Shaikh Abdul ilah ar-Rafai - The People of his Land Know Better

[A Clear Hadith Showing When the Last Ten Nights Begin (ie., the 21st Night)]

It is narrated by al-Bukhari (813) and Muslim (1167) on the authority of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, who said:

"اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشْرَ الأُوَلِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَاعْتَكَفْنَا مَعَهُ،

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed i‘tikaf (seclusion for worship) during the first ten of Ramadan, and we observed i‘tikaf with him.

فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الَّذِي تَطْلُبُ أَمَامَكَ، فَاعْتَكَفَ العَشْرَ الأَوْسَطَ، فَاعْتَكَفْنَا مَعَهُ

Then Jibril came to him and said: ‘What you are seeking is ahead of you.’ So he observed i‘tikaf during the middle ten, and we observed i‘tikaf with him.

فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الَّذِي تَطْلُبُ أَمَامَكَ، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطِيبًا صَبِيحَةَ عِشْرِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ:

Then Jibril came to him and said: ‘What you are seeking is ahead of you.’ On the morning of the twentieth of Ramadan, the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up to deliver a sermon and said:

مَنْ كَانَ اعْتَكَفَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلْيَرْجِعْ، فَإِنِّي أُرِيتُ لَيْلَةَ القَدْرِ، وَإِنِّي نُسِّيتُهَا، وَإِنَّهَا فِي العَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فِي وِتْرٍ، وَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّي أَسْجُدُ فِي طِينٍ وَمَاءٍ وَكَانَ سَقْفُ المَسْجِدِ جَرِيدَ النَّخْلِ، وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ شَيْئًا،

‘Whoever has observed i‘tikaf with the Prophet (ﷺ), let him return, for I have been shown the Night of Decree, but I have been made to forget it. It is in the last ten nights, on an odd night. I saw myself (in a dream) prostrating in mud and water.’ The roof of the mosque was made of palm leaves, and we saw nothing in the sky.

فَجَاءَتْ قَزَعَةٌ، فَأُمْطِرْنَا، فَصَلَّى بِنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ أَثَرَ الطِّينِ وَالمَاءِ عَلَى جَبْهَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَرْنَبَتِهِ تَصْدِيقَ رُؤْيَاهُ ".

Then a cloud came and it rained. The Prophet (ﷺ) led us in prayer until I saw the traces of mud and water on the forehead and the tip of the nose of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), confirming his dream.”

Tonight is the eve of Jumu’ah,
It is a cold night,
Its atmosphere is pleasant and rainy,
So it is likely to be the Night of Decree.

Strive in supplication,
Especially with what the Prophet ﷺ guided our mother ‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to say:

“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”

For whoever is pardoned and granted well-being by Allah has indeed been given all good.

قرأت في بعض المصادر والله أعلم بصحتها لكن هذه المعلومة ذكرتني بأمور مهمة نحتاجها في حياتنا، فيقال: بأن حيوان القنفذ المعروف بشوكه الكثير على جسمه عند شعوره بالبرد، فأنه يبحث عن إخوانه وأقاربه الذين هم من نفس فصيلته ويلتصق بهم ليستطيعوا تدفئة بعضهم البعض. لكن الشوك يمنع من عملية تقاربه من أبناء جنسه مما يجعل العملية صعبة ومؤلمة. فكلما اقتربوا من بعض، فإن الشوك يجرح كل منهم الآخر. وإذا ابتعدوا عن بعضهم فإنهم يشعرون بالبرد مرة أخرى فيعزموا على التقارب مرة أخرى وكلما اقتربوا وتلاصقوا توجعوا من أشواك بعضهم البعض فيرجعوا للتباعد وهكذا تمضي حياتهم.
فقلت: إن هذا الحال أذكرني بعلاقات بعض الأقارب ببعضهم البعض، فأقول لا تكونوا كهذا القنفذ وتخلوا عن أشواك بعضكم كي تنعموا بدفء العائلة الواحدة، جمع الله شمل كل شتات والله المستعان.

[Don’t Be Like the Hedgehog with Your Brothers & Relatives]

I read in some sources—though Allah knows best their authenticity—but this piece of information reminded me of important matters that we need in our lives. It is said that the hedgehog, known for the many spines on its body when it feels cold, seeks out its brothers and relatives from the same species and clings to them to keep one another warm. However, the spines hinder their ability to draw near each other, making the process difficult and painful.

Every time they come close, their spines wound one another. And when they separate, they feel the cold again, so they resolve to draw close again. Yet every time they come near and cling to one another, they are hurt by each other’s spines, so they pull apart again—and thus, their lives go on.

So I said: This condition reminded me of the relationships between some relatives. I say to you: Do not be like this hedgehog. Abandon the spines of resentment and harm among yourselves to enjoy the warmth of a united family. May Allah reunite every scattered group. And Allah is the one whose help is sought.
