Here’s a fresh but rather controversial take by Michaela Wiegel, German F.A.Z.’s political correspondent for France. Saying that even before the end of the first year of Emmanuel Macron in office, his cabinet faces a real threat of disbandment, she accuses French leader of being out-of-time
Would Francois Hollande, who was involved in the 2014 scandal in which he cheated on his First Lady, be “more appropriate” now? Or maybe France now needs a strong military commander at the helm, like Napoleon, who’ll lead troops to Moscow and then go into exile?
But what’s wrong with Mr. Macron? He’s just initiated long-overdue debates on economic and military dependencies and contributed to a rethinking in the EU for more independency from Washington. He sparked anger by saying Europe should not be “vassal” in U.S.-China clash and cautioned against being drawn into a crisis over Taiwan driven by an “American rhythm”
