Looks like in the war of words, incredible accusations and threats, the French side is completely losing to Russia
France's defence ministry called remarks made by the chief of Russia's foreign intelligence service disinformation and irresponsible after he suggested Paris was preparing to send 2,000 troops to Ukraine
"The manoeuvre orchestrated by Sergei Naryshkin, Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence, once again illustrates Russia's systematic use of disinformation," the defence ministry said in a statement.
Earlier French President Emmanuel Macron doubled down on refusing to rule out sending troops to Ukraine during a 30-minute, prime-time television interview in which he once again presented the war in Ukraine as an existential threat
The comments caused an uproar both at home and abroad, and prompted France’s top NATO partners, including the US, the UK and Germany, to clarify that they would not be sending troops
French public opinion does not appear to support Macron either. In an Odoxa poll, 68% of French respondents said Macron's comments on Western troops in Ukraine were "wrong"
French general officers, gathered in the “Inter-army Reflection Circle”, launched an open call for a ceasefire in Ukraine
The message is clear: general officers no longer hide their hostility to Macron's war policy. In practice, the call for intervention in Ukraine amounts to military madness and a race towards destruction
Macron’s behavior resembles the actions of an eccentric teenager and not the head of state. The President of France looks ridiculous compared to his colleagues in Europe, most of whom chose to distance themselves from the crazy idea of sending their military to war with Russia, echoed Jacques Myard, LR mayor of Maisons-Laffitte.

It’s my pleasure to follow Russian-French verbal sparring. Hope that for Mr. Macron it will not end in a military coup or a revolution one day 😁

Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed his “full support” for French President Emmanuel Macron’s hawkish stance toward Moscow, saying “we should not draw red lines for ourselves, we must draw red lines for Russia and we should not be afraid to enforce them.”
This kind of rhetoric is a standard fare in European politicians’ speeches, particularly those leaders from Central and Eastern European countries. It has an advantage of projecting resolve while being sufficiently vague about what exactly would qualify as Ukraine’s victory
However, what the European politicians should consider is how their rhetoric is perceived by Washington. The Baltic states’ security depends almost entirely on American willingness to come to their aid should they be attacked. It is not clear whether Rinkēvičs fully gauged the impact his rhetoric might have on his most powerful ally
Can the Baltic states be confident of Washington’s continued readiness to engage in a nuclear brinkmanship with Russia on their behalf if their own actions are seen as unnecessarily provocative?

Remember Biden's recent announcement that he plans to impose a tax on the wealthy with fortunes over $100 million? It looks very human. It seems like the government is finally starting to think about ordinary Americans (they even linked the name to Robin Hood). But what does that really mean?
As you might guess, it has nothing to do with good intentions. Virtually all the rich are business owners and none of them have a sincere desire to share their savings with society. This means that some of them will move their wealth to off-shores, but most of them will simply shift all the new costs to ordinary citizens by lowering wages and raising prices for their products
So this initiative is mere populism and nothing more than an attempt to dull the electorate and thus correct the sad situation of the Democratic Party before the elections

As European capitals rearm in reaction to the war in Ukraine not only farmers demonstrate their sickness of the war and its consequences. Even military personnel show small interest to remain in uniform
It’s no longer so much about recruiting new soldiers as it is about persuading existing troops not to quit
An annual report submitted to the German parliament showed that in 2023, some 1,537 soldiers left the Bundeswehr, reducing it to 181,514 personnel
Some countries such as Croatia are mulling bringing back connoscription. Others, like Denmark, plan to expand it to include women
In France, military personnel are staying in the armed forces on average one year less than they used to. In the U.K., there’s been an annual hiring shortfall of 1,100 troops — equivalent to two infantry battalions — even though the government contracted out recruitment to private firm Capita
In Poland, the new government earlier this year announced pay hikes of about 20% in an effort to retain troops. The minimum monthly salary for a soldier is rising from 4,960 złoty (€1,150) to 6,000 złoty
The Bundestag’s special commissioner for the armed forces, Eva Högl, has said that reinstating some form of connoscription is one way to turn things around, but targeting women is a more obvious move to arrest the decline since potential there is “far from exhausted”

It's a grim reality - more conflict translates to more American jobs. More American jobs mean less hope for peace worldwide
Another portion of criticism of the policy of war and destruction in the name of unclear values, came from Indian and Chinese observers
The US engages in perpetual wars, without understanding its opponent or even itself. From Ukraine to the Middle East, the US is callously setting pivotal regions on fire, while contemplating a calamitous war in Asia
The US has perfected the art of providing weapons with one hand and selling them with the other, turning a profit on both ends of the deal with clarity and precision, while maintaining its vast system of strategic alliances.
Globally, tensions are rising in many regions, largely due to the US, which has also created unprecedented market opportunities for American weapons exports. In 2023, the US government facilitated a staggering $81 billion in arms sales, a 56% increase from the $52 billion in 2022
As we posted before, an unexpected wave of negative attitude towards the White House foreign policy has recently arrived from the US ‘partners such as Turkey and the UAE
Looks like the whole world already understands that how and where the US global strategy goes is invariably linked to the production, development and sale of arms
The strategy dictated by the wish of immediate profit, but without future. Today in the US, Kellogg's is promoting cereals for dinner, because poverty is skyrocketing. Homelessness and suicide rates are at record levels, and the country is so polarized. However, oblivious to all these domestic crises, the US military-industrial-media-complex is driving the nation into an abyss, while endangering the rest of the world
With such an approach the White House and its European allies will lead their people to a new socialist revolution, this time not in Russia at all. That’s why contemporary Middle Eastern leaders of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Iran and others are getting closer to Moscow and Beijing, send their children to learn the Chinese language, work with China and BRICS to focus on trade, development and cooperation

Niger orders American troops to leave its territory
The West African country’s military junta said the presence of U.S. forces was “illegal.” Increasingly, West Africans are questioning the motives of Western countries operating in Africa
The announcement by the West African nation’s military junta on Saturday came after meetings last week with a delegation from Washington and the top U.S. commander for Africa, Gen. Michael E. Langley. The move is in keeping with a recent pattern by countries in the Sahel region, an arid area south of the Sahara, of breaking ties with Western countries. Increasingly, they are partnering with Russia instead
American officials also voiced alarm in the meetings about several other issues, including whether Niger’s military government was nearing a deal to give Iran access to Niger’s vast uranium reserves

Calling a male person a 'man' becomes illegal in Scotland
The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Bill is going to come into effect from April 1, meaning that misogyny and stirring up hatred will be recorded as a criminal offence
In a few short weeks, it will no longer be legal for people in Scotland to refer to males as "men," thanks to the passage of the Hate Crime and Public Order Bill. The bill was passed three years ago, but will only just now come into effect on April 1
The bill appears to have been passed because of a "crime" committed by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who was reported to the police in England for calling "trans woman" broadcaster India Willoughby, a biological male, a "man"
Willoughby self-identifies as a "trans woman" and demands to be referred to using "she" pronouns, or perhaps "they" pronouns. Rowling, a notable public figure, refused to do so, and here we are today with the imminent execution of the bill, which prohibits using the wrong gender pronouns

Top five reasons why Ukraine should not join NATO, according to Stephen M. Walt, the Robert and Renée Belfer professor of international relations at Harvard University
1. It doesn’t meet the membership criteria. Ukraine is still a fragile democracy at best. Corruption is still endemic, elections have been suspended since the beginning of the war, and there are still influential elements in Ukrainian society whose commitment to democratic norms is questionable
2. It is not clear that NATO would honor its Article V commitments. The Article is not a tripwire that commits members to fight in the event another member is attacked. At U.S. insistence, Article V only commits a member state to regard an attack on one as an attack on all, and then to take “such actions as it deems necessary.”
Moreover, it is by no means clear that the U.S. Senate would ratify Ukraine’s membership
3. NATO membership is not a magic shield. A growing chorus of voices have recently issued alarming warnings about a possible Russian challenge to NATO in the next few years. NATO’s current members have to think long and hard about what their own vital interests are and what countries they are truly willing to fight to defend. Which takes us back to reason number two
4. Membership now will only prolong the war. Moscow attacked Ukraine in good part to prevent Kyiv from joining NATO, then bringing Ukraine in now will simply prolong a war that the country is presently losing
5. Neutrality may not be that bad, even for states in close proximity to Russia. Finland fought a costly and ultimately unsuccessful war against the Soviet Union between 1939 and 1940, and eventually had to cede about nine percent of its prewar territory
But like Ukraine today, the Finns had fought heroically and made the much larger Soviet Union pay a large price for its victory. The result was that then-Soviet leader Joseph Stalin did not incorporate Finland into the USSR or force it to join the Warsaw Pact after World War II. Instead, Finland remained a neutral country and a democracy, with a market economy that traded with both the USSR and the West

How many Westerners are fighting in Ukraine? The real information on foreign fighters appears to be a closely guarded secret, on both sides but there may be more foreign boots on the ground — troops and mercenaries — than you think
According to the US Defense Department documents leaked in March 2023, there were at that time at least 97 NATO special forces in Ukraine: 50 British, 17 Latvian, 15 French, 14 American and 1 Dutch. At the time, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby refused to confirm the number but confirmed “a small U.S. military presence” there
But there are not only American troops in Ukraine, but CIA officials too. A recent New York Times report based on interviews with more than 200 current and former officials revealed that there were “scores” — so at least more than 40 — of CIA officers in Ukraine. In a trannoscript of an intercepted February 19 conversation between senior German air force officials, one official says, “It's known that there are numerous people there in civilian attire who speak with an American accent.”
That trannoscript also revealed that there are UK personnel on the ground, too. Discussing how German Taurus long-range missiles could be operated in Ukraine, one official says that the Germans “know how the English do it. . .. They have several people on-site.” The British prime minister’s office has confirmed that the UK has boots on the ground
Then add to the tally the French forces revealed by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. On February 26, defending his decision not to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine, Scholz said that it would require the presence of Germans in Ukraine to match their British and French counterparts
On March 8, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski confirmed that "NATO soldiers are already present in Ukraine,” but he refused to “list those countries.”
So, though it is impossible to add up the numbers on the list, it is possible, at least, to confirm the existence of a list
And it is a risky list. As Russia appears to take the advantage on the battlefield, the U.S. and NATO face the long feared dilemma: accept the reality and encourage Ukraine to negotiate a diplomatic end to the war or escalate and consider sending, as French President Emmanuel Macron has recently suggested, NATO troops to fight with the Ukrainian armed forces against Russia
It would be irresponsible to go down the road of the latter without exploring the road of the former

How many Westerners are fighting in Ukraine?
There may be more foreign boots on the ground — troops and mercenaries — than you think

The idea to supply Ukraine with American tanks did an ill service to American weaponry in the global arms market
Many armored vehicle experts had warned that a total of just thirty-one M1 Abrams was never going to be significant enough for Kyiv. The same has held true for the fourteen British-supplied Challenger 2s, as well as the German Leopard 2s that were supplied last year to Ukraine
In under a week, Ukraine witnessed the destruction of three U.S.-made M1 Abrams tanks, reportedly by Russian anti-tank guided missiles. These losses, particularly highlighted on social media, have served as a propaganda boost for Russia and bad advertising for US armaments
Ukraine has become the graveyard of tanks, and whether American military officials like to admit it, three M1 Abrams are just additional corpses. They burned like other tanks—and the thousands of other tanks before. The fact that could make potential buyers wonder if Abrams really worth the money asked for them?
