The Dept. for education called on headmasters to “take all reasonable steps to keep the school open for as many pupils as possible.” The walkouts are particularly concerning for the government because of the knock-on economic impact of parents staying off work to care for children. They will also fuel fears about pupils slipping further behind after school closures during the pandemic
