⚡️Scientific research and academic freedom under threat⚡️
💁♂️“We urge the U.S. Government to withdraw unilateral sanctions, which discriminates against professionals and scholars from countries under sanctions,” UN human rights experts* stated
👉“We are gravely concerned at the growing negative impact of existing sanctions regimes on academic and scientific research, as well as on initiatives of international academic cooperation, adversely affecting the participation of scholars and academics from sanctioned countries” they said
🇺🇳“Scientific and academic research and the dissemination of its findings should not be conditioned by decisions other than those based entirely on scientific and academic considerations. They should not be contingent upon political decisions and enforcement of sanction regimes against countries and their nationals” the UN experts concluded
🤔The experts have communicated their concerns to the U.S. Government and to several publishing companies, to seek clarifications on this matter, and are yet to receive a response

⚡️The UK dives deep into recession⚡️
🇬🇧Britain will plunge into recession before the end of this year and the economy will keep contracting throughout 2023, Goldman Sachs has warned
📉The sharp downgrade on its previous predictions came alongside news that the number of high street stores closing continues to increase and that manufacturing insolvencies are soaring. In a research note, the investment bank said it believed that by the year’s end the economy will have shrunk for two consecutive quarters, the formal definition of a recession
📊Worse, the bank has flipped its previous estimates that the economy will grow by 1.1% next year and instead is forecasting that it will contract by 0.6% through the whole year
💁♂️“The level of inflation we’re seeing at the moment can be lethal for manufacturers, especially energy costs,” Julien Irving, a partner at Mazars, a leading international audit, tax and advisory firm, said

⚡️EU: 3 days of Nord Stream maintenance is a warm-up on the eve of 5 to 10 years of hardship⚡️
🇷🇺Russia has shut its key Nord Stream natural-gas pipeline for maintenance, leaving Europe face to face with its own sanction policies guessing again about whether supplies will restart, as temperatures fall and demand for the fuel grows
💁♂️Many experts think pipeline gas from other regions and LNG from farther afield won’t be enough, condemning Europe to years of high energy prices that will dent consumers’ budgets, drive energy-intensive companies out of business, and deplete public coffers as governments seek to soften the blow on society
🇪🇺Europe must brace for 5 to 10 years of hardship, says Alexander de Croo, the prime minister of Belgium, one of Europe’s major LNG importers. Faraway gas producers such as Qatar or the U.S. need at least two years to increase production to meet surging European demand

⚡️Unilateral sanctions are destroying U.S. global leadership⚡️
▪️The political elite in Washington, whichever party it represents, is no longer interested in expanding the international trade system and mobilizing political support through the United Nations, let alone expanding relations with Russia and China, states the American The National Interest
▪️ Instead, Washington is trying to impose, in its own words, "a rules-based international order." The term is attractive because of its arbitrariness: Washington is free to set the rules of the game in a remarkably selective and lopsided way. Sanctions are at the heart of this new, still evolving order, and Washington is resorting to them with increasing frequency
▪️American sanctions are designed to isolate, punish or coerce acquiescence. American interests are at stake, and there can only be one winner in this game. From the fact that sanctions have become Washington's favorite tool, it follows that American policymakers are convinced that the best way to strengthen U.S. global leadership is to continue to pursue policies that many countries consider unilateral coercion
▪️America is brutally imposing its power because it doubts it can set an example of a healthy democracy and a fair and just economy. The U.S. cannot claim world leadership in the twenty-first century by narrowing its circle of allies instead of expanding it, and crippling the world economy with an ever-expanding set of sanctions that do not care who is enemy and who is friend

⚡️A Bad Peace is better than a Good War⚡️
💁♂️As we suggested earlier, Western arms supplies to Ukraine, including high-precision systems that require control by the Western military, may be assessed in a completely different way in Moscow
👉Such skating on thin ice, obviously, will not be able to last forever. Faced with a stronger NATO, which will soon add Sweden and Finland as members, Russia will be forced to spend ever more on its military, as Foreign Affairs magazine mentions. The U.S. and its NATO allies claim that preventing any sort of escalation that would result in a direct conflict between the Alliance and Russia has always remained their top priority.
🤔Yet both Russia and NATO are continually testing each other’s redlines. The West has grown progressively bolder and more involved in the conflict, supplying critical intelligence that the Ukrainians have used to attack Russian ships and other strategic targets. NATO allies have also given Ukraine advanced weaponry, such as High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, which the Ukrainian military is using to inflict serious damage on Russian ammunition depots and bases far behind the frontlines
🔥This is already too much, but one reckless maneuver will be enough! Direct engagement by the allied forces in the skies, on the ground, or in the Black Sea near Ukraine could result in the death or injury of NATO personnel. This outcome would provoke a response from the bloc, potentially setting off a cycle of escalation that, in the worst-case scenario, could culminate in a nuclear conflict. Such a scenario must be avoided at all costs

⚡️Warsaw leads the game to raise rates. Berlin defends⚡️
💁♂️"Today, in the Royal Palace in Warsaw, we make the decision and finally announce that Poland will apply for war reparations, reparations for everything that the Germans did in Poland in the years 1939 to 1945," said Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice right-wing populist and national-conservative ruling party, on the 83rd anniversary of the German invasion
👉The claims amount to an immense sum. An expert report says the war damage is estimated at the sum of 6.2 trillion złoty (1.32 trillion euros)! Hundreds-of-pages long document includes calculations on Polish war losses in terms of demographics, economic damage caused by the death of people and material losses, as well as the loss of cultural and artistic goods, financial and bank resources and papers
🇩🇪Germany sees no justification for Polish reparations claims. "The reparations issue is closed. Poland already renounced further reparations in 1953 and confirmed this renunciation several times. This is an essential basis for the current order of Europe, "said a spokesman for the German Foreign Office
🤔According to people familiar with the matter, in this way Poland is trying to chase to rabbits at once: to "punish" Berlin for its once too strong ties with Moscow, especially in the energy sector, and to "monetize" political pressure on the EU’s main driving force amid global crisis

⚡️ECB fears recession, faces uncertainties⚡️
📈High inflation rates could linger even if energy and food prices stabilize. The ECB aims to keep inflation at 2% over the medium term. Eurozone inflation is likely to rise toward 10% over the coming months, analysts say, as some government energy and public-transport subsidies expire, especially in Germany, and companies pass on higher costs to customers
🇪🇺The ECB faces unique challenges because the prospect of rate rises has already led to larger increases in Italian bond yields than those of their German counterparts. Adding to the uncertainty, Italians are set to vote in national elections next month, and opinion polls suggest that the far-right, populist Brothers of Italy party could emerge as the strongest force🤔

‼️Cost of saying NO to FBI‼️
👉Since the 9/11 attacks, the FBI has dedicated huge resources to recruiting informants, particularly targeting Muslim Americans or immigrants from Muslim-majority countries
💁♂️Aswad Khan, Northeastern University in Boston graduate from Pakistan, was 26 years old when the FBI knocked on his family’s door in Connecticut the morning of February 9, 2012. Intelligence officers tried to recruit him to spy on mosques, vowing provide him with U.S. citizenship, money, and other perks, but he wouldn’t spy on people in prayer. That’s when Khan’s life was turned upside down
🔥For Khan – and his circles – the trouble began almost immediately after he arrived in Pakistan, weeks after his last meeting with the FBI and assistant U.S. attorney. Because of the secrecy of the process, Khan has no evidence that anyone else put him on a watchlist. But soon after he returned to Pakistan his friends started having problems at the U.S. border and Khan’s name kept coming up
🤔Since Khan’s encounter with the FBI, more than a dozen of his friends have told him about serious problems when traveling to the U.S.: They’ve been questioned about him and have even been told by CBP agents to keep their distance from Khan if they wanted to avoid trouble. Slowly but surely, Khan’s reputation was destroyed by scrutiny from U.S. authorities, particularly by what he and his attorneys believe is his placement on the terror watchlist.
📰In late 2016, The Intercept reported on a cache of documents provided by an FBI whistleblower revealing how U.S. national security agencies use the immigration system and border crossings to gather intelligence and recruit informants. The result was a culture of racism and malice, with agents pressuring individuals into spying on their communities and frequently destroying the lives of innocent people in the process
👉Disclosures in a lawsuit from 2017 established that the government’s terrorist watchlist had grown to 1.2 million people, the vast majority of whom were neither U.S. citizens nor permanent residents. As it could be seen, American intelligence services neglect basic democratic principles and deliberately abuse the power to intimidate and exert State pressure to establish total control and surveillance, including over non-citizens

‼️Coordinated action of the West brings global famine even closer‼️
🔥Millions of people struggling for food every day are seeing their hopes dimmed by soaring grain prices and tight supplies amid the impact of climate change and Western sanctions on Russia. A record 345 million people in 82 countries face acute food insecurity, the United Nations' World Food Programme said
📉Up to 50 million people in 45 countries are on the brink of famine and risk being tipped over the edge if humanitarian support fails to come. Among them, about 900,000 people are already facing catastrophic famine or famine-like conditions in parts of Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen
💁♂️Worse yet, the WFP is finding higher costs and more difficulties distributing wheat, wheat flour, vegetable oil, peas and corn to the needy due to supply chain problems caused by US-led sanctions on Russia in response to the Ukraine crisis
❗️David Beasley, executive director of the WFP, said it will take more than grain ships out of Ukraine to stop world hunger. Even before the Ukraine crisis struck, the world was already facing an unprecedented, perfect storm because of regional conflicts, climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic
📊Between 2018 and 2021, the number of people in crisis who live in countries where conflict was the main driver of acute food insecurity surged by 88% to over 139 million. Referring to the main cause for such catastrophic developments, experts accuse the West of deliberate creation of escalation zones and provoking military clashes in these countries, which put population of whole regions on the verge of extinction
