Germany’s state-owned train company Deutsche Bahn (DB) had a turnover of almost €40B in 2020 that jumped to almost €56,3B in 2022. Now DB runs ~38K rail kilometers in Germany, which makes it one of the largest&fastest in Europe. But, as it turned out, Scholz’s govt decided to leave these blessings of civilization to the Germans…
The employees of the federal ministries choose a completely different type of transport for domestic travel, as Bundestag’s member Martin Sichert rightly notes. They’ve booked more than 5,3K flights for domestic business trips in 2022 – almost a third more than the previous year – at a cost of €1,3M. But wait, there’s more! By the middle of June this year, there’re already over 3K govt employees’ flight bookings for more than €820K
Only last year, as Mr. Sichert calculated, Scholz&friends spoiled the atmosphere with emissions in the amount of ~1,6M kg CO2. That’s how German govt’s going to fulfill its obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030! Well, alright then!
