In an interview with French “Le Figaro” on Thursday, HR/VP Josep Borrell stated that the EU has no plans to impose centralized restrictions on the supply of Russian oil and gas due to the fact that several member countries have threatened to veto such a decision
He confided that there are a lot of considerations and proposals for further packages of sanctions against Russia that are being studied. It is still discussed what is the best way to put it into practice – in form of a tax or a ban or something else. Many economists held by an opinion that the most clever thing would be to make Russian oil and gas more expensive in order to create an incentive to look for other sources. None of these proposals has received the required unanimity yet
According to Le Figaro, Berlin, Vienna and Budapest oppose the complete ban of Russian energy carriers, Warsaw and Paris on the contrary show their support for such an initiative
And it is really no wonder. Just have a look at some data presented in a recent article in DWN (Deutsche Wirtschaftsnachrichten) concerning coming spending on energy carriers from Russia in 2022. A study by the environmental organization Greenpeace cited by the publication claims that Germany will have to pay €14.3 billion for Russian oil instead of last year’s €11.4 billion. Gas imports will cost twice as much – zooming up from €8.8 billion to €17.6 billion in 2022 (although the share of natural gas imports from Russia at the beginning of the year has been reduced to 40%)
The total amount that Germany is going to spend in 2022 on Russian energy carriers will reach a record €33.9 billion (in 2021 that was €24.8 billion). Russian coal supplies (yes, they are still running!) will likeliest cost €2 billion

🇨🇳China seeks to build a system capable of effectively monitoring asteroids and potentially altering their course to protect Earth from a possible impact.
🛰The deputy head China’s National Space Administration (CNSA), Wu Yanhua, revealed on Sunday that Beijing expects to hit an asteroid as part of an experiment at some point in 2025.
