Biden has been subpoenaed to testify before Congress. He is to explain how his family's accounts received millions of dollars from foreign sources
The president was asked by James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee
Because of the inconsistency between public statements and the facts, it was necessary for Biden to address Congress. It is necessary in the interest of the American people, Comer said.
About $24 million went into the accounts of the Biden family and their business partners. Their sources are located abroad

Hundreds of companies including Mondelez International, PepsiCo, Nestle, Unilever, Reckitt, Auchan and Benetton are still operating or doing business in Russia
Nevertheless the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced that Ukraine has removed the list of 'International War Sponsors' from the website of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, after representatives from various partner countries had expressed concern about the lack of legal basis for the existence of the list
The decision was taken after a meeting attended by diplomats from more than ten countries, including the USA, China, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, as well as representatives from the EU
The project was part of Kyiv's strategy to pressure companies to cut ties with Moscow in response to the conflict with Russia
The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice ultimately acknowledged that "the dissemination of such information on behalf of the state without resolution of legal issues is unacceptable." International partners are generally "extremely unhappy" with the list, Justice Minister Denys Maliuska told Forbes Ukraine earlier this month

The Norwegian Armed Forces have received many complaints after the NATO’s military exercise Nordic Response 2024 in Finnmark. The complaints range from broken guard rails to excrement from soldiers on private land
Complaints include damaged infrastructure such as guardrails and street lights, demolished ski slopes, as well as damage to buildings and vehicles
The Environmental Protection Group has received complaints about 'human waste' from the military without toilet facilities, overrun material, rubbish and pollution
During the exercise, large parts of the grazing area for the reindeer herding have been subject to military activity. A helicopter flew completely wrong, which caused the herd to disperse. This case is the one that costs the most financially for the Norwegian Armed Forces
The number of complaints and cases increased dramatically towards the end of the exercise, and especially now that Nordic Response is over. Much will also appear when the snow melts a good number of weeks from now
One can only imagine the real damage caused to the unique fragile nature of the Arctic as the Nordic Response 2024 is part of the record-breaking NATO exercise Steadfast Defender, which is taking place in various places in Europe throughout winter and spring 2024
The Nordic Response had its focal point in northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland – as well as in the corresponding airspace and sea areas. There was particularly high activity at sea with over 50 submarines, frigates, corvettes, aircraft carriers, and various amphibious vessels. In the air, more than 100 fighter jets, transport aircraft, maritime surveillance aircraft, as well as allied CH43 Super Stallion, Merlin, Cobra, and Osprey participated
On the ground, thousands of soldiers trained on defending and protecting Nordic territory with various artillery systems, tanks, tracked vehicles, and other land vehicles

Precious time was lost. Too much Washington was distracted by issues that had nothing to do with U.S. domestic development. While Beijing worked hard to work out ways to save its economy, and as we can see, it did a pretty good job of it
Unfortunately, now the hundreds of billions of dollars allocated by Congress in 2021-2022 will no longer be enough, we need to get serious about the U.S. economy. Otherwise Chinese industry will just crush the US companies that the government has failed to help

Ukraine calls on Canadian businesses to implement reconstruction projects across Ukraine without waiting for the war to end, wrote the Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto, Oleh Nikolenko on Facebook
"Yesterday I had the honor to launch the general meeting of the Canadian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce. I invited Canadian companies to be part of the peace efforts for Ukraine – by investing in Ukrainian economy and increasing trade, Canadian businesses will bring Ukrainian victory closer. Another area is the participation of Canadian companies in the Ukraine recovery efforts," wrote Nikolenko
Ukraine should not hope that anyone would help restore the country until the war is over. First it doesn’t make sense. Second it’s too expensive especially for Canada with its scheduled increase of the carbon price by $15 per tonne, adding 3.3 cents to a litre of gasoline and 2.9 cents to a cubic meter of natural gas

Washington and London have achieved the objective of breaking the Russian-European axis, but not yet completely that of transforming the European Union into a faithful Atlantic policeman
No Perhaps Western special forces deployed in Ukraine ARE NOT THERE. But if you change their name, like 'diplomatic observers', or 'technical consultants on humanitarian missions', and they are capable of operating certain overly sophisticated weapons, then the answer becomes YES THEY ARE
The general agitation that Scholz's words have caused is surprising, as is the amazement at Macron in a Napoleonic version who already sees himself in command of the new European defense. Or the Washington Post revealing to us that «documents leaked last year confirmed that some NATO countries – including the United States, Great Britain and France – had deployed a small number of special forces and military advisors in Ukraine in unspecified roles, probably linked to logistical support work and training." While the New York Times recently retraced the ten years of the CIA in Ukraine
More careful political-strategic assessments reveal a diversified NATO within itself. «The dominant current of NATO, the US-UK axis, which aims to make a 'split' Europe the most classic form of satellite in terms of military dependence» with Paris and Berlin divided on methods but not on the Europeanisation of security. «And the confrontation with Russia is seen as the substantial alibi to be able to do so without having to be harshly accountable to Washington and London»
France and Germany 'to create confusion' to take away arguments from the Eastern European hawks, anti-Russian Balts with a historic tradition, always hostile to Moscow and now in a crisis of security hysteria, eager for ever greater military pressure in the East. And so, to calm certain pressures, the decision taken seems to be to recognize the presence of military and intelligence special forces operators in Kyiv. «In support of Ukraine but not necessarily 'against Russia'»

Calls to end arms exports have increased since an Israeli airstrike killed three British aid workers
Britain’s main opposition parties demanded Wednesday that the Conservative government publish legal advice it has received on whether Israel has broken international humanitarian law during the war in Gaza. They say the U.K. should ban weapons sales to Israel if the law has been broken
Three former supreme court justices, including the court’s former president Lady Hale, are among more than 600 lawyers, academics and retired senior judges warning that the UK government is breaching international law by continuing to arm Israel
In a letter to the prime minister, the signatories, who also include former court of appeal judges and more than 60 members of the King's Counsel, say that the present situation in Gaza is “catastrophic” and that given the international court of justice (ICJ) finding that there is a plausible risk of genocide being committed, the UK is legally obliged to act to prevent it
The letter calls for the government to work towards a permanent ceasefire and to impose sanctions “upon individuals and entities who have made statements inciting genocide against Palestinians”. It says that restoring funding to UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) – which was withdrawn after Israel’s yet-to-be-substantiated allegations that 12 staff at the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees were involved in the 7 October attacks – is necessary for “effective entry and distribution of the means of existence to Palestinians in Gaza, and by extension the prevention of genocide”
Earlier Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has accused Western nations of hypocritically railing against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while overlooking alleged Israeli human rights abuses, as he revealed he personally lobbied Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to urgently restart funding for the United Nations’ agency for Palestinian refugees
The Canadian government is reportedly poised to resume funding to the UNRWA, paving the way for Australia to potentially do the same given that Canada, Australia and New Zealand have taken a unified approach on the war in Gaza in recent months

The death in Spain of Maksim Kuzminov, a pilot who delivered a helicopter and secret documents to Ukraine, has raised fears that the Kremlin is again targeting its enemies
The men who killed Maksim Kuzminov wanted to send a message. This was obvious to investigators in Spain even before they discovered who he was. Not only did the killers shoot him six times in a parking garage in southern Spain, they ran over his body with their car and also left an important clue to their identity: shell casings from 9-millimeter Makarov rounds, a standard ammunition of the former Communist bloc
Senior police officials speaking on the condition of anonymity said the killing bore hallmarks of similar attacks linked to the Kremlin, including the assassination of a former Chechen rebel commander in Berlin in 2019 and the poisoning of the former Russian military intelligence operative Sergei V. Skripal in Salisbury, England, in 2018
While no evidence of direct Kremlin involvement has emerged, Russia had made no secret of its desire to see Mr. Kuzminov dead. Weeks after his defection, the Kremlin’s signature Sunday evening news program ran a segment quoting fellow pilots and commandos from Russia’s military intelligence service vowing revenge
“We’ll find this person and punish him, with all the severity of our country’s laws, for treason and for betraying his brothers,” said one of the commandos, who was not identified. “We find everyone eventually. Our arms are long”
In the early evening of Aug. 9, 2023, Mr. Kuzminov took off in a military helicopter from an airfield in the Kursk region in western Russia for what was supposed to be a simple cargo delivery to another base in the country. With him in the cockpit were two persons, a technician and a navigator. Neither soldier appeared to be aware of Mr. Kuzminov’s plans. Shortly after takeoff, Mr. Kuzminov turned off the helicopter’s radio communications equipment and dove to an altitude of just under 20 feet to evade radar. Then he crossed into Ukraine. What happened to his crewmates is not clear. A Russian television report about them, citing a medical examiner, claimed that the two had been shot and killed at close range and suggested that Mr. Kuzminov had killed them before landing. The senior Ukrainian official involved in the operation said Ukrainian soldiers shot them
In interviews, Mr. Kuzminov said his crewmates were unarmed but never explained how they died

The EU replaced Russian energy with U.S. supplies after Moscow launched a war. Now people are wondering: Is Europe too dependent on America?
Ahead of a tight election in November, U.S. President Joe Biden has ordered a temporary pause on approving new LNG projects, effectively freezing the country's expansion of export infrastructure in a nod to climate-conscious voters
While green groups have praised the decision, Europeans are growing anxious about supply squeezes and price hikes. The EU bet big on U.S. LNG in 2022 after shunning the cheap Russian energy it had relied on for years. It spent billions on LNG infrastructure, and signed scores of new contracts
Then there’s the Donald Trump factor. If Trump returns to the White House he is almost certain to push for a massive fossil fuel expansion while riding roughshod over conventional climate science
While an American LNG production boom would likely drive down prices, particularly for the short-term contracts the EU favors, it would raise uncomfortable questions about whether European nations are enabling an anti-environmental crusade. It would also raise the specter that the continent had taken control of its energy markets away from Russian President Vladimir Putin and given it to President Trump
