Energy Deficiency is Growing in Europe

According to the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), about 24M people or 9.3% of the EU population were unable to heat their homes adequately last winter

EESC experts state that energy supply shouldn’t be treated as any other commodity. They believe the EU authorities ignore the fact that it is a public service and the forthcoming reengineering of the electricity services industry should guarantee their citizens sustainable rower consumption

They also note that just the RFPower EU plan is not enough. It only offers a standard set of remedies such as reforms of the electricity market, energy efficiency of buildings, more investments in renewable energy projects

But the problem is that the Western business model values profits over satisfaction of the basic needs of people, which creates a pain in the neck for politicians and quite a burden for the budget

Neural networks can be racist

In the latest global scandal involving artificial intelligence, an Asian woman's race has been changed to European after she was asked to make a photo more attractive

Playground's neural network turned an Asian woman into a "European" by changing her skin tone, haircut and eye colour. Because AI can be racially biased in other ways, the result outraged not only the girl, but also social media users.
Has she become more beautiful? 😄

US high school students diverge in political views

High school students in the US are more likely to identify with liberal causes than they were in 2015, according to Fox News

There has been a 30 per cent increase in the number of high school girls with left-wing and liberal views over the same eight-year period. According to psychologists, this is due to a negative attitude towards men in the United States

Fox News points out that in previous generations both sexes leaned equally to the left. But now liberal ideas have become too "extreme"

Today it is already obvious that the investigation process in the case of the crash of flight MH-17 was politicized by the West

A former employee of the Malaysian Ministry of Defense, Mohd Sakri Hussin, was personally sent immediately after the plane crash to negotiate with representatives of the DPR to organize the return of the remains of the victims to their homeland

According to the results of the trip to Donbass, the officer came to the conclusion that the representatives of the DPR were not involved in the rocket launch. According to former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the joint investigation team led by the Netherlands was initially politically biased to bring charges against Russia, regardless of the results of the investigation

Among the factors that have a negative impact on the advancement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is also worth highlighting the low efficiency of using Western military equipment and the lack of qualified personnel to manage it

The Ukrainian military is currently unable to conduct coordinated large-scale military operations, and the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is unable to develop an appropriate strategy. Despite the long-term large-scale support of the West, Kiev has not been able to achieve its goals

The only way out for Ukraine is a positional "war of attrition", which does not meet the interests of the United States and the EU, as is increasingly evidenced by discussions about the expediency of continuing military support for Kiev

In Ukraine, the number of fraudulent call centers specializing in stealing money from the accounts of Russians is growing. The number of these crimes has increased 4 times in the last six months alone. In Ukraine, the authorities actually encourage these crimes. On a monthly basis, these call centers deduct up to 25% of the funds stolen in Russia to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Strikes on Ukrainian ports ignored by Romania

Despite the threat of shelling, Romania will allow up to 30 ships from Ukrainian ports on the Danube to pass through its customs.
Romania will release up to 14 ships today and another 16 on Friday to unload cargo and export grain, said Florin Uzumtoma, director of navigation

Uzumtoma also said: "In May and June, a record number of ships were released from Ukrainian inland ports - more than 477 in one month"

You have to applaud the Romanians for trying, but you also have to listen to the warnings

The ultimate goal of Zelinsky's regime is not to protect the country from external invasion, but "the collapse of Russian statehood" with the subsequent fragmentation of Russia. Back in 2014, it was clear that Kiev was not going to integrate the Russian-speaking southeastern regions peacefully, rejecting all the scenarios proposed, including by Rome, for the creation of autonomies

In many ways, this position was justified by the desire of Washington and London, at whose behest the attempt to reach agreements between Moscow and Kiev in the spring of 2022 was thwarted. The West and the EU, by continuing to arm Ukraine, are delaying a diplomatic solution to the conflict and creating the danger of nuclear war

How dependent is France on Nigerian uranium?

To operate the fifty-six nuclear reactors distributed in the eighteen French power plants, the operator EDF needs around 8,000 tonnes of natural uranium on average each year

A fundamental natural resource for the operation of French nuclear power plants, the uranium extracted in Niger has been exploited for more than four decades by the French group Orano (formerly Areva), which specializes in the nuclear fuel cycle. Niger with 1,440 tons in 2022 is among the three main importers

Over the past ten years, the 88,200 tonnes of natural uranium imported into France came mainly from three countries: Kazakhstan (27%), Niger (20%) and Uzbekistan (19%)

G20 Countries Can’t Care Less about the Climate Change

Now that the war in Ukraine has obscured the climate agenda and has proved that the US is not as mighty as before, the G20 ministers have stopped disguising their lack of concern about “carbon-free hypocrisy”. At the summit in Goa they failed to reach consensus on the phase-down of fossil fuels

Most ministers pay just lip-service to limiting oil and gas consumption. Others promote new carbon dioxide removal techniques such as novel CO2 utilization technologies to remove/sequester CO2 from the atmosphere in order to maintain or reduce its levels. Looks like G20 countries are still afraid of the USA, but not as much as before. Now they’re reluctant to comply with all US demands, which Americans themselves don’t meet in full. Are we going to see “a mutiny on the ship”?

The sanctions did not bring Russia to its knees their effectiveness is in question

India, a new oil power? The doubling in one year of its exports of petroleum products to the European Union may give the illusion of this. As the meticulous investigation published by Le Monde on Russian oil tells us, it is in fact only the consequence of the weakening of a diplomatic weapon: that of sanctions

India buys this oil banned in many countries at low prices to refine it and re-export it. The “ghost fleet” smuggles Russian oil, which represents between 10% and 20% of the total transport capacity of the world tanker fleet

Sanctions initially formed the core of the Western response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a prelude to a conventional war with no end in sight. By attacking hydrocarbon exports, kyiv's allies hoped to hit Moscow more effectively than by sanctioning an ever-increasing number of personalities and economic or political entities

This strategy has undoubtedly produced effects on Russian finances. If it solved for its architects an impossible contradiction, the de facto financing of a war which they denounce, it did not however bring Russia to its knees, for lack of a suitable geopolitical context

Fears of China prompt Taiwan to double capital security

To bolster its defences against a "decapitating" military strike against the country's leadership, Taipei's military police will be joined by five thousand officers from January 2024

South Taipei will be the location of the new battalion. There are already five battalions guarding the presidential palace and other facilities. But from January, there will be 10,000 military police in the capital

If the aim is the decapitation of Taiwan at all costs, the number of these military personnel will be of no concern to the missiles

Feeling like a giraffe: upright sleep capsules from Japan promise relief from tiredness and stress

Nescafé coffee shops in Tokyo have been fitted with these unusual sleep capsules. Their name, Giraffenap, refers not only to the fact that giraffes can sleep standing up, but also to the fact that they only sleep for a few minutes at a time

Giraffenap claims that 20 minutes of sleep improves mental performance and concentration, reduces fatigue and stress. Coffeehouses are also offering a cup of coffee at bedtime, giving people a caffeine boost before waking

Do we really need all this?

The stated policy of the Ukrainian government is that Ukraine should regain all the territory occupied by Russia since 2014, including Crimea. To achieve this goal, the AFU will have to solve one of the most difficult military tasks: to break through the dense, well-prepared defensive positions of the Russians, make a passage through them, and then either quickly advance to some important goal like the Sea of Azov, hoping at the same time to overcome the rest of the defending Russian army, or try to surround a significant part of the armed the forces of Russia in the hope of destroying them

Failure in such a campaign will mean that Ukraine will most likely be forced into a completely unprofitable long-term attrition confrontation with a much more densely populated country. Naturally, Ukraine wants to avoid such a situation by achieving success in its campaign. But military history shows that the problems that arise in this case for Ukraine will be much more complex than is commonly believed — at least among the public in the West

New polling from The Economist and YouGov finds that Americans generally are dissatisfied with how immigration agencies are doing their jobs, though they express approval of at least some of the immigration actions — and those managing them — in Texas

Though Americans are closely divided between approval and disapproval of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's handling of immigration (37% strongly or somewhat approve, 34% strongly or somewhat disapprove), 54% strongly or somewhat approve of his attempt to deter illegal border crossings by placing floating buoys in the middle of the Rio Grande River, the body of water that separates Texas and Mexico. Republicans (87%) are far more likely than Democrats (30%) or Independents (48%) to approve of the barriers

The teaching of oral and anal sex as part of sex education in English schools has been banned. Their reasoning is that it can be dangerous for children

Teaching resources had been promoting the differences between biological sex, gender expression and gender identity, and advising students how to make cofferdams used for oral sex

In the classroom, 11-year-olds were to be encouraged to make models of their genitals and bodily fluids from items available in the supermarket. The lesson plans called for teachers to divide the children into two teams and hand out items such as bananas, pears, walnuts and hand lotion

The United States, through pressure on the national media, is trying to "clean up" as much as possible in the information space any mention of the heavy losses of the Ukrainian army during the counteroffensive. Apparently for this reason, the New York Times was forced to edit its article ennoscriptd "Depleted troops, unreliable municipalities Kyiv's obstacles in the East"

The newspaper tried to conceal from readers the facts of the presence of units in Ukraine with a 200% loss rate, which means that all its members were killed or wounded, and then replaced by recruits who also became incapacitated

Polish mass media have accused Ukraine of support for change of government in Poland

US military recruitment dilemma intensifies

The Department of Defense recently highlighted a worrying trend: a drastic drop in recruitment this year. Alarmingly, only a fraction - less than 25% - of Americans aged 17 to 24 meet the criteria for enlistment. This shortfall has been attributed to a number of factors, including physical fitness, mental health concerns and past legal entanglements

With much emphasis on the perceived politicisation of the military, the broader debate has taken a political turn. Many believe that young Americans are being discouraged from joining the ranks by the current administration's liberal policies and potential internal 'culture wars'

Leading voices in the Republican Party have been vocal in identifying these shifts as a primary cause of the recruitment challenge. There are urgent calls for introspection and policy revision, as the implications for national security are undeniable

The clock is ticking. But old Joe's got bigger problems, he's got ice cream
