[It’s in Your Best Broader Interest to be Sincere, Even When it’s Against Your Immediate Narrow Interests]

Umar (رضي الله عنه) said:

"Whoever purifies his intention, even if it is against himself, Allah will suffice him against what is between him and the people.

And whoever beautifies himself for the people with what Allah knows is not in his heart, Allah will disgrace him.

For indeed Allah only accepts from His servant what is purely for Him."

[Remembering Death Provides Proper Perspective for Every Situation]

'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz (رحمه الله) said:

"Remember death often, for if you remember it while you are in a state of comfortable living, it will narrow it upon you.

And if you remember it while you are in a state of hardship, it will expand it (i.e., make it easier) for you."

[SOME OF THE GREATEST HEROES DIE UNKNOWN TO MOST PEOPLE]

Many people dedicate their lives to the religion, unknown to anyone, but Allah knows them. The important thing is that Allah knows them; it is not necessary for them to be famous or to be pointed out.

Jubayr b. Hayyah reported that in the aftermath of the great battle of Nahawand:

`Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was in Madinah, praying to Allah and waiting with the anxiety of a pregnant woman in labor (in great anticipation and worry). Hudhayfah wrote to `Umar about the victory, sending the letter with a Muslim man (he wrote a message informing `Umar of the Muslims' victory and sent it with one of them).

When the man arrived, he said: "Rejoice, O Commander of the Faithful, for Allah has granted a victory in which He honored Islam and its people and humiliated disbelief and its people."

`Umar asked, "Did al-Nu`man send you?" He replied, "Seek reward (in grieving) for al-Nu`man, O Commander of the Faithful" (meaning al-Nu`man died in battle). `Umar wept and said, "To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return."

• He then asked, "Who else, woe to you?" (Who else was killed in Allah’s path). The man listed several names.

Then he said, "And others, O Commander of the Faithful, whom you do not know." `Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, while weeping, said,

"It does not matter if `Umar does not know them; Allah knows them."

This was narrated with an authentic chain of transmission in Sahih Ibn Hibban and by al-Ṭabari in his Tārīkh. (Graded Sahih by Al Albanī)

The Sahāba, by and large, did not care in the slightest about having notoriety and status. It's remarkable that even though over one hundred thousand companions performed Hajj with the Prophet (ﷺ), and despite Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani's incredible memory, extensive knowledge, and research skills, he could only document a little over eight thousand companions in his book "Al-Isabah." So, what happened to the rest? Unknown to us; Allah knows them all.

Even more remarkable is the fact that there were over three hundred messengers and more than one hundred thousand prophets sent, yet the Quran has recorded only the names of twenty-five of them. If fame were a virtue that noble souls should crave, Allah would have granted it to the most honored leaders of humanity.

💎 The Sign of a Sincere Person

Imam Al-Dhahabi said:

I said: The sign of a sincere person who may love fame without realizing it is that if he is criticized for it, he does not get angry or defend himself.

Rather, he acknowledges it and says: "May Allah have mercy on the one who shows me my faults."

Let him not be amazed with himself, unaware of his flaws, much less unaware that he is unaware, which is a chronic disease.”

The great scholar Abu Isḥāq Al-Shatibi (d. 790 AH رحمه الله) said:

“In summary, upon investigation:

The most perilous thing that a seeker of the path encounters is the lack of a guide, along with a mind dimmed by the absence of the light of discernment and a heart weakened by the shocks of confused thoughts; thus, he walks without being upon a path and belongs to no traveling party.”

[Tell Your Brother You Love Him]

Narrated from Al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib, from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), who said:

"If a man loves his brother, let him tell him that he loves him." [Sahih Abi Dawud 5124]

And narrated from Abu Dharr, from the Prophet (peace be upon him) similarly.

Al Baghawi (d. 516 AH رحمه الله) said in Sharh Al-Sunnah:

“The meaning of informing is to encourage affection and harmony, because if he informs him, he wins his heart and gains his affection.

It implies that if he knows that he is loved by him, he will accept his advice on what guides him towards righteousness and will not reject his words on what he invites him to in matters of rectitude hidden from him.”

💎 [Don’t Allow Rivalry & Discord to Malign the Image of Our Da’wah]

The esteemed scholar ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Abd al-Raḥīm al Bukhārī (
حفظه الله) said:

“O brothers, let us not allow the actions of some of our brothers to tarnish this pure and pristine methodology, this blessed and Sunnah-based Salafi dawah, which is free from hatred, grudges, and turmoil.

This is the call of the Prophet Preserve it, protect it, and fear Allah, the Most High, in regards to it. Do not distort it or cause people to detest it and its adherents.

Fear Allah, O people of goodness, in this dawah. Let us not become instruments of destruction that undermine this dawah! Respect this dawah and fulfill its rights.

Fear Allah in regards to its scholars, its learned ones, and its students of knowledge.

What is this rivalry and discord, as if, to many people now, being Salafi means rivalry, discord, and mutual abuse?

This is how it has become for many of the common people and the ignorant ones, distorting this pure and merciful dawah in the minds of many. And who is to blame? Some foolish individuals and some insignificant people who claim to be part of it, isn't that correct?

Glory be to Allah, the Most High. You hear astonishing things and read astonishing things. Is this part of the religion of Allah? I swear by the Lord of the heavens, by Allah, and by Allah, this severe oath requires no expiation. This is not from the Shariah of Allah, nor from the guidance of the Messenger of Allah, nor from the Salafi dawah in any way. Even if you disguise it in a thousand cloaks, it cannot be from the religion of Allah.

Fear Allah in regards to yourselves, O brothers. Fear Allah in this dawah and respect it.

Where is the gentleness? Where is the kindness? Where is the mercy? Where is the compassion? Where is the spreading of love and affection among brothers towards one another? Where is the demonstration of the purity and clarity of this dawah? Where is the demonstration of its purity and clarity to the people?

Does clarity and purity mean destroying others to make it clear?

Does purity and clarity mean killing my brother who shares my creed and methodology and criticizing him morning and evening to claim that I am clear and pure?

Who said this? Who said this? Only an infiltrator foreign to the dawah, not from it, would say this, someone who does not know it and has never smelled its fragrance.

💎 [An essential cause of unity is disregarding & ignoring provocation and instigation]

Al-Hasan al Basri (رحمه الله) said,

"A noble person never insists on exacting his full rights."

Amr ibn Uthman al-Makki ( رحمه الله) said,

"True nobility is overlooking the faults of friends."

Al-Awza'i ( رحمه الله) said,

"Well-being consists of ten parts; nine of them are in overlooking faults."

This is similarly reported from Imam Uthman ibn Zaidah, eliciting Imam Ahmad to respond,

"Well-being consists of ten parts, all of them in overlooking faults."

Sufyan al-Thawri ( رحمه الله) said,

"Overlooking faults has always been the practice of the noble."

Al-A’mash ( رحمه الله) said,

"Overlooking faults extinguishes much evil."

Al-Shafi’i ( رحمه الله) said,

"The intelligent and wise person is the one who pretends not to notice."

The poet said:

"The fool is not the leader of his people, but the leader of his people is the one who pretends to be a fool."

Aktham ibn Saifi ( رحمه الله) said:

"Whoever is strict repels others, and whoever is lenient wins their affection. Nobility lies in overlooking faults."

He also said,

"Generosity is good perception, and meanness is poor perception of what should be overlooked."

Salahuddin al-Ṣafadī said in his Lāmiyah poem:

Embrace wise-restraint in all matters,
And never hastily lash out at anyone.

If you are afflicted with a person who lacks goodness,
Act as if you did not hear him and he did not speak.

Ibn al-Azraq said about kingly manners in "Bada'i' al-Silk fi Taba'i' al-Mulk":

"Generosity and nobility include refraining from seeking revenge, abstaining from probing into hidden matters, refraining from mentioning faults, and part of perfect virtues is forgiving reproach, honoring the noble, showing a cheerful countenance, reciprocating greetings, and overlooking the mistakes of the ignorant. Strictness repels people, and leniency wins their affection."

💎[Don’t Dwell on Abusive Speech; Rise Above it With Dignity]

The eminent scholar ‘Abd al-Rahman Al-Saadi (d. 1376 AH رحمه الله) said in "Al-Wasa'il Al-Mufida":

"Among the beneficial matters is knowing that the harm people inflict upon you, especially through bad words, does not harm you but harms them, unless you preoccupy yourself with paying attention to it and allow it to dominate your feelings. In that case, it harms you as it harms them. If you do not pay attention to it, it will not harm you at all."

“Seasons of goodness, such as the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, are not only opportunities for righteous deeds; they are also moments to remind oneself of forgiveness and to dispel the Shaytan's schemes from our hearts.

For hearts are prepared for this during these seasons, so do not let the devil overcome you in the matter of forgiveness.

Forgive,
Overlook,
Forget disputes,
Eliminate the estrangement caused by the Shaytan,
And seek the reward from Allah, the Oft-Pardoning, the Most Generous.

💎[The Best Du’ā on the Day of ‘Arafat & Every Other Day]1️⃣

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the best thing I and the Prophets before me have said is: 'None deserve worship but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent'" (Hasan, reported by Al-Tirmidhi).

In another narration:

"The most virtuous supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the most virtuous thing I and the Prophets before me have said is: 'None deserve worship but Allah alone, without partner'" (Hasan, reported by Malik in Al-Muwatta).

Abdullah ibn Amr (رضي الله عنهما) reported:

The most frequent supplication of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the Day of Arafah was: "None deserve worship but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, in His hand is all good, and He is over all things competent" (Hasan, reported by Ahmad).

🔘 Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

ﻓﺠﻤﻊ ﻓﻲ ﻫﺬا اﻟﺤﺪﻳﺚ ﺑﻴﻦ " ﺃﻓﻀﻞ اﻟﺪﻋﺎء ﻭﺃﻓﻀﻞ اﻟﺜﻨﺎء ﻓﺈﻥ اﻟﺬﻛﺮ ﻧﻮﻋﺎﻥ: ﺩﻋﺎء ﻭﺛﻨﺎء ﻓﻘﺎﻝ: ﺃﻓﻀﻞ اﻟﺪﻋﺎء ﺩﻋﺎء ﻳﻮﻡ ﻋﺮﻓﺔ. ﻭﺃﻓﻀﻞ ﻣﺎ ﻗﻠﺖ ﻫﺬا اﻟﻜﻼﻡ ". ﻭﻟﻢ ﻳﻘﻞ ﺃﻓﻀﻞ ﻣﺎ ﻗﻠﺖ ﻳﻮﻡ ﻋﺮﻓﺔ ﻫﺬا اﻟﻜﻼﻡ. ﻭﺇﻧﻤﺎ ﻫﻮ ﺃﻓﻀﻞ ﻣﺎ ﻗﻠﺖ ﻣﻄﻠﻘﺎ

“This hadith combines the best supplication and the best praise. Remembrance is of two types: supplication and praise. He said: "The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the best thing I have said is this phrase." He did not say the best thing I have said on the Day of Arafah is this phrase. Rather, it is the best thing I have said in general.”

🔘 Al-Khattabi commented (in Sha’n Al-Du’a):

“Its meaning is that the best way to begin supplication is by praising Allah - Mighty and Sublime - and presenting it before one's request.

Thus, praise is called supplication because it precedes and leads to it, in line with the view that things are named after their causes.”

🔘 Al-Tibi (رحمه الله) commented on the phrase "in His hand is all good" by saying:

“This means the things they seek of goodness are in His hand, and He is capable of everything. He is self-sufficient in His essence, and He has absolute perfection in His essence, attributes, and actions. His dominion is complete and great. “

Therefore, this remembrance is the most blessed and beneficial supplication, the greatest in reward, and the closest to being answered because it is made by the best of people, the Prophets, on the best day of the year, the Day of Arafah.

💎[The Best Du’ā on the Day of ‘Arafat & Every Other Day]2️⃣

The Prophet (ﷺ) said about the Day of Arafah

There is no day on which Allah frees more servants from the Fire than the Day of Arafah. He draws near and then boasts about them to the angels, saying: 'What do these want?'" (Muslim).

It is recommended to frequently engage in this remembrance and supplication on the Day of Arafah for both pilgrims and non-pilgrims.

🔘 Ibn Abd al-Barr (رحمه الله) said (in Al-Tamhīd):

“The supplication of the Day of Arafah is better than any other supplication, indicating the virtue of the Day of Arafah over other days. It also indicates that some days have virtues over others...

The hadith also shows that the supplication of the Day of Arafah is mostly answered, and the best remembrance is: 'There is no deity but Allah.'

🔘 Imam al-Nawawi (رحمه الله) said:

“It is recommended to frequently engage in this remembrance and supplication and to strive hard in it. This day is the best day of the year for supplication. It is the main part of Hajj and its most important objective.

Therefore, one should devote all their effort to remembrance, supplication, and recitation of the Quran, and pray for themselves, their parents, relatives, teachers, companions, friends, benefactors, and all Muslims.”

[The Combination of Al Mulk (Dominion) and Al Hamd (Praiseworthiness)]

Ibn al Qayyim (رحمه الله) said (in Shifā al ‘Alīl):

Know that the perfection of His sovereignty is coupled with His praise, for to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise…

The point is that the universality of His dominion necessitates the affirmation of power and that nothing exists in His dominion without His will. Allah is greater and more exalted than that.

The universality of His praise necessitates that there is nothing in His creation or command that lacks wisdom or a praiseworthy end for which it is done or commanded. Allah is greater and more exalted than that."

💎[The Best Du’ā on the Day of ‘Arafat & Every Other Day]3️⃣

This form of dhikr can be said daily and has a tremendous reward. It is narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"Whoever says 'None deserve worship but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent' one hundred times in a day, it will be equivalent to freeing ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be written for him, a hundred bad deeds will be erased, and it will be a protection for him from Satan that day until evening.

No one will have done anything better except one who does more than that" (Bukhari, Muslim).

[Takbeer Muqayyad during the Days of Tashreeq]

‏﷽

Takbeer Muqayyad (restricted takbeer)

This refers to reciting takbeer after the obligatory prayers.

This practice is unanimously agreed upon by the scholars.

Imam Nawawi stated in Al-Majmoo' (5/32):
"As for the restricted takbeer, it is legislated during Eid al-Adha without any disagreement due to the consensus of the Ummah."

Imam Nawawi also mentioned in Al-Majmoo' (5/31):
"It is a Sunnah to recite takbeer after the obligatory prayers during these days based on the transmission from the predecessors."

Among those who reported this consensus is Shaykh al-Islam in Al-Majmoo' (24/222) and Ibn Rajab in Fath al-Bari (6/123, 124).

Ibn Rajab stated in Fath al-Bari (6/124):
"Imam Ahmad narrated this as a consensus among the Companions, citing it from Umar, Ali, Ibn Mas’ud, and Ibn Abbas."

Imam Nawawi also said in Al-Majmoo' (5/35):
"As for the practice of Umar, Ali, Ibn Mas’ud, and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, it is authentically reported that they recited takbeer from the Fajr of Arafah until the Asr of the last day of Tashreeq."

I say: As for the report from the Leader of the Believers Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, it was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (5681), Al-Hakim (1/299), and Al-Bayhaqi (3/314).

As for the report from the Leader of the Believers Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, it was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (5677), Al-Hakim (1/299), and Al-Bayhaqi (3/314).

As for the report from Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, it was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (5679, 5680), Al-Hakim (1/300), and Al-Bayhaqi (3/314).

As for the report from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, it was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (5692), Al-Hakim (1/299), and Al-Bayhaqi (3/314).

I say: The disagreement is regarding the timing of the restricted takbeer after the prayers for those who are not in the state of ihram. When does it begin and when does it end?

There are four opinions among the scholars, the most correct being that it begins after the Fajr prayer on the Day of Arafah and continues until the Asr prayer on the last day of Tashreeq, based on the apparent reports from the Companions, and this is the view of the Hanbalis.

And Allah knows best.
