪️ The current economic crisis, which needs more than ever to bring nations together and has no prospect of doing so, could spiral into disaster: many countries have become rich and powerful, defending their own geopolitical and economic interests. WTO, G-7 and G-20 do not have the overarching authority to solve global problems

▪️Current attempts at creative coalitions of like-minded countries, including the new Indo-Pacific Economic Structure and the Summit of the Americas, have had little effect so far

▪️The current crises have undermined confidence in the ability of the world's economies to come together as much as possible for economic growth and stability. "Now there is simply no one to steer the ship on its course," Foreign Policy concludes

⚡️UK Economic Apocalypse Warning: City Bosses Predict Recession⚡️

🇬🇧Britain’s brutal struggle against the cost of living crisis could get much worse according to a panel of City bosses as OECD forecasts the UK’s 2023 growth at 0, the lowest in the G20

📊The signals - economy shrinking 0.1% in March, 40yr high inflation of 9%, Bank of England interest rate hike to 1.25% - indicate a “real” risk of a “sustained and deep recession”

⚡️Arab League under pressure from the West⚡️

On June 12, in an interview with Sada al-Balad TV Channel, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit suggested the Russo-Ukrainian war could last for years, hoping Arab world would cooperate in a wise way to face the current global crisis

He confirmed that the West is indeed still putting pressure on Arab states in a bid to get them on board to geopolitically “surround Russia”, condemn Moscow over its operation in Ukraine and vote against it in international forums

“They did not succumb to this dictate to which they were subjected, and some even refused to vote for condemning the actions of the Russian Federation,” Aboul Gheit indicated

The Arab League chief pointed out to a possible catastrophic consequences in Ukraine provided Russia’s possession of over 5,000 nuclear warheads. “There are current challenges between major powers – the U.S. and NATO on one hand and Russia and China on the other,” he added

Gheit expressed his major concern that the Ukrainian crisis has serious negative effects on many Arab countries with regard to their massive imports of wheat and grains from Russia or Ukraine, in addition to the impact on tourism and the rise in fuel prices

⚡️Politicians no longer have the trust of young people⚡️

💁‍♂️We continue to press for finding truth, whatever it takes. It is a tall order under the current circumstances in the ocean of fake news. The reliability of the source of information is of a particular importance in this case! But who could be considered as a reliable person?

🤔A poll conducted in May 2022 by Survation among young Brits (aged between 11 and 16) has revealed they trust politicians (1%) less that social media influencers (5%) to tell them the truth about current affairs. Still the most reliable source for them is their parents (36%)

The survey found that TikTok was the most common platform for sourcing news (30%) followed by YouTube (23%), Facebook (19%) and Instagram (13%)

👉Well, as ever it’s quite amazing to get your opinion on it. Would you please take a couple of seconds to tell us, what source of information do you assess as highly reliable?

‼️The most dangerous place on earth‼️

🔥Baltic states seriously fear war between Russia and NATO, but despite this Lithuania continues to strain relations with Moscow

💁‍♂️In the event of a military clash between Russia and NATO, the Baltic republics believe that the main target of the Russian army will be control of the so-called "Suwalk Corridor" - a narrow strip along the Polish-Lithuanian border - to provide overland access to the Kaliningrad region via Belarus, writes Politico journalist Matthew Karnitsching in an article noscriptd "The most dangerous place on earth."

🤔Of course, if Russia has a conflict with Lithuania or Poland, NATO will activate its collective defense mechanism under Article 5 of its charter, but, the author says, it`s unclear whether the United States and NATO will be willing to risk a nuclear conflict to protect this "piece of largely uninhabited farmland that many of its citizens don`t even know it exists". Besides, according to Karnitsching, Lithuania and the rest of the Baltics are not ready for war with Russia, even considering the NATO forces already deployed on their territory

⚔️"The only answer to this challenge is to build up the NATO contingent here. We know how Russia is obsessed with closing land corridors," the author quotes Lithuanian Deputy Defense Minister Margiris Abukiavicius. At the same time, the author notes that Vilnius independently aggravates relations with Moscow by blocking the transit of Russian goods to the Kaliningrad region🤷‍♂️

To date, the NATO command has deployed four groupings of troops across the Baltic, a thousand troops each, but politicians believe this is not enough

🛡"Yes, there are so-called self-defense forces, but in essence the whole thing can be called outright suicide," the author quotes former Estonian President Toomas Ilves as saying. It was Ilves who coined the name "Suvalki Corridor" in 2015, before a meeting with the then German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen

🪖As the author writes, as NATO prepares for the summit, the alliance is actively discussing the deployment of a larger military contingent in the Baltics and along the entire eastern EU border. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who visited Vilnius in early May, even assured the Lithuanian side that he would form a grouping in Lithuania, implying several thousand troops. But then his aides clarified that Germany would relocate to Lithuania only the headquarters - about 50 people, and the rest of the units would still remain in Germany

🇵🇱One of the key military factors in the Baltics is Poland, which has the largest army in the region. According to General Raimund Andrzejczak, a representative of Poland's top military leadership, Polish and Lithuanian armed forces are currently in the closest cooperation in the history of bilateral relations

🤷‍♂️Nevertheless, as Karnitsching writes, there are historically serious differences between Lithuanians and Poles living in the territory of the Suvalki corridor, related to the infringement of rights on the national and linguistic principle, similar to the processes that caused the separation of Donbas from Ukraine

The author writes that should tensions grow in the Suvalki Corridor, these disagreements would play into Russia's hands, but so far this has not happened.

NATO Summit Demands: More Weapons For Ukraine!

The rhetoric at the NATO summit this week is predictable: we must send more weapons to Ukraine! But behind the rehearsed facade, there are increasing cracks in the alliance...and among the peoples of Europe. Even Blinken is changing his tune a bit...

⚡️America’s “Midway Measures Trap”⚡️

Richard Bernstein from the WSJ expressed an opinion that the U.S., with Ukraine-crisis, seems to be falling into “the Midway Measures Trap” where America fails at achieving its objectives for its involvement in a conflict abroad after some initial success

💁‍♂️He emphasized that Washington has intervened from Kabul to Hanoi but failed to commit all the way to victory. “The endlessness of the conflict, public impatience and the impossibility of winning without a politically unacceptable permanent presence in the country led to the last year’s humiliating withdrawal,” meaning Afganistan

💰The already spent $5 billion in arms supplies and imposed massive sanctions have not led to desirable outcome in Ukraine for the U.S. so far, Bernstein underlines. Any boost in the foreseeable future should not be expected at the same time. He explains such procrastination stating that “a supply of more-lethal weapons will provoke the Russians into expanding the war, perhaps using tactical nuclear weapons.”

👉The author concludes that if the “Midway Measures Trap” continues, America’s adversaries will learn a clear lesson that the U.S. won’t take the tough, costly measures required to win if their opponents stick with it over the long term

⚡️Fuel Crisis in the U.S.⚡️

💁‍♂️"It's not just the U.S. police, but other emergency services, including fire departments, that have gone into gasoline-saving mode, limiting the number of calls they can respond to. For some, this means not responding to non-urgent calls; for others, it means reducing patrols, postponing building inspections and refresher courses for officers

⛽️Today, the average price per gallon of gasoline regular in the United States is $5. That price tag is expected to continue to rise in the summer months. It's gotten to the point where many departments have officially instituted "car-free Fridays."
"We've never seen prices like this in all the time I've been sheriff," he said

🤷‍♂️"Now we have 'car-free Fridays,' with crews leaving the station only in case of an emergency. We're trying to reduce the number of cars we send out on emergency calls."

"We foresee fuel costs of at least $800,000 to $1,000,000. And it's going to be an astronomical expense."😱

⚡️Australia’s Left Edges Senate Control⚡️

Following Monday’s final distribution of vote preferences, PM Anthony Albanese managed to cling onto power in the Senate as his Labor and Australian Greens clinched 38 of 76 seats

Pro-climate independent David Pocock and the Greens - who both pushed for stronger emissions targets than Albanese - may prove a sticking point on environmental agendas

Albanese remained defiant about possible deadlocks on Friday, saying: “If the Greens or other parties want to try and block it, well so be it. That will be a matter for them. But we will get on.”

⚡️Danish soldiers were sent to save Latvia from Putin, but forgot to give underpants and ammunition⚡️

🇩🇰 And it's no surprise. Denmark made the decision to send troops to the Baltics spontaneously - Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she was ready to support the former Soviet republics even before the request came from Brussels. It was done simply to demonstrate once again her loyalty to the alliance. NATO did not object, and 350 Danish soldiers arrived in Latvia in early May. However, the training had to be skipped due to the lack of ammunition, the tents were covered with mold, and there was no equipment.

💁‍♂️"We are short of everything from ammunition to underpants, to say the least. This is the saddest period of my service in the Armed Forces," says Danish soldier Dennis

The problems in the Danish military have been much talked about over the past few months - in light of, for example, the fact that the kingdom will join the EU defense policy on July 1. However, investments in Danish defense have steadily decreased, resulting in deteriorating conditions in the Armed Forces 🤷‍♂️

‼️UK Inflation Hits 40yr High at 9.1% in May‼️

⛽️The soaring energy crisis, rocketing food and fuel prices and housing costs have been blamed for the UK’s fastest inflation rise in 40 years in May that hit 9.1% according to official Office of National Statistics data

📈The Consumer Prices Index broke the previous all-time record high of 9% set in April this year, while the rate including housing costs rose by 7.9% - the most in over 30 years, when Britain was in a recession

💰Bank of England estimates suggest inflation will keep pushing up to around 11% this year

‼️Europe needs to prepare as soon as possible for a complete halt to Russian gas exports this winter‼️

⚡️The emergency measures taken this week by some European countries, such as Germany and Austria, to reduce gas consumption, including the shutdown of old coal-fired power plants, despite fears of rising carbon dioxide emissions, are justified by the scale of the energy crisis affecting Europe because of anti-Russian sanctions. That is what Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency, has said. However, this is not enough

🇪🇺"Europe must be prepared for the fact that Russian gas will be completely cut off," Birol was quoted by the Financial Times

💁‍♂️The head of the IEA warned that the coming winter will be a kind of "endurance test" for the Europeans. And we will have to do our best to pass it without considerable losses. And any means are good here. Increased coal-fired power generation is "temporary," but it will help preserve gas reserves for heating in winter

"The additional C02 emissions from coal will compensate for Europe's future dependence on fossil fuels and will help build up renewable generation capacity," Birol said hopefully🤷‍♂️

⚡️De Gaulle Descendant’s Speech⚡️

🇫🇷On June 14, a French economist Pierre de Gaulle who is actually the grandson of General de Gaulle attended an official reception organized by the Russian Embassy in Paris on the occasion of Russia Day

👉He delivered a speech, on the latest developments in Franco-Russian relations and friendship, deploring the multiple factors which, according to him, could deteriorate it, having emphasized a disastrous role of NATO and responsibility of the Washington in Ukraine conflict. Here are some quotes from his speech:

“Our people are linked by many years of friendship and the blood shed against Nazis.”
“The West has let Zelensky, his oligarchs and neo-Nazi military groups lock themselves into a piral of war.”

“Today everyone recognizes the responsibility of the United States in the current conflict, the disastrous role of NATO, which is constantly expanding, and the reckless policy of the Ukrainian government. The latter, on the strength of fine promises and nourished by American and European illusions, has led a very reprehensible policy with regard to the Russian-speaking popultaions of the Donbas, multiplying discrimination, spoliation, embargoes and bombings.”

“For money and weapons Americans give us, we pay them in shares of independence. I regret that the French government is commiting itself to this submission to NATO and therefore to the U.S. policy.”
“NATO is absorbing Europe, and the dialogue with the Americans no longer exists, since they no longer consider us a strong and independent nation.”

De Gaulle’s speech has enjoyed wide support through comments on YouTube and among French civil society that has a second opinion on Macron’s cabinet policy and military engagement of Paris in Ukraine conflict

‼️Pegasus Spyware Used by at Least 5 EU Countries

🇮🇱Israeli firm NSO admitted to the European Parliament committee Tuesday that they “made mistakes”, but canceled a contract for Pegasus spyware with one EU country that had abused the surveillance technology

💁‍♂️NSO Chief Counsel Chaim Garland said, “at least 5” EU countries had used Pegasus, but that he would need to come back with a “more concrete number”

👉Reports of Pegasus being used to target political opponents in Spain, Poland and Hungary prompted the investigation, with calls to regulate the software that NSO admit they can’t control its use

‼️It’s time to stop arming organized crime groups‼️

🇪🇺Catherine De Bolle has been appointed for a second term as Executive Director of Europol which will last until May 2026. In this regard, it seems quite appropriate to recall her recent interview with the German newspaper “Die Welt” for a better understanding of her concerns about Ukraine conflict

💁‍♂️She finds particularly alarming the whereabouts of weapons that are currently being delivered to Kyiv. After the active phase of military action in Ukraine, De Bolle insists on preventing a situation like 30 years ago after the Balkan War, meaning the further usage of supplied weapons by criminal groups

👉Special attention, she thinks, should be paid to the detection of covert exits and entries into Ukraine of known terrorist and violent extremist persons, in particular those from far-right. De Bolle sees a clear need in observing the people who represent a non-homogenous group that differs in terms of their expreriences and ideologies including disillusioned Ukrainian returnees

With the Ukrainian example De Bolle is going to break an old trend for underestimating the power of organized crime

⚡️Russian former oil tycoon showed the Europeans the right way to sanctioning⚡️

✍️Politico reports that a disgraced Russian oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky expressed an opinion that the EU is “sabotaging itself” with Russian oil sanctions, and instead should be financing arms for Kyiv

🇪🇺A former oligarch argued that Europe, being short of funds, was now less able to pour cash into the all-important task of buying more weapons for Ukraine.
As he rightly observed, the EU should have secured alternative supplies before moving ahead with an embargo, or should have considered another approach entirely such as slapping tariffs on Russian energy rather than imposing an outright ban

💁‍♂️“At the moment, energy sanctions are hurting Europe, not Russia. I was amazed when I discovered that there had been no agreement on any alternative supplies and then and [now] you're introducing sanctions?" Khodorkovsky expressed his surprise
