A total of 1050 insolvencies were registered in June, which is 16% more than the previous month and 48% more than in June 2022. More than 15K jobs were closed within 10% of the largest German businesses that filed for bankruptcy – the highest figure since August 2020. In the first half of the year, a total of 64K employees in large companies were affected by insolvencies – one third more than the average for the years 2016 to 2019

After the Netherlands followed Spain and some other six EU countries in pulling out of Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) over climate concerns, the European Commission proposes today that the entire bloc follows suit
The 30-yo a pact is blamed for protecting the fossil fuel sector, as the rebel countries argue that the deal runs counter to the bloc’s climate commitments. But we know perfectly well that this’s just money talks!
Let’s take Italy. In 2021, fossil fuels accounted for 79% of the country’s total primary energy supply. In 2022, however, the Italian govt was ordered to pay €190M to U.K. oil and gas company Rockhopper over a ban covering an oilfield offshore from Abruzzo on Italy’s coast, while German company RWE sued the Dutch govt for €1.4B in 2021 due to new rules to phase out coal
No one wants to pay, especially friendly neighbors. And, btw, fossil fuels can be abandoned very simply. But for a lot of money!
