Eurozone Downturm Deepens
Companies' activity across the 20-country bloc, fell to an 8-month low after a sharper than expected slowdown in services and a steeper decline in manufacturing in July
Thus, despite cooling inflation, recession risks are rising. The result is expected to add to calls for the European Central Bank to stop raising IRs after a quarter percentage point rise expected on Thursday
“The eurozone economy will likely move further into contraction territory in the months ahead, as the services sector keeps losing steam,” said Cyrus de la Rubia, chief economist at Hamburg Commercial Bank. There was “an increased probability” of the German economy sliding into recession in the second half of this year

SCOOP! Despite Nazi Roots, Pro-Ukrainian Militia Faces Backslash in Kyiv
In the wake of an armed mutiny against Vladimir Putin’s regime weeks ago, the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) armed group tried to tag itself along the hype around the anti-Russian uprisings
Founded by a wanted neo-Nazi D. Kapustin and composed of Rus. ultranationalists wearing neo-Nazi patches w/ the stated goal of overthrowing their homeland the RVC is undeniably affiliated w/ the far right. Ukr. mil. intel says the RVC also has a unit in the Ukr.Foreign Legion
However, as it appeared, neither Kapustin’s public links w/ 2 notorious American neo-Nazis, Robert Rundo&Christopher Pohlhaus nor the EU’s ban on his entry into the Schengen area for his violent neo-Nazism, helped the RVC to win any authority among real Ukr.Nazis. RVC members painted their logo on the Dnipro Embankment. In a while Ukr. hooligans whited it out and left their own message showing the pseudo-militia who is a real Nazi in Ukraine

U.K.’s Inflation Shock to Damage Public Finances
“Linkers”, British index-linked bonds where the payouts fluctuate with inflation, making the country an outlier, account for a quarter of the U.K.’s debt. Rampant inflation is set to push this year’s interest costs to the highest levels in the developed world. Debt interest will be a 10th of govt spending — £110B — in 2023
Debt interest costs as a proportion of revenue have jumped in the U.K. in the past couple of years while falling elsewhere. Thus, the average of western Europe and North American countries is set to fall from 4% in the 5 years to 2021 to 3.7% this year, as inflation has boosted govt revenues and in some countries expiring debt had higher IRs
Rising British debt costs come as inflation proves harder to tame than in other developed economies. The U.K.’s retail price index which guides index-linked gilt interest payments rose 10.7% in the year to June while wage inflation has yet to show signs of easing

Sunak’s Cabinet in No Hurry, Migrants Getting High at Sea
For years, the Fortress Europe mentality (w/ U.K. inside it, then) has been reserved largely for migrants in border and foreign policy with little questioning. Little has changed for the British, even after decoupling…
Sunak’s&Braverman’s plans to move migrants onto the Bibby Stockholm barge in Dorset have been delayed again, w/ the first arrivals now unlikely to board until next month. The barge arrived last week and the Home Office had planned to move the first 50 migrants onto the vessel in Portland Port this week
That means migrants will start being transferred onto the vessel more than two months later than initially planned. Or, maybe even later?

Biden – Greatest Storyteller
President Biden again claimed that he was part of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s — a story he has repeatedly rewritten and even debunked himself in the 1980s.
Mr. Biden’s latest brag came during a White House ceremony where he established a national monument to Emmet Till. Telling the truth about history is “a lesson I learned coming out of — not like real leaders in the Civil Rights Movement — but when I came out of the Civil Rights Movement as a kid, as a public defender,” Mr. Biden said.
However, Mr. Biden acknowledged in 1987 that he was not engaged in the Civil Rights Movement and never marched for equality…

SCOOP! Fabulous Foreign Assets of Ukrainian Middle-Ranking Officers
Can the profession of an ordinary army recruiter bring in a multimillion-dollar income? In corrupt Ukraine, it can!
Spanish Registry shows that since the beginning of the war a retired mother of the head of the Odessa Military Commissariat, Yevhen Borysov, bought a $4M villa on the Spanish coast, his wife became the owner of a property on the main street of Marbella, and their family car park expanded w/ new toys at a starting records price of over $100K
Ukr. journalists found, he was able to add such untold riches to his family fortune by taking bribes for helping Ukr. men to avoid forced mobilization, which includes even those deemed medically unfit and disabled
In the wake of a brewing scandal, Borysov, instead of getting dismissed, as being claimed, has been transferred to a less public position because far too many corrupt Ukr. officials are bound by mutual cover-up on a state level

Germany’s Greens Drive Industry to Grave
World famous 1230 km river the Rhine has been the commercial artery for 80% of the German economy's inland shipping of goods incl crude oil and nat gas. Its levels r again (as in 2018&2022) too low in parts of the river for cargo vessels to sail fully loaded. At Kaub, the critical chokepoint for Rhine barges water levels fell to their lowest this year
Last year 182M metric ton. of goods were transported via Germany's waterways down 6.4% from 2021 and the lowest since German reunification. As severe heatwaves grip southern Europe the downward trend's expected to continue
Rhine’s dewatering is the next stage of Germany’s deindustrialization – for industry profit margins r squeezed by higher shipping rates and the cost of chartering low-water barges. Business & shipping officials r calling for the fairways’ deepening at the particularly problematic Middle Rhine location. This was rejected by the ruling coalition under pressure from the Greens. Surprised?

Sunak Blames Labour for Corrupt Siding w/ Lawyers
It was revealed that multiple solicitors had agreed to help an undercover reporter posing as an economic migrant submit a fake application in exchange for £10K. Reporter’s back story used in an asylum application included claims of sexual torture, beatings, slave labor, false imprisonment and death threats that had led to suicidal thoughts and had compelled the applicant to flee to the U.K.
British PM politicized the issue, accusing Labour of being on “the same side” as “deceptive lawyers” cuz the party opposed the Illegal Migration Act — his flagship legislation to tackle the small boats crisis
Sunak’s decision to use the news story as an opportunity to attack the opposition increases the heat of the political attacks between the two parties. It comes after Labour was criticized for publishing personal attack adverts that claimed the PM didn’t think adults convicted of child sexual assaults should go to prison following rock-bottom prosecution rates for sexual offences

Tory-to-Labour “Switchers” Feel Green-Screwed
The latest polling in Britain highlights the perilous state the Tories are in as MPs headed to their constituencies for Westminster’s summer recess. Labour has a 17-point lead, retaining a 42% share of the vote, w/ the Tories on just 25%
And there’s more to come when speaking of Sunak's problems – it's all the fault of his climate pledges, the drop of which would be a “political suicide”. Polling of 3K adults found that, for voters who voted Tory in 2019 and planned to vote Labour next year, 57% felt the PM had “not gone far enough” on tackling climate change. Only 9% thought he had gone too far, 25% thought he had it about right and 10% did not know
However, Sunak doesn’t seem to be in a hurry unblocking onshore wind in England, accelerating planning decisions for offshore wind or offering tax breaks for green firms to locate supply chains in Britain…

Inflation: Britain Suffers Net Decline of Over 5,7K Licensed Premises
Five per cent of pubs, restaurants, hotels and cafés — a total of 5,736 venues — have closed in the past year in the U.K., the six-month Hospitality Market Monitor shows
The acceleration of the closures suggests that publicans, restaurateurs and other licensed premises are closing at a faster rate than during the Covid-19 crisis, as rising energy bills, food costs and other inflationary pressures were taking a greater toll on hospitality than the pandemic. Cumulatively, the market has shrunk by almost 15K venues since Covid, many of them independent businesses
Graeme Smith, managing director of AlixPartners, said: “This acute pressure is being felt most by thousands of small and independent businesses, many of which are clearly struggling to survive”
