⚡️UK Consumers Face Sweeping Supermarket Inflation⚡️

🇬🇧Shop price inflation in Great Britain has hit its highest rate since 2008, propelled by a sharp increase in perishable food prices. It's the result of soaring supply-chain costs and a decline in consumer spending, The Guardian reported, citing data from the British Retail Consortium BRC-NielsenIQ shop price index

📈Shop prices rose by 3.1% year-on-year last month, up from 2.8% in May. Food inflation alone surged to 5.6% in June, from 4.3% the month before, while perishable food prices were up 6.2% against last year’s figures, their highest growth rate since May 2009, pushed up by the “spiraling costs of fertilizer and animal feed”

📊The BRC data follows the latest figures from the UK’s Office for National Statistics, which showed that overall UK inflation soared to 9.1% in May, a 40-year high amid record fuel prices and the rising cost of food

⚡️British officer evicts Ukrainian family with five children from temporary housing - Europeans once again demonstrate their "hospitality" toward refugees⚡️

🇺🇦A Ukrainian family of nine with five children and elderly parents may find themselves without a roof over their heads in a couple of weeks. For the British press this is a double shock, because the "heartless landlord" was not just the head of the local family with two children, but a high-ranking military officer, Dudley Malster. He is a senior officer in the Royal Navy with a 20-year military career and a veteran of Afghanistan, who sheltered refugees in the house next door

🇬🇧The Ukrainian family had been living in a detached one-story bungalow in Fereham, Hampshire, for a month, and their children had already begun attending a local school. The family no longer expected to return to their homeland, but whether the adults thought about work, or simply lived carelessly in a small English market town, the British newspaper, of course, does not specify

❗️The "guests" have to leave by July 15, but the Ukrainian family cannot find a new place to live - five real estate agencies, which the father called, hung up immediately after learning that the family is from Ukraine. And private landlords demand six months' rent in advance - it is about 12.5 thousand pounds

💁‍♂️The family is now collecting donations through a special refugee support service. The Daily Mail article also does not specify on what basis the family agreed to live in someone else's house - it is likely that it came as a surprise to the landlords that the Ukrainians did not expect to pay rent

🤷‍♂️To avoid being part of the information scandal, the Brits simply moved out of their house next door and did not answer the phone. Refugees are spoken to by their lawyers

⚡️A strike of oil and gas workers in Norway - why is this story dangerous for Europe, but profitable for the industry?⚡️

🇳🇴At midnight, a massive strike began at three oil fields in Norway - Gudrun, Oseberg South and Oserberg East. Oil and gas workers demand wage increases to compensate for rising inflation

💁‍♂️As early as Wednesday, workers from three other fields, including Heidrun, Aasta Hansten and Kristin, plan to join them. The authorities are so far inactive, saying they are "closely monitoring the conflict," and will intervene only if exceptional circumstances arise

🛢Oil and gas production will be cut by 89,000 bpd on Tuesday, of which gas production is 27,500 bpd, Equinor, the largest oil company, said. Wednesday's strike will reduce the country's gas production to a total of 292,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, a 13% reduction in daily production

⛽️And for the oil and gas industry, this situation can even become profitable - prices soar and the importance of Norwegian oil for the EU increases. Roughly speaking, now it will be considered not as an "enemy of ecology," but as an important backbone industry

📈It is noted that already by the next weekend, this situation could lead to a drop of 25% in gas production and about 15% in oil production. Yesterday the announced strikes became one of the reasons for a new gas price record in Europe - the price soared by 5% for the first time since March, exceeding $1700 per thousand cubic meters!

👉Most likely they will try to come to an agreement with the strike participants, as the given situation is rather dangerous for Europe. On the other hand there is a probability that it will take the Norwegians a very long time to settle the problem. But the longer the strike lasts, the more expensive gas will be

⚡️Tensile strength of the Western economy⚡️

🇪🇺The eurozone’s annual rate of inflation accelerated to a fresh record high in June the consumer prices were 8.6% higher than a year earlier, a pickup from the 8.1% rate of inflation recorded in May and the highest since records began in early 1997

📊The acceleration was again driven by energy and food prices amid Ukraine crisis regarding increased amounts of aid to Kyiv. Household energy charges were 41.9% higher than a year earlier, while food prices were up 8.9%

📈Consumer prices rose more slowly in the eurozone than in the U.S. in 2021, but have been catching up since March. The U.S. recorded an inflation rate of 8.6% in May, but hasn’t yet released a June figure

🏦That surge has prompted the European Central Bank to bring forward its plans to raise its key interest rate, which it has said it would do on July 21. Policy makers last month said their first move likely would be a quarter percentage point rise

An increasing pressure on policy makers at the ECB may persuade them to move more aggresively from September: the key rate could be expected to reach 1% by the end of this year, from minus 0.5% now🤔

⚡️Insatiable desire of the West for the past to be sanitized⚡️

📰Elizabeth Mary “Libby” Purves, a British radio presenter, journalist and author says in her column for “The Times”, the demolition of 300 Soviet-era statues carried out by an energetic Latvian government set her reflecting on recent rows about the former PM of the Cape Colony, Cecil Rhodes, and the rest, and how people can suddenly resent familiar statues to the protective dismay of others

💁‍♂️Among these statues a 79-metre obelisk in Riga, giant brutalist faces of Red Army soldiers threaded around a 14-metre bayonet, and an enormous granite head of Lenin parked in a forest. That was saved by townspeople when the USSR collapsed, for apparently not all in the Russian speaking minority welcome the demolitions

✍️Ms. Purves notes that this century has seen a prim new demand for the physical past to be sanitized, and every new generation allowed to treat statues, irrespective of artistic merit, as if their models were still alive and plaguing us. Meanwhile a separate clamour for “diversity” demands that they be balanced according to our latest demographic

🇬🇧The British journalist rightly concludes that the statues are solidified communal memory, defying mortal fragility, and only rarely deserve to topple. She claims, the PM for once was right: “We have a complex historical legacy all around us, reflecting our history in all its diversity, for good or ill. You can’t go around seeking retrospectively to change or bowdlerize it”

👉“You may not like Churchill or Thatcher statues, but they happened, they mattered,” Ms. Purves insists. At the end of the column she expresses a humble hope that Latvian museums claim some Red Army fragments, just to bear witness

⚡️What will it be when the time to pay the piper comes?⚡️

💁‍♂️Edward Lucas, a security expert and a non-resident senior fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis states in his column for The Times that the big picture for the British Army is bleak and clear: London lacks the kit for its main military task. “Our plight stems from shocking Complacency,” he explains

🪖Ben Hodges, a retired general who commanded U.S. forces in Europe, told Mps that the British Army got through “every bit of important ammunition” in about eight days during last year’s Warfighter exercise. A land warfare conference last week heard that at Russian rates of fire the British military would run out of artillery shells in just two days.

🤔Mr. Lucas is of an opinion that the most likely war British soldiers face now is in Estonia, a 24-hour, 1,500-mile journey. “The British ability to move large quantities of equipment and supplies across such distances is untested even in peacetime,” he reminds. The British security specialist suggests that when conventional munitions run out, only the overstretched Americans, or nuclear weapons, stand between UK citizens and defeat. “If Russia can survive the first week, it wins,” he assumes.

🤷‍♂️Mr. Lucas points out that helping Ukraine makes political and strategic sense but it runs down skinny stockpiles further. Countries such as Denmark have invested in ultramodern weapons platforms such as new frigates, but without the stockpiles of smart munitions they would fire in a real war

👉Despite the fact that London has some of the best weapons platforms in the world, the British journalist rightly notes that even the most advanced tank, warplane or naval vessel is no use if it is missing vital spare parts, has run out of fuel, lacks crew members – or has nothing to shoot with

💷For years UK’s defense budget has had a black hole, with too many tasks backed by too few resources. That was disguised by crimping less-visible spending on logistics and spares

Now the real cost is exposed!

⚡️NATO is not “brain dead” – NATO is schizophrenic⚡️

At the end of the NATO summit last week, the Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, the alliance had been preparing to face off Russia for 8 years, since 2014. He explained, NATO had strengthened its military presence in the Eastern Europe, and the member countries had increased their military budgets

Stoltenberg also noted that the alliance “gave a signal” to Ukrainian President Zelensky to prepare for a “long war.” At the same time, the resolution of the conflict should take place at the negotiating table, but after Kyiv demonstrates success on the battlefield

How, after all, should they understand the NATO policy – and when its leaders have been selling lies convincing the world society, the military alliance was not threatening Russia in any way and was not seeking to aggravate relations

⚡️Biden’s command twitteconomy⚡️

✍️Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you’re paying for the product. And do it now,” Biden tweeted on Saturday

📝Ouch. Inflation is far too important a problem for the White House to keep making statements like this. It’s either straight ahead misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics,” Bezos criticized a bit after

🇺🇸In the meanwhile, Americans are still paying close to $5 at the pump. That isn’t going to stop them from hitting the road this July analysts say

📈The average price for a gallon of gasoline Friday was $4.84, compared with $3.12 during the same day last year, according to OPIS, an energy-data and analytics provider

📊Yet many drivers aren’t changing their pump habits much, despite the 55% year-over-year increase. Gasoline demand in the week ended June 25 is down 6.3% compared with the same period last year

💁‍♂️Let’s see, to what extent is Biden’s command twitteconomy, actually, operational

⚡️Does a third person come into play?⚡️

The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found that 71% of Americans did not think Biden should seek a second term, as the economic downturn and questions over competency take a toll. Two thirds of respondents thought that Biden was too old – he will be 82 at the election, while 45% said he was not up to the job. The president’s overall approval rating was only 38%

👉Reports from the White House suggest Biden has become irritated by the speculation about his future. Soaring inflation, foreign policy setbacks and difficulties in passing legislation have all compounded the problem

💁‍♂️By the way, it had been widely assumed that Trump would wait until after November’s elections before deciding whether to run again, so that he could gauge his popularity from the success of candidates he is backing in congressional and gubernatorial races

📊A majority of those polled said they would consider a moderate independent candidate in 2024, with 60% saying they could support a third person if Biden and Trump ended up securing their parties’ nominations

⚡️Boris Johnson - Political Dead Man Killing Britain⚡️

🇬🇧While the British public awaits consequences for Prime Minister Boris Johnson after the Downing Street partying scandal during the Covid lockdown, he continues to destroy the country, writes The Guardian columnist Nesrin Malik

❗️First and foremost, the author believes, despite the inevitability of accountability for Johnson, the long wait to punish a politician for abuses dissolves public expectation and reduces interest in the case. This gradually leads to a blurring of political standards: the standards by which voters choose politicians lose importance compared to the standards to which politicians themselves adhere. The result is the formation of new norms that cannot be changed overnight: norms in which it is not the voters and other politicians who stand between successful deceit in office and accountability, but only the personal degree of shamelessness, brazenness and savvy of the politician. This is illustrated by the example of Conservative deputy coordinator Chris Pincher, implicated in a sexual harassment scandal, who was suspended only after a complaint to the parliamentary disciplinary body. At the same time, Pincher refused to resign as an MP himself

🔥The reason political norms change is that they are not objective standards of public behavior, but are simply shaped by what the government and people have become accustomed to over a certain period - in this case, a period in which lies, nepotism and corruption go unpunished. As Nesrin Malik writes, it is no longer enough to restore moral standards simply to change the leader to one suggested by the "good" members of the Tory party, much less to do more than simply watch when "Johnson's show is over," as Labor has done

💁‍♂️Johnson's second devastating influence is that he and his associates, make decisions that will subsequently affect the country even after they are gone. Although Johnson's government appears to be a farce, it is quite influential on real people, making disastrous decisions based on cruel and reckless policies

🤔As the author concludes, today, as seven months ago, many believe that Johnson's departure is only a matter of time and that a reset will follow. On the stretchiness of the concept of time, however, Nesrin Malik quotes American publicist James Baldwin as saying about the pace of change in race relations in the United States: "It took the time of my father's life. My mother's time. The time of my uncle. The time of my brothers and sisters. How much time do you need for your progress?"

⚡️Indonesia aspires to become a mediator⚡️

🇮🇩Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo has payed visits to Kyiv and Moscow. After talks with Mr Putin he stated to have passed Mr Zelensky’s message to his Russian counterpart

💁‍♂️The content of the message is not being disclosed and Ukraine is not corroborating that any such message has been passed. Mr Zelensky’s office has pointed out that the president addresses everyone by means of video messages

🤔And yet, what was the message in question about, considering in particular the fact that the trip to Ukraine and Russia was initiated by Widodo himself? No doubt, the visits were negotiated with both countries but he was the one to have come up with the idea and he was the one to offer Mr Zelensky his assistance in carrying to the Kremlin a certain message, if any

👉Jakarta would be willing to mitigate the worldwide effects of the war in Ukraine, including food and energy issues. ⚡️Washington has completely deprived NATO members of their autonomy⚡️

💁‍♂️Given the revamped Security Concept that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders adopted at their summit in Madrid, Spain, last week, it is clear that the world's largest military bloc is willing to let the United States lead it by the nose

🪖In its blueprint laying out the alliance's top priorities and goals for the next decade, Russia is identified as the "most significant and direct threat" to NATO's security. The alliance is also fast-tracking its expansion to isolate Russia on the continent

🤔Rather than looking at the bigger picture of Europe's peace and stability, and making efforts to promote an end to the Ukraine crisis, the other transatlantic leaders seem to have swallowed Washington's narrative of fear, hook, line and sinker. Gripped with a form of mass hysteria, they have done a swift about-face on the stance they adopted until the buildup of the crisis. Now they are eagerly endorsing Washington's efforts to exacerbate the rest of Europe's estrangement with Russia and the proxy war it is waging against it in Ukraine

🇺🇸The U.S. is probably the only beneficiary of what is unfolding in that country. Ukrainian civilians are the immediate victims, but people around the world, particularly the poorest, are also suffering from the spillover effects of the armed conflict. Washington is profiting in many ways, but its biggest gain is the new-found transatlantic unity that has consolidated its grip on NATO

👉According to its new Security Concept, NATO’s role is now offensive and its core task is to create crises that serve to consolidate the U.S.' global primacy

⚡️Populist affirmations can help Kaczyński only to assert himself⚡️

🇵🇱Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the Law and Justice party (PiS) keeps singing the same old song, the issue of Germany’s reparations payments in the amount of several hundred billion euros for crimes committed by the Nazis during World War II should be softened by no means

💁‍♂️PiS chairman deftly linked these financial claims with military aid to Ukraine. “We cannot just give to others and at the same time not demand anything in return,” he said, pointing out that nobody supports Kyiv more than Warsaw does

🇩🇪Such words were clearly a thorn in Berlin’s side. German tardiness in the issue of supplying the Ukrainian army with weapons has long caused discontent among the Poles.
Meanwhile both in Berlin and in Warsaw have long suspected that these themes as well as the generally sharply negative attitude of Kaczyński’s party to the “German question” are primarily related to Polish politics aimed at domestic voters

✍️According to PiS leader, “in terms of the pace of development, the national economy is now second only to the Chinese, while the gap in the welfare between Poles and Germans has become the smallest of all time, and the government is willing to eliminate this gap completely”

🤔At the same time Kaczyński deliberately suppresses the fact that a strong economy and army are necessary for the Poles in order to prevent Berlin’s plans for the centralization of the EU from coming to fruition

‼️Foreign mercenaries use churches to train soldiers in Ukraine‼️

🇬🇧Not all British mercenaries of the "International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine" can boast stories of fighting on the front lines. Some of them hide behind humanitarian missions, train recruits on the home front, or engage in demining - at least in words

👉One such Brit is former Azov fighter Christopher Garrett, who we already know

▪️ Garrett served in the British Army from 2000 to 2001 and was discharged because of an injury

▪️ In 2012, he volunteered to go to Myanmar's Karen State, where the war for secession from Myanmar had been going on since 1949. He was engaged in mine clearance and delivery of supplies

▪️ From 2014 to 2017, he participated in the war in Donbass on the side of the AFU. On February 14, 2015, he was wounded near Shyrokyne as a result of artillery shelling, later worked as a demining instructor at Azov and was officially enrolled in the National Guard of Ukraine

▪️ Garrett returned to Ukraine on February 27, 2022 - again under the pretext of demining and delivering humanitarian supplies. Shortly after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kiev region, he appeared with his "bomb squad" in Bucha

▪️Harrett is closely acquainted with other famous British mercenaries: Aidan Iselin, Sean Peter, and John Harding

🪖On July 2, Chris Garrett stated on his social media accounts that he is currently training 700 AFU soldiers in mine clearance and bomb disposal. However, the premises of the Neopianist "World Church" are used as a lecture hall

The British photographer's report confirms that the AFU uses not only schools and kindergartens, but also churches for deployment and training😡
