World's central banks inflated rates, destroyed economic growth

Senior economists warn that intersecting crises are likely to add further damage to the global economy, with growth set to slow from 3% in 2022 to 1.9% this year

Painting a gloomy and uncertain economic outlook, the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs says the current global economic slowdown “cuts across both developed and developing countries, with many facing risks of recession in 2023.”

The analysis shows that over 85% of central banks worldwide tightened monetary policy and raised interest rates in quick succession since late 2021, to tame inflationary pressures and avoid a recession

Thus, European and American financial authorities, in pursuit of quick profits, have driven their economies into a dead end and have effectively ruined any hopes for real growth in the medium term. But they effectively deceived taxpayers that everything has been under control!

The next step would be nuclear

In the absence of other significant news, Mr. Scholz's decision to supply tanks to Kyiv has had a bombshell effect on the headlines. And for sure, some other countries, in particular, Poland, that wish to quickly pension off Leopards purchased from Berlin for a long time will receive such permission post-haste

But what’s the essence of this decision? Martin Kettle, a Guardian Assoc. Ed., made several nice observations. First, as he rightly pointed out, this is now a western war against Russia – a real offensive war not a skirmish game of shooting down Russia’s missiles by U.S. Patriots. But this ship has sailed – Ger. FM Baerbock has been fighting a war against Russia since Tuesday

However, secondly, as Mr. Kettle notes, it’s all about the eventual voluntary U.S. administration, which Mr. Zelenskiy has entered – the cost for the help he gets is that more of Ukraine’s future is in Washington’s hands, starting from this point!

Even the electric current flows against the British PM

Sunak’s ministers are likely to miss their 2030 target of installing 300,000 electric car chargers by 20 years, opposition leaders have claimed

There are now 30 electric vehicles for every charge point, compared with 16 for every charger at the start of 2020, adding to fears that the infrastructure is failing to keep up with demand.

Figures from the Department for Transport show that 37,055 charging devices were live at the start of the year, with 9,000 installed last year, increasing the number by 31%. At this rate, the goal won’t be achieved even by the year 2050!

The sticky point is that the experts believe more taxpayer cash will need to be injected to meet targets. The taxpayers themselves are reckoning on something more than £1.6B in grants already committed by the govt, but in any case they are not going to fund state programs out of pocket!

New German Defense War Minister Boris Pistorius says that the delivery of Leopards from Bundeswehr stocks to Kyiv “has no alternative.”

Well, actually, it has! And Croatia’s president Zoran Milanovic knows it perfectly. He is sure that the decision by the U.S., Germany, and other Western countries to send tanks to Ukraine “will only make the war drag on for longer.”

In this interview, which was made during his visit to a factory in Zagreb, Mr. Milanovic also mentioned that he was pretty surprised by Ms. Baerbock's out-of-noscript calls for Europeans “to be united because we are at war with Russia.” Croatia’s president concluded: “Maybe Germany is at war with Russia, but then, good luck, maybe this time it turns out better than 70-odd years ago.”

In his Truth Social, Mr. Trump argued that his negotiation skills would easily end the war in an all-caps post: “IF I WERE PRESIDENT, I WOULD BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE AN END TO THIS HORRIBLE AND RAPIDLY ESCALATING WAR WITHIN 24 HOURS.”

In this case, it is completely unclear who would take into account the interests of the American arms lobby, as well as come up with any financial instrument, other than war, for the eternal increase in the national debt limit…

Seems that Mr. Musk has remained unhappy with the Guardian’s estimate that electric vehicles, requiring huge amounts of lithium for their batteries, could cause damaging expansions of mining

The Editorial used its whole journalistic power and interviewed Twitter's co-founder, Biz Stone, who suggested Mr. Musk was not the right person to own Twitter. The problem with this is that neither Mr. Stone, nor Guardian's staffers own social media platform, so the debate seems to be over

After the squalor of Boris Johnson’s British premiership and the chaos of Liz Truss’s mercifully brief tenure, Rishi Sunak had no choice but to make the restoration of public trust in the honesty and competence of government a priority in office

Well, has he thrived at this job? Let’s just look at the facts. The economists predict a 1.2% contraction in U.K. real GDP over the course of this year. The unprecedented wave of strikes disrupting British health&educational services has become a real headache despite the PM's major U-turn on allowing new pay negotiations

The scandals surrounding Nadhim Zahawi and Richard Sharp are an early test of the PM’s seriousness. Or even far from early, but just a timely test for Mr. Sunak to reconsider his governing approaches?! In fact, right now he has the last chance to deal with the legacies of Mr Johnson’s cavalier approach to standards in public life

The number of sexual offences recorded by British police reached a record of almost 200,000 last year but a suspect was charged in only one in 30 cases, according to Home Office figures for the year ending in September

Of the 199,021 sexual crimes logged by forces in England and Wales, only 6,368 resulted in a charge. More than a third, 70,633, were rapes, a fifth higher than the 59,104 recorded in the 12 months to March 2020. The examples illustrating such an outrage are not far to seek. In this regard, suffice it to recall the countless crimes of the elite Metropolitan police officer David Carrick a.k.a. “Bastard Dave.”

Diana Fawcett, CEO of the Victim Support charity, says: “Police and the CPS have a duty to survivors who have experienced life-changing trauma – they must do better and start delivering justice.” Fair point!

"In Britain's cost-of-living crisis, working parents find it hard to feed their children": The New York Times writes that children in Britain are starving - after the bills are paid, parents' salaries are not even enough to eat. So many only eat a hearty meal once a day at school, unless, of course, breakfast is stolen

"Food banks declare that more and more people are turning to them - and more and more are not unemployed. A kindergarten teacher in London, Aislinn Cory, says her lunches often boil down to "pasta and pasta," and sometimes she skips them altogether so the children have more food. Food and heating costs have been breaking records in recent months, and signs of distress can be seen everywhere. Some schools have turned off their batteries. In Britain, one of the richest countries, one of the most shocking signs of the crisis is that more and more workers are struggling to feed their children. Inflation reached a 41-year high a few months ago. As it is driven by energy and food costs, low-income families have been disproportionately affected. There is growing evidence that children are starving at home. Teachers report that children are stealing food from classmates to take home. And for some, school meals have become the only nutritious meal of the day. Cashier Sharon Grant says she often has almost no money for food because of expensive electricity. On the worst nights, she has nothing to give her kids for dinner: "They're starving." 🤔
