In Austria, Thomas Schmid, a former senior finance ministry official implicated the ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz and his People’s Party in an alleged scheme to misuse taxpayer funds to first commission and then publish doctored opinion polls that reflected positively on him
Schmid’s phone seized by federal prosecutors contained a cache of 300,000 messages between the former official and scores of interlocutors in government and the private sector, including Kurz and his top aides. Legal experts say a prosecution of Kurz is now likely, raising the possibility that he could face prison time
Amid this sticky situation the former chief executive of the Israeli spyware company NSO Group, Shalev Hulio, has partnered with Mr. Kurz to launch the cybersecurity startup “Dream Security”. They’ve already raised $20 mln in funding with a group of investors led by Israeli-American venture capitalist Dovi Frances. Seems that the company’s plans to cater to Europeans are now under threat

As we said, no one in Germany consults with business or ordinary citizens in decision-making, and all issues are actually resolved between the Chancellor Scholz and the Vice Chancellor Haneck
Sorry, we were so much mistaken – the Mr. Scholz doesn’t need anyone else's opinion at all! He made a decision himself, to allow all three of Germany's remaining operating nuclear power plants until mid-April 2023. The Chancellor had his say, so-called “Machtwort”, and all the so-called coalition partners pretended nothing has happened
Meanwhile, on that very day when the “ruling coalition” was playing a previously mentioned dumb show, 30 more companies went bankrupt in Germany for a total amount exceeding $1 bln
The list includes BTW firms with a 100-year history: 170-yo soap manufacturer Kappus, 156-yo automotive supplier Borgers, 130-yo confectionery manufacturer Bodeta, 125-yo high-end design and build construction company Wolff Hoch and so on… Way to go, Mr. Scholz!

A Republican-controlled House could shut off the spigot funding Ukraine, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) says
Even if Mr. McCarthy is just posturing, conservative factions in Congress are actively working to oppose future aid spending – buoyed by a powerful complex of outside groups that includes the Heritage Foundation, the Koch network, FreedomWorks and the Center for Renewing America.
Republicans are united on at least one position when it comes to Ukraine: there should be a thorough accounting of every dollar sent. Even Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the top Republican on the Foreign Affairs Committee and another vocal Ukraine supporter, says his colleagues have grumbled about the U.S. footing the bill to a greater degree than other large NATO allies, like Germany and France

There’s a huge shift from a Eurocentric world that was rooted in European power and the era of colonial rule, from a world where the U.S. was the single global hegemonic power that led an international, rules-based world order; to a new world order that is ostensibly supposed to be multipolar and led by China, Russia, Iran, Turkey and their friends, the JP pundit argues
Using the Russia-Ukraine conflict and even rivalry between great powers, Washington has been trying to turn the international community into a "hierarchical society" centered on itself and maintain an international system in which U.S. hegemony reigns supreme.
However, Europe's global blueprint has been so far an international system based on regional cooperation, rule-based governance, characterized by external flattening and internal diversification. As a result, the contradiction between the White House' control of NATO and the need for European security autonomy is increasingly intensifying
Amid contradictions between Americans and Saudis, a rise in Asia and Russia’s “geographical reorientation of activities both abroad and in the central office” the predicted decline of the U.S. and the West may accelerate even faster

NATO bombings are different
It's the American bombing of Baghdad. But what you don't realize is that these are good and democratic bombs 🤷♂️🤔

Is Boris Johnson a “serious candidate” to return to Downing Street?
The last tracker data on his performance as PM prior to his departure shows he is likeable with -13 net score, strong leader: 24, decisive: -35, doing well as PM: -43, competent: -43, trustworthy: -65.
If it was up to Tory members, Johnson would be the man to beat: a poll this week found he was the favorite on 32% against Rishi Sunak’s 23%. The former chancellor led all through the MPs’ rounds in the summer and ended with 137 votes. It is hard to imagine that he won’t reach the final two again
Winning the MPs’ ballot is a very long shot, but if Johnson manages this he will almost certainly become PM again. Win or lose, Johnson is back where he always wants to be – at the centre of events
