Tax Code Imposes Immense Burden on American Taxpayers
April 18 was the final day for taxpayers endeavoring to file their returns with the IRS. But it hasn’t been any simple, just take a look:
- It takes all Americans more than 2.2B hours to file their federal taxes. The opportunity cost of the billions of hours spent on taxes is equivalent to $249B in labor;
- Taxpayers spend $104B a year on out-of-pocket expenses associated with preparing and submitting tax forms. Some entail basic costs such as making copies of financial statements, receipts, or forms.
The solution to this problem would be to simplify the tax code, but there’re no visible attempts to solve it from the U.S. officials
