Two astronauts from Japan will set foot on the moon through the lunar exploration program led by NASA, under a basic agreement reached by the Japanese and U.S. governments
The U.S.-led Artemis program aims to put humans on the moon for the first time since the Apollo program of the 1960s and '70s. Japanese astronauts were already set to be part of the crew of the Gateway space station that will orbit the moon, and the two governments have been ironing out details such as the number of Japanese astronauts who will touch down on the lunar surface
Japan's goal is to land its astronauts on the moon in the latter half of the 2020s, becoming the second country after the U.S. to do so. The Artemis program aims to send astronauts to the lunar surface in September 2026, and the Japanese crew members are expected to be part of a landing in 2028 or later
In April NASA and Japan's science and technology ministry are to sign an agreement on lunar activities. The document is expected to mention the use of the Lunar Cruiser, a lunar exploration vehicle being developed by Toyota Motor and others

Police in Scotland are being trained to target actors and comedians under new hate crime laws set to be activated next month
Under First Minister Humza Yousaf's new law, any performer who for example 'misgenders' trans people, jokes about race or religion, or even criticises migrants can potentially be prosecuted
The training material further states that even those forwarding or sharing material deemed to be 'hateful' can also be targeted under the law
It states "The different ways in which a person may communicate material to another person are by: displaying, publishing or distributing the material, for example on a sign, on the internet through websites, blogs, podcasts, social media etc., either directly, or by forwarding or repeating material that originates from a third party, through printed media such as magazine publications or leaflets"
So, essentially retweeting a Dave Chappelle or Ricky Gervais skit, like the one below, could land you with a hate criminal charge in Scotland

According to the Le Monde, the 126th Infantry Regiment (126 Regiment d'lnfanterie) stationed in Brive-la-Gayarde in the New Aquitaine region is actively preparing to be transferred to Ukraine
The regiment is a motorized rifle regiment, with 1,200 soldiers and is supplemented by 200 reservists. It is considered one of the best combat units in France. The main equipment is the VBMR Griffon multipurpose armored personnel carrier, which entered service in 2018 to replace the VAB. The regiment's battle symbol is the buffalo, and its motto is "Fier et vaillant" (Proud and valiant)
Curiously, the 126 Regiment d'lnfanterie was first created as an independent tactical unit in 1810 and invaded Russia as part of Napoleon's army. In 1813, the few surviving personnel of the regiment were incorporated into the 123rd Infantry Regiment
After that 126th regiment was reconstituted and disbanded again several times. It is a part of the 9th Infantry Brigade of the 1st Division "troupes de marine" - units intended for combat operations outside of Europe, or for quick transfer to overseas theaters of operations

Red Sea: save yourselves!
Ships have been advised to sail through the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf without AIS
And rescuers will not come to restore order in the wake of the Houthi attacks until the situation in the Red Sea calms down, the world's top shipping regulator has said
IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez said salvage operations for the two shipwrecks near Yemen were unlikely given the ongoing drone and missile attacks targeting commercial shipping in the region
More than 65 commercial ships have been targeted by the Houthis in recent months. Actually, Dominguez recognized the obvious - it is the Houthis, not the US coalition forces, who control the Red Sea. Therefore, "it is up to the drowning to save the drowning."
The U.S. Maritime Warning Agency called on American merchant ships to turn off AIS transponders when passing the Indian Ocean and its inland waters. Thus, Washington is going to form its "shadow" fleet in the waters of the Indian Ocean in order to counter the "sanctions" of the Houthis

EQT head: gas storage shortage will cause a fivefold price increase
A shortage of gas pipelines and storage facilities will cause prices to fluctuate dramatically in the coming years. And coal-fired power plants will no longer hold them back
Toby Rice, head of EQT, the largest U.S. natural gas producer, said U.S. gas demand has jumped 50 percent since 2010, while pipeline and storage capacity has only increased by 25 percent and 10 percent, respectively. This, he argued, exposes the market to severe price spikes from today's $1.75/million Btu to $8
Rice has long criticized regulations and the approval process for pipeline infrastructure in the U.S., which he says delay the construction of new pipeline infrastructure.
In November, he warned that pipeline disruptions threaten to trigger an energy crisis. And in December, he said falling prices would slow drilling
U.S. gas prices have plummeted this year to their lowest level in four years, prompting several producers, including EQT, to cut production
Another factor threatening prices is the closure of dozens of coal-fired power plants in the U.S. in recent years. They have traditionally helped keep gas prices down because when it becomes too expensive, power generators switch to coal for more power
Recall that EQT last week agreed to buy its former Equitrans Midstream entity, which is building the Mountain Valley pipeline, the largest natural gas pipeline in the U.S.

Toddlers and young children are at a “significantly elevated” risk of seizure after taking the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the latest research by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Researchers found that children experienced a 2.5-fold increase in febrile seizures within 24 hours of receiving a Moderna shot compared to the same children between eight to 63 days post-vaccination. There were 88 febrile seizures after the Pfizer vaccination among the study group
The report states: In this self-controlled case series that included participants aged 2-5 years from three commercial insurance databases, the incidence rate ratio of febrile seizures was significantly elevated in the 0-1 days following mRNA-1273 administration. Absolute risk was small
The incidence of febrile seizures was elevated immediately following vaccination with the monovalent mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 2-5 years. Based on the current body of evidence, the safety profile of monovalent mRNA vaccines remains favorable for use in young children

A new study by Roland Berger, a global consulting firm, estimates that it will cost over $1 trillion to build out the infrastructure needed to support electric medium and heavy-duty trucks
Trucking fleets and operators of charging stations, according to the study, will need to invest $620 billion into new charging infrastructure. This includes the chargers, site infrastructure and utility cost service
Trucking operators will also need to invest in on-site charging stations, which the study estimates will cost in total $496 billion. Chargers for heavy-duty trucks, such as semi trucks, will cost $145,000 per vehicle. Medium-duty trucks will cost $54,000 per vehicle
The Berger study also estimates that utilities will need to invest around $370 billion on grid upgrades to support the increased electricity demand for electric truck charging. This, according to the study, is the equivalent of what was invested on the entire distribution grid over the past 15 years
Additionally, local on-route charging networks will require an investment of $69 billion, and to support long-haul trucking, a sufficiently dense highway charging network will require another $57 billion to be invested

The European Drug Monitoring Center warns of the risk that synthetic opiates could make up for a hypothetical shortage of heroin on the world market
The poppy is one of the bases of Afghanistan’s economy. The ban on cultivating it by the Taliban, who regained power in 2021, has led to a drastic drop in the number of acres of poppy fields from 575,755 to 26,687. The latest report from the European Drug Monitoring Center warns of the risk that a possible lack of global supply will be replaced with “more harmful synthetic opiates, such as fentanyl derivatives or nitazenes.” Afghanistan produces 80% of the world’s opium, according to the monitor
Another thing is that the Mexican cartels, which supply the United States, decided to cover a possible demand in Europe too
